23.01.2022 Well-known Aboriginal comedian Kevin Kropinyeri entertained staff and students in the YES Centre today as part of NAIDOC celebrations. As well as comedy, Kevin also delivered a motivational message encouraging students to pursue their dreams. A Ngarrindjeri man, Kevin is a Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow regular.

22.01.2022 We have just taken delivery of 260 new laptops! Please organise your year 8-12 laptop for next year by coming into the school next week in week 10, (14-18 December) to complete the form. Laptops will then be issued at the start of the new school year once the machine imaging is complete.

20.01.2022 Certificate II in Resource and Infrastructure students from the YES Centre have spent the past two weeks at TAFE Port Augusta, completing two units of study. They have learnt how to use hand tools and to cut, weld and bend materials. Students made a barbecue plate as part of their welding unit. Next term they will complete confined spaces and working at heights training, as well as learning to operate a wheel loader.

19.01.2022 The year 12 end of year celebrations began yesterday with a dress up theme of Throwback Thursday for staff and students. There were some great efforts made to recreate some precious memories and also some great era outfits.

19.01.2022 Congratulations Zoe on being awarded the Walpaara Anpa clever one (Arabunna) award. Walpaara Anpa Award recipients are awarded a DELL laptop pack, including licensed software, a backpack, key board and wireless mouse. This award is awarded to Aboriginal year 10 students who demonstrate a commitment to their education through regular attendance & consistent academic achievement, demonstrate leadership qualities and have strong aspirations to complete their schooling and progress into further study or employment.

18.01.2022 As we all know there have been some recent developments in relation to COVID-19 cases in SA. The current information from the Department for Education is that it’s business as usual in schools, however we need to follow all existing guidelines. Our Open Afternoon will allow families to take a self-paced, self-guided tour around the school keeping physically distanced. Signage will indicate the maximum number of people allowed in a space at one time. There will also be hand sanitising stations throughout the school. If the situation changes we will inform families immediately. We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow afternoon.

18.01.2022 Students from music and drama have been presenting transition performances to year seven students from all of the primary schools. It was an enjoyable experience for all and a great celebration of what the students have been working on this semester. Well done to our students!

17.01.2022 We are SUPER EXCITED to announce the ONE COMMUNITY TOGETHER event to take place in NAIDOC Week 2020 on Thursday 12 November 4-8pm at Front Beach. We're working... in partnership with a number of people including the City of Port Augusta and the Department for Education. This will be a FREE event for the whole community. We'll have entertainment, food, activities, the army visiting, a new set of school awards being handed out to young people from 4pm, and a TikTok challenge. It is a COVID safe event, with a COVID Safe Plan in place. We can have up to 1000 people as per SA Government COVID restrictions and measures. We'll have hand sanitizer available for families, spaced out activities, be encouraging social distancing as appropriate, and a large number of COVID Marshalls wearing hi vis vests. #NAIDOCWeek #NAIDOC2020 #portaugusta #ConnectedBeginnings #comingbacktogether #onecommunity

15.01.2022 Huge thank you to Sam and his crew from our local SES. Last night, as a result of the extreme weather conditions, we lost a large branch from one of our trees which fell across the highway. The SES not only cleaned up the obstruction but also came back today and removed the branch leaning on the inside of our fence.

12.01.2022 YES Community Studies B Health students took part in a simulated accident exercise on Thursday as part of one of their subject tasks. Students completed first aid training in September and during the accident simulation task they were assessed on their ability to apply first aid in a real life situation. The simulated accident was a collaborative exercise with students from the YES Community Studies B SFX program, who created the fake injuries using special effects make up.

We encourage those of you wanting to see the artwork to visit the Platform Gallery over the next two weeks.

11.01.2022 Just a reminder that when year 12 students are at school studying in the next few weeks they need to sign in through Student Services. Although formal classes have finished, students are encouraged to continue attending until all work is submitted and their exams are completed.

10.01.2022 YES students and staff completed first aid and CPR training on Wednesday. Most of the students are from the YES Community Studies B Health program. These students undertook the first aid training in preparation for a mock accident scene at which they will be assessed on their skills and performance providing first aid response.

08.01.2022 A group of YES students have been learning Adnyamathanha language in Terms 3 and 4. Aunty Kae McMillan has been taking students for two lessons each week, teaching them basic language and telling them dreaming stories.

03.01.2022 SACE exams are currently happening across South Australia, so here are 5 study tips that might help you or someone you know. : Make a...udio recordings of yourself reading notes so you can listen to them later during walks (because study breaks and fresh air are important!) Use white noise to help block out noise. There are lots of white noise videos on YouTube and plenty of free apps. Bring some colour into your study time to help you remember and associate better. Things like highlighters, sticky notes and crayons. Sing information that just won’t stick. Even better, put the information into a new or existing song. Get rest! Sleep is vital. Share your best study tips below!
