18.01.2022 The tragic loss of over 80 lives with hundreds of horrific injuries at the recent Grenfell Tower fire in London will haunt us all forever. What shocked so many people was that it was started on the 4th floor by a common, modern domestic fridge freezer. Within 30 minutes a neighbour said the fire was out of control and the whole apartment was on fire! Previously the LONDON FIRE BRIGADE conducted a series of live tests on fridge freezers which demonstrated the rapid fire growth, as can be seen in these next few slides. You basically have around 1 minute and 30 seconds to react.

17.01.2022 More than 40 per cent of house fires in Victoria alone occur in the kitchen. Firefighters attended 3,098 residential fires across the state last year, resulting in 14 fatalities and more than $88 million in property loss. The kitchen continues to be a fire hotspot, with 1,306 incidents in 2016, accounting for 42 per cent of all fires. Of that number, 493 fires were caused by unattended cooking. Other top areas of origin include the bedroom (254), and lounge (209).... Faulty electrical distribution, electrical appliances and central heating also continue to be major causes of residential fires. Install several in different locations around the home to give you the best chance of alarm activation to aid your escape. There are also different technologies of smoke alarms for sale - Photoelectric and ionization (or even dual purpose). So which one should I buy? Photoelectric detects smaller smouldering fires and is designed ...to see the fire before it turns into flames. We recommend, as a minimum, you have photoelectric smoke alarms installed throughout your home as these tend to trigger the alarm a lot quicker than ionization alarms.
