23.01.2022 This is making our heads spin! A Polish football club has 23 players - around half its squad - who share the same surname, Furgaa. Most of them are unrelated to each other, and some share the same first name too. "There are usually five or six Furgaas in any given match," says the club's president. "I could even make up a whole team of 11 Furgaas, but we're playing to win."... Official data show that there are only 839 men in Poland with the surname Furgaa, meaning that 3% of them play for this one club. It is not even in the top 5,000 most common surnames in Poland, though most Fugaas are concentrated in the area around where the club is based in south-east Poland. (credit: Notes From Poland)

13.01.2022 Deportations in the Nazi Era Sources and Research | Online Conference, 2-4 November 2020 On the conference website, you will now find the program, organizational information, and the registration form: https://aroa.to/conference-deportations/ ... During the Nazi era, about three million Jews, half of the victims of the Holocaust, were deported from the German Reich, the occupied territories, and the countries allied with Germany and sent to ghettos, camps, and extermination centers. The police and the SS also deported tens of thousands of Sintize and Sinti, Romnja and Roma, mainly to the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp, where most of them were murdered. Deportations were a central pillar of the National Socialist policy of persecution and extermination.
