24.01.2022 Another perfect day for a Pinot Noir. It's vitally important to serve different wines at the correct temperature. For example a Pinot Noir is best served around 14c. 24.01.2022 Today we take a deeper look at one of our favourite wineries in the Great Southern Region. Gilberts Winery in Mount Barker are fourth generation farmers who love the land! Now turned vignerons, their vines, draw from the rich soils of Mt Barker in the Great Southern region of Western Australia and exhibit the terroir of this exceptional region. Being family run it was the third generation of Gilberts who took the leap into establishing a vineyard with Jim and Bev Gilbert plan...ting the first of our vines in 1985. Subsequent plantings were also made in 1987, 1989, 1994 and 1997 leaving us with 24 acres of vineyard producing fantastic Riesling, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2003, Jim and Bev Gilbert extended onto the cellar door a wine café. Once again ahead of the times, Jim and Bev noticed a unique opportunity in the area, creating one of the first cellar doors to have a café attached in the region. The café is open Friday to Monday 10am to 5pm for you to enjoy the best local produce and food our region has to offer whilst also enjoying a glass or bottle of our award winning wines. In 2014, the fourth generation of Gilberts returned to the family business with two of Jim and Bev's three sons (Clinton and Matthew) stepping into the family business. With big shoes to fill both Matthew and Clinton have set about putting their own footprint on the business. Matthew is our current viticulturist and Clinton head of sales and marketing for our wines. In February 2017, tragically we lost founder Jim Gilbert to the terrible Motor Neuron Disease aged 62. Jim played a huge role in helping us grow to where we are today. The work done in the early years to establish a world class vineyard and award winning wines can never be understated. We pay tribute to Jim with the JMG range of wines released in 2018. The 'JMG' being his initials. If you look closely at the label you will see all of Jim's interests in the background. Jim loved life and living for the moment! Picardy Picardy is one of Australia's leading premium boutique wine producers, established in 1993 in the Pemberton region of Western Australia. Picardy is owned and operated by Bill, Sandra, and Dan Pannell. Bill and Sandra were pioneers of the Margaret River region, establishing Moss Wood vineyard and winery in 1969. Moss Wood went on to be a driving force in establishing Margaret River as one of Australia's im...portant growing regions. Picardy strives to continue this tradition of wine making quality and excellence. Dan has grown up in the wine industry and completed a Bachelors of Science (Oenology) at The University Of Adelaide. Picardy produces Sauvignon Blanc Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Shiraz and Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc wines. All wines bearing the Picardy label are entirely from our single vineyard property in Pemberton. Picardy is situated in the tranquil region of Pemberton on deep gravelly loamy soils. The region offers high altitude and close proximity to the ocean (for cooling summer breezes), thereby providing ideal conditions for cool climate wine production. 11.01.2022 Winery of the week features Woody Nook from Margaret River. Woody Nook is a James Halliday 5 Star rated Winery. It has 17 hectares of vines, half of which in the original vineyard are non-irrigated and handpicked and include Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon and Cabernet Franc. From a 4-5,000 case production for the past ten years, this figure had almost doubled by 2012. However, with a 75-100 tonne crush, Woody Nook will ...still be well within the definition (250 tonnes) of a genuine boutique winery. 05.01.2022 The mighty Myattsfield Vineyards Merlot is back in stock. We have had wonderful feedback about this great drop. Everyone who tries it loves it! Lots of plush plum, mulberry, red & black cherry and the tannin profile is soft and velvety. It's beautiful dark colour is accompanied with a medium to full body and with it's vibrant fruit it's a pleasure to have a glass year round.... Our serving suggestion: Being a Merlot make sure it's served on the cooler side. Pop this in the fridge for about 30 mins prior to cracking it open. 03.01.2022 This week we are showcasing wineries from the Pemberton & Manjimup area. Pemberton is Karri Forrest country, and the rich soil is loved by Vineyards and Avocado’s galore! Its cool and wet in Pemberton for about 6 months, receiving far more rainfall than most other wine regions in WA. The area can receive over 1.2 meters of rain per year. It is not uncommon in summer for Perth to be Sunny and 33c, while Pemberton is partly cloudy with cool ocean breezes from the South East and... only 24c. This lush soil combined with cool weather helps Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc & Chardonnay thrive here, and keep an eye out for a lovely floral Cabernet Franc as well. Manjimup has a warmer climate and less fertile soil compared with Pemberton. The Warren River runs through the middle to split up the two regions. The area is reasonably young in plantings, dating back to the late 80’s. The wines produced in this area are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and a few Cabernet Franc’s.
