25.01.2022 Biirrinba/The Clarence River flows through the hearts of all those who live along its banks. Hayley Talbot , who solo navigated the 400-kilometre-long NSW waterway, knows this well. Together with childhood friend and Patagonia Global Sports Activist Dan Ross , she's been working with their local community on the restoration project #CaringForTheClarence. This week state government support was awarded to a mine prospect at Mt Gilmore, the backdrop to the jewel that is Biirrinba. "Mining the fragile ridge lines of any river, particularly in light of the numerous, environmentally disastrous failures with such methods, is fraught with danger and risk," writes Hayley. 20.01.2022 With the U.S election approaching, our friends in America have been thinking a lot about public lands and what the next four years will mean for their protection. Debates over how America’s public lands should be managed are as old as the system itself, dating back to the early 1900s when President Teddy Roosevelt pioneered the current system. Disagreements have often centred on the balance between energy or resource development and protecting wild places for recreation and w...ildlife - a debate which may sound familiar? 20.01.2022 Why Regenerative Organic? Part 3: What We’re Doing (and Why) Regenerative Organic agriculture could be a viable way to help stop climate change before it's too late. In 1996, Patagonia decided to exclusively use organic cotton and recycled cotton. Now we’re taking our commitment even further by growing the cotton in our clothes with Regenerative Organic methods. The highest organic standard, this farming method supports people and animals working together to restore the health of our planet to create a brighter future. 18.01.2022 Climbing season in El Chaltén, Argentina, is full-house crowded, but come winter most people scatter home. What’s left are a few mountain guides and their friends who are mostly beginner skiers, and the story of growing a backcountry touring community in one of the world's most inhospitable ranges. 16.01.2022 Nowhere in Australia seems off limits to the gas industry. Last August, Ningaloo reef was spared the threat of gas exploration for now and even Sydney - the biggest city in Australia isn’t safe from gas prospecting. The PEP 11 exploration zone stretches along the coast from Sydney north to Newcastle and is well down the road of being developed as a working offshore gas field. 16.01.2022 The best times are about friends, not perfection. It had been four years since Liz Clark, Lea Brassy and Kimi Werner first spent time together, on a sailing trip through the Tuamotus. They knew they’d found something special from the moment they met, and have stayed in touch ever since. Read ‘Sea Sisters’ on #RoaringJournals through the link below. https://pat.ag/SeaSistersAus... 15.01.2022 Hawaiian charger Paige Alms feels most at home in the ocean and is no stranger to pushing the limits in waves of consequence like this heavy drop at Jaws (Pe'ahi), Maui. Paige is also a co-founder of the Committee for Equity in Women’s Surfing (CEWS) with her peers in professional big wave surfing who played a big role in demanding the WSL to implement pay parity and bolster women’s representation at big wave events. 13.01.2022 The Red Desert in southwest Wyoming is the largest unfenced area in the continental United States. In order to raise awareness about this threatened ecosystem, several Wyoming groups representing conservation and recreation interests have banded together to organize a trail race that brings runners, local stakeholders and concerned citizens together to experience this place and see exactly what is at stake. 13.01.2022 A huge step forward this week toward saving the coastline between Sydney and Newcastle from being industrialised by the gas industry. In Federal Parliament, several local MPs spoke passionately in defence of the coast, passing a motion against the renewal of the PEP-11 exploration permit. This is still a long way from over, however. The ultimate authority for the renewal of the permit sits jointly with Federal Resources Minister Keith Pitt and NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro... , and with the permit lapsing in February 2021 we need to keep the pressure on. The campaign being run by Save Our Coast / Stop Seismic Testing and Surfrider Foundation Australia is at a crucial stage. The people of the coast have spoken up loud and clear, with over 26,000 people sending letters to their local MPs through the Save Our Coast website. If you haven’t already, please take the time to contact your local MP and let them know that the coastline between Sydney and Newcastle is too precious to be sold off to the gas industry. #StopPEP11 See more
13.01.2022 Alexander Megos climbs his hardest project yet. He never met a route he couldn’t climb in short order. ..that was until he encountered Bibliographie, an undone sport line at the French super-crag, Céüse. In 2017, Alex Megos first tried the route that would become his three-year project. On the path to the send he encountered doubts and injuries and qualified for the Olympics. 10.01.2022 Since 1973, we’ve built clothes to endure, so you don’t need to buy new as often. There are some things you can do, too. Buy less. Buy used. Repair what you wear out. Demand recycled. Demand Fair Trade. Demand organic. You have the power to change the way clothes are made. #buyless #demandmore https://pat.ag/BuyLessDemandMoreAus
08.01.2022 This one you know. Or we hope you do. It's the first photo we licensed in perpetuity; large prints of it hang in a few of our stores. Jennifer Ridgeway, our first art director and photo editor, loved that dusty little car, and her successor, Jane Sievert, can’t see it today without imagining Jennifer in the car waving a hand out the window as she heads off on her next adventure. Mind you, Jennifer wasn’t along when Barbara Rowell took this shot, but that’s still how I see he...r, Jane says, like Amelia Earhart, in goggles and a cap, ready for flight. We lost Jennifer a year ago. Read her classic essay "Capture a Patagoniac," online through the link below. https://pat.ag/PatagoniacAus Photo: Barbara Rowell
07.01.2022 Cotton is the world’s most popular natural fiber. But conventional cotton is a dirty business. This realisation led us to commit to using 100 percent organic cotton by 1996. The decision was costly, time consuming and required rethinking supply chains. And now we are looking beyond organic, growing cotton on farms working toward Regenerative Organic Certification, which finds solutions within nature to rehabilitate soil, respect animal welfare and improve the lives of farmers.... 07.01.2022 Discarded cotton scraps deserve a fighting chance. 06.01.2022 We play in the same water but we’re not all built the same. Which is why our new Nanogrip swimsuits now come in a variety of styles and fits. This season, our talented Swim Designers, Laura Kinman and Ariel Bishop, went to task and came back with a selection of swimsuits that cater to different body types and perform. After plenty of R&D from our ambassadors, the result is a collection of suits that don’t slip, ride, or slide where you don’t want them to. No matter what the ocean brings, these suits are here to feel like a second skin because when swimsuits are at their best, they don’t require additional thought. https://pat.ag/WomensSwimAus

04.01.2022 When it came time to let go of unwanted clothes, comics journalist Sarah Mirk realized she had a problem. Not only was it emotionally difficult to say goodbye to old clothes, it was also a challenge to find ethical ways to get rid of them. Mirk drew this comic documenting her journey of trying to find the right home for her large pile of cast-off clothes. 03.01.2022 A new legal challenge could be the best chance in a generation to end native forest logging in Australia. The first hearing in Bob Brown Foundation's Great Forest Case is being held tomorrow. If successful, this stand against the logging of native forests in Tasmania would set a precedent and open the door for similar action in other states. Jenny Weber is a decades-long forest defender and the campaign manager at the Bob Brown Foundation, a Patagonia Australia 1% for t...he Planet grantee. She leads us through just what's at stake, from Tassie's takayna/Tarkine to the south-west-corner of WA, the wet tropics of QLD, and the Great Dividing Range down the eastern seaboard to the tallest flowering plants at our continent’s southern-most point.
