Packed full of tomatoey Tabasco goodness, we paired her perfectly with the sharpest cheddar we could find for a smack of moreish delight. What was once an afternoon experiment has since turned into Kent Street’s most sought after rec...ipe. And that was just in the first week. Sadly, we won’t be giving it away any time soon. 04.01.2022 BLACK LIVES MATTER A heavy week for us all at Part One Espresso. An even heavier week for those risking their lives to fight against prejudice purely for a colour of skin. As humans, we rightfully deserve to exist without fear. It has become obvious that many have forgotten or simply chosen to ignore the systemic racism that still to this day exist in Australia. You only have to look as closely as incarceration rates, suicide rates and health equity rates to see how... monstrously overrepresented First Nations People are in these areas. Since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody handed down its 339 recommendations in 1991, 432 First Nations people have died in custody. Not one single Police Officer has ever been convicted of black death in custody. Australia and the United States share the same racist foundation that allow us to exist and trade today. To take accountability of one’s privilege is simply not good enough. To be non-racist is simply, not enough. To say you are angry or post a black square in solidarity, is not enough. We implore you to do more with your voice; challenge family members on racist standpoints, have the difficult conversations with your friends on their continual use of the N word, dismantle the racism you see casually on a day to day basis. Silence is not the answer, education is. Donations are. At very least, share your resources, amplify black voices. Together, and only together will we dismantle a society built on white privilege.
