25.01.2022 Year 7, 1991, were inspired to write a poem based on their year just past - published in 'The Wind' '91: Ten little school girls jumping up and down One fell from the boat and she did almost drown. Nine little school girls sitting on a wall... One fell on her head as she observed handball. Eight little school girls going to a party One got a tummy ache, she ate one too many smarties. Seven little school girls walking to their school Whoopsa daisy Wendy's in the pool. Six little school girls having a debate Where's Bianca, she just couldn't wait. Five little school girls playing at softball Two crashed into each other. Oh, what a fall. Four little school girls sitting in a bunch Along cam a big dog and stole Bianca's lunch. Three little school girls styling their hair Kristine's hair just wouldn't go and that left just a pair. Two little school girls painting as they ought'a They bumped a big glass and covered themselves in water. One little school girl dancing to Prue's note She tripped over a cord and ripped a petticoat. Thanks for sharing your year with us - Wendy, Bianca, Kristine and Prue!!

25.01.2022 From 1990 - 1995 ’The Wind’ was the name of the annual College magazine. A competition was held to choose the name for the publication, with Ben Pitstock, a Year 8 student in 1991, submitting the winning entry. Mr Alan Brown, Principal, chose this entry because, among other things, it symbolised the Holy Spirit. In 1996 'The Wind' became what we know today - 'The Common Ground'. Inspired by the words of the song Common Ground written by Graham Armstrong, Science Teacher at the College from 1994 - 1998, and uncle to current Senior students at the College, Kate and Tom Armstrong. Can you remember the tune and the words? It is hoped that the song can be shared with the current student cohort, to keep that connection going.

25.01.2022 The Building of A Block was the first building on the Kooringal Road site. Construction began in 1991, with the official opening in 1992 by Lady Susan Martin, wife of the late NSW Governor General, Rear Admiral Sir David Martin. Parents, staff and students were heavily involved in the building of the classroom, library and administration block. Does anyone know who the two students are in the picture below? Disaster also seemed to befell the verandah just a year later when a tree crushed the awning during a storm. Look forward to your stories of this building.

22.01.2022 Arguably the best croissants in Wagga are made by a past student of the College. Jordan Mills is in the second year of his pastry and bakery apprenticeship at the Artisan Baker in Morgan Street and loving it. The role, combining study with work, allows Jordan to express his creativity and he has freedom to explore ideas and learn new skills. Thanks Jordan for developing your talents in the kitchen for the benefit of our local community! 20.01.2022 To help celebrate 30 years there is a poetry competition happening at the College. Thank you to Sharon Winsor, Year 8 in 1991 for this one: Hi there students, come on down We’ve got a school and it’s new in town It’s so fun and there’s so much to do... There’s so many friends That you couldn’t call a few There’s not many teachers and that’s O.K. And they’re nice too, as much as I can say. Mr Brown’s alright but he doesn’t do his hair He lives in Culcairn and he drives from here to there Mrs Roberts, she's so nice, She's so sweet you could eat her like spice. Mrs Wick she's so small She's alright as much as we can call Mrs Gulliford’s a music fan She does rap On a Cocoa Cola can Mr Van Vliet he’s so cool He does sport and it’s unreal Except when he gets in the swimming pool We’re getting a new school That’ll be soon I hoped it was May But I’m now hoping for June. Dr Irving-Stonebraker will be talking on ‘How Oxford and philosophy drove her from atheism to Jesus’. The evening, on October 26 runs from 7:30-9 pm. 18.01.2022 Mr Alan Brown was the Principal with a vision who led the College community from 1990 - 1995. His resourcefulness and connection with the students is legendary around the College Community. There are memories of Mr Brown purchasing car models for students to complete in their art lessons, inspired by Andrew Whytcross' interest in models. Break times would also see the Principal playing ball (or some other games? Can anyone remember what he played?) with the students and his willingness to support the students in reaching their goals was seen in his loss of hair on behalf of fundraising efforts for World Vision. The Daily Advertiser took these photos - before and after.

14.01.2022 Parents have always been an integral part of the College, but probably never more so than the early years when the College was being established and we lived in a different era. Parents were involved in building (there are stories of people falling off roofs! and Mr Brown said "I found our more about building from that venture (moving to the present College site) than I ever have elsewhere."), fundraising, school camps, working bees as well as the College Board and other College committees. Resources were scarce, so those on the cleaning roster brought their own vacuum cleaner while those covering books brought their own scissors! 04.01.2022 The Christian College aims to 'Educate for Life' and we are keen to share stories of the path of past students - what your memories of the College are and what you have been focusing on since leaving school - maybe it is work or family or ministry. Tony Woodward finished Year 12 in 2009 and has gone on to pursue his dream to be part of the motorsport industry. You might have been part of Lee Weissel's Physics lessons which included racing go carts around the basketball court ...or maybe you sat in Maths Extension 1 with Tony as Catherine Clarke opened up areas of maths that turned out to be foundational for ongoing study. 04.01.2022 The longest serving staff member in the College history, Catherine Clarke, is currently Head of Senior School. Catherine has been at the College since 1996, with a teaching load heavily dominated by maths. Despite her maths inclination one of her interests is writing poetry and Catherine won the staff prize in the 30th Anniversary poetry competition. Her entry is exceptional and worth a read. (We are going to investigate the police driving on the oval story - stay tuned for t...hat story!) It all began some years ago One score and ten, we’re told. When parents said, Let’s build a school, That breaks the usual mould. With Christ at heart, we’ll teach our kids What e’er they need to know, And when they leave, they’ve had the chance To hear and learn and grow. They started off with just one class. St Pauls’ had space to share. And then came land from Farmer Brown. He had a bit to spare. The build began with parent help. In faith they forward went. They added on as numbers grew, With money prayerfully spent. For playing sport they needed teams, And in the Churches found, The names of four who lived the truth. Their faith on common ground. West and Vincent, Lindner too, And Rentoul made the four. Now the kids could run, jump, swim, To get the highest score. They started with a High School plan, Then added Primary too. With OOSH and Preschool later on, To see the vision through. As time went on the grants would help, The Library, .. MPC Extensions to the Junior School, Would bring the plans to be. Buildings here, and then they’re there, With cranes to move ‘em ‘round. Action in the Wetlands when,.. The cops drove on the ground. Floods and fires, drought and hail, There’s something every year. Snakes and mice, a locust plague We’ve seen it all right here. There’s been much joy, such fun as well, A proposal we all saw. Music, Drama, rockets launched! And student works galore. Throughout the years, they’ve come and gone, While others soon returned. And through the highs and lows we’ve lived, But from it all we’ve learned. Mr Brown was here, to see us start. Mr Clisby helped us grow, Mr MacCallum stepped in, to take the helm While change was on the go. And as we move ahead from now, Mr Wilson in the lead, There’s more to do, and learn, and change We’ll adjust to meet the need. Despite the fact the party’s off, The ‘virus’ stopped us cold. We’ll not forget the years gone by, Its stories will be told. Whether we are big or small, Next year or at the start, Our vision, focus, goals and dreams, Have Jesus at the heart.

01.01.2022 The gift of music. 2019 College graduate Caleb Skewes has been pursuing his passion for music over this last year, making the most of his gap year to continue to grow his composition skills. You may remember Caleb's hand made guitar which was his final D&T project or hearing him play his guitar solos in last year's HSC Showcase. In 2020 without the opportunity to perform publicly due to COVID-19 restrictions Caleb and his two bands have been recording songs and sending the best into triple j unearthed where two songs in particular have climbing the charts reaching number 5 on the indie charts and 11 overall.
