11.01.2022 How to Manage Dental Problems While Staying at Home During the COVID-19 Pandemic. Part 1 - Tooth Pain Many of us are now helping to protect our loved ones and are self-isolating. We have all been asked to only leave our homes to do essential shopping, attend doctors appointments and to exercise. Sadly, many dental practices, including ours, have been forced to close their practice as a result of the restrictions that have been placed on our industry. This potentially leave...s a lot of people having to self-manage their own dental care. To help show that we are here to help in any way we can, Dr Sam is providing his thoughts on how to cope with common dental problems at home. As you can imagine this is quite an extensive list, so we will be sharing this information over a number of different posts. Further information is available on our website. Keep in mind that this advice is just general advice. For personal advice or assistance please contact us via email or Facebook Messenger. Q1. What should I do if my teeth suddenly hurt? Answer ~ First, look at the nature and degree of pain. If you only have sensitivity and there is no obvious spontaneous lingering pain (that is the pain only lasts a few moments and doesnt linger for hours), it could be from a gum problem such as gum recession or the start of a gum infection. You can try to reduce or avoid the causes of sensitivity, depending if its from cold, hot, sweet, sour or chewing teeth. Maintain a high standard of oral hygiene, make sure you continue brushing at least twice a day and flossing at least once a day. Possibly try using a sensitive toothpaste this toothpaste works its best when applied directly to the sensitive areas and just left to do its job, dont rinse it off. If you are having acute significant lingering pain due to infection, pain that wakes you up at night and stops you sleeping, you can take painkillers or antibiotics.
