23.01.2022 A message from our October Thinker in Residence: *content note* mention of suicide. "Dear humans,... It's October!? How did that happen already? I guess 2020 has been unlike anything most of us have ever seen before. There have been so many unprecedented events, unprecedented restrictions, unprecedented records, unprecedented challenges. And to be honest I'm kind of sick of the word unprecedented... Anyway, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself at this months Thinker in Residence at Part of Things. So, Hi, I'm Kimberlee, mid 30's, single mumma to two awesome kids (who both happen to have additional challenges in life but who are completely awesome) I work part time as a Mortician and Assistant Funeral Director in Loxton and love my job! In the past I have worked in Disability, Aged Care (residential, community and coordination of home services) Admin, Commercial cooking and Checkout. I describe myself as a humanist (noun. a person having a strong interest in or concern for human welfare, values, and dignity. a person devoted to or versed in the humanities) And I have a long history of mental health challenges... which leads me to my purpose here at PoT, working on a book I started almost 20 years ago after my first suicide attempt..." Stay tuned for more from Kimberlee across October. #bepartofthings #thinkerinresidence #mentalhealthawareness

17.01.2022 Congratulations to Part of Things Chief Storyteller Alysha Herrmann for completing Business SA’s SAYES program earlier this year.
16.01.2022 For previous attendees of our Dear Democracy* gatherings, this looks super interesting. We're planning to tune in. <3 *Dear Democracy is a little series of gathering we started running at Part of Things last year. We live in a complicated and messy world. The news is hitting us all the time with new disasters and things to be worried about. How many of us feel like we should be doing *something* (anything) in response? Dear Democracy is a self-organised space encouraging peop...le to take the time for one small action on an issue they care about. Come along and write a letter to our local politician, or write a petition and a plan to share it, or spend some time reading up on more detail about an issue you don’t fully understand. Dear Democracy is for people who want to be more active citizens and need somewhere to start. We've had a little break this year with COVID at its peak and giving everyone space to breathe but we intend to reinvigorate our Dear Democracy gatherings ready for 2021. See more

14.01.2022 Reminder to join us this Saturday morning for some scheming and dreaming about projection art projects in the Riverland. Tell your friends. Very keen to see anyone who contributed to #lettersoftheriverland plus any new folk. No experience necessary.
14.01.2022 [WRITERS CALL OUT] Part of Fringe! We want to create some little somethings by and for Riverlanders next year and we're starting with some experiences as part of the Adelaide Fringe. If you are a Riverlander writer, read on because this one is for you:... The Brief The little things are the big things: a hand on your shoulder, picking up rubbish, a text message at the right time. We’ve all been witness to small moments that are easily forgotten but cumulatively are the true ingredients all our lives are made from. Those little moments that harm, heal and shape us. What happens when we look a little closer at the little things? For Part of Fringe we are asking Riverland writers to create a 5-10minute piece reflecting on or interrogating or discovering or cherishing a little thing. We highly encourage broad interpretations of the brief. All pieces will be presented together as a series of collected, simply staged intimate performances for small audiences at Part of Things, Hawdon Chambers Barmera as part of the Adelaide Fringe 19th February to 21st March 2021. Info for Writers Participating writers will have three weeks to write a 5-10minute* monologue/story/something in response to the brief, and designed to be spoken/performed by a solo performer. Writers are welcome to develop linked ideas together or to keep their stories entirely separate. Final scripts are due Monday 26th October 2020. There will be non-compulsory write-ins at Part of Things Monday 6-7:30pm 12th October and 19th October 2020 for anyone who would like to throw around ideas together and write side by side. There is no fee for anyone involved in this project, including the coordinators/Part of Things. The final presentation/performances will be ticketed but as they are limited to 10-15 audience members any income from ticket sales will be purely for materials/equipment/marketing to present the outcome. Please register as a participating writer by emailing [email protected] before Monday 5th October 2020. We will email all participating writers confirmation and some further information on or before Tuesday 6th October. *we recommend aiming for about 800-1000 words.

10.01.2022 The walls of Bonney Theatre will again come to life this weekend with "Letters of the Riverland", a display of sound and images using Council’s new permanent di...gital projectors. Letters of the Riverland is a project of Part of Things, commissioned by the Berri Barmera Council. With the weather looking great Saturday night, take the opportunity to sit by the Barmera Visitors Centre while the show is on from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, to hear the story being told around the images. Please take care around the area and be aware that speed restrictions will be in place during the showing of the digital project as there will be a higher concentration of pedestrians.
09.01.2022 After a little break, Mixtape Monday is back. Playlist this week curated by Cassie Lee: This is a small compilation of songs that are gathered from different pockets in my life. They are songs that have come up on my long drives, that are on in the background while I’m creating or cooking. Some of these songs are borrowed from friend’s playlists, or have accompanied me while on my walks through the wetlands. In a way, this playlist is an ode to the time that I’ve had here an...d to the place and connections I’m leaving behind. And by that same token, I just threw together a bunch songs that I particularly liked because who doesn’t love a good TUNE. I can’t remember how and when I stumbled across Part of Things but I’m so so grateful it exists for young people in the Riverland. Big thank you to Alysha for being a magnificent force for creativity, collaboration and community. Cassie is heading to Port Pirie for a new job but our community has been lucky to have her (twice) working in the Riverland as a speech pathologist. Cassie has been a regular visitor and supporter of Part of Things and we’re all sending lots of love with her for her new adventures. <3 * * Listen to Cassie’s playlist Drift here or via link in our profile: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4rFlPXZBjf1OFujubgLkIH * * What is Mixtape Monday? We’ve invited creative Riverlanders to curate a playlist for our community on the Part of Things Spotify and we are sharing one each Monday. The curator for the week selects the songs, chooses a title for the playlist and is paid a fee of $60. We’ve left the theme, style and number of songs totally up to each curator. Love what we’re doing and want to make a contribution? We have a tip-jar here: https://ko-fi.com/partofthings #mixtapemondays #creativeriverland #myriverland #bepartofthings Wanna put your hand up to be a curator? Just slide into our messages and say hello!

05.01.2022 It was so hard to keep this a secret for the past couple of weeks! We are super excited to share that Part of Things in collaboration with Barmera Central (Barmera Visitor Centre) has been awarded a Heywire Youth Innovation Grant from FRRR. There were 24 successful applicants, and we are very proud to be 1 of 3 South Australian recipients. ... Our project Riverland Skillin’ It (working title) will be recruiting a squad of young people aged 18-26 to develop digital workshops and a small festival for 2021. 04.01.2022 This week’s Mixtape Monday curated by Rebecca Dawson. Rebecca Dawson is currently a teacher in Berri by day, and a writer by night. She runs the local Berri Writers Group online and in-person. She enjoys storytelling in all its forms. Music has been a constant companion in her life and it provides the seeds for her stories. This playlist is my attempt to pin down the mood of modern life in your twenties, when you're trying to do everything at once and feeling like you're fai...ling at life. (Or maybe that's just me.) Either way, enjoy your existential crisis with this mix. #relatablecontent #existentialcrisisincoming * * Listen to Rebecca’s playlist We All Float On Okay here or via link in our profile: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/31FQOxA3DKX3e6LjXD7uT7 * * What is Mixtape Monday?
