16.01.2022 As of Thursday this week Patche pub will only be open for take away food and beverages from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. We will be open Thursday through Sunday for the remainder of stage 3 restrictions. Everyone must be wearing a mask as per guidelines. Orders can be phoned through on 5084 1280 from 5:30 onwards. For Monday to Wednesday this week we will be open from 5:30 till as per normal

16.01.2022 WE ARE BACK...from Thursday 5pm Patche pub will be reopening. There will be restrictions on numbers and rules to adhere to but at least we can open up. At this stage we will be open from 5pm 7 days a week. Meals from 6:30 to 8:30. Thanks to our loyal locals for all their ongoing support through the lockdown periods. 13.01.2022 PATCHE PUB GRAND FINAL DAY Due to ongoing restrictions bookings are essential for grand final day this Saturday. If you don’t book you may be refused entry. $15 set meals of roast pork or lamb with veg or salad or $6 kids meals available. Meals will be available from 6pm until 7:20 sharp. We have seated capacity for maximum 70 outside where the big screen is and 10 in the bar. A further 30 seats are available but there is no TV coverage so book early please to avoid disappo...intment. 09.01.2022 Behind the Scenes with Team AC: Here’s to Patche . I hadn’t had much to do with the small town of Patchewollock before I was a State MP. I knew it was famous ...for a music festival. And that’s about it. . I had never been to the festival but I knew it must have been good given it was voted Mildura Rural City Council’s Event of the Year, despite not being in the Mildura LGA. . As an MRCC councillor, I was consulted about that award and I remember having misgivings. . In my view, it was like giving the title of Miss Venezuela to someone from Brazil. I mean, who really gives a sh*t, but it’s the principle, right? . It’s not in our LGA, I pointed out. . Yeah, but it’s close, came the reply. End of discussion. . It would take another couple of years for me to make my first dedicated trip to Patche, this time as Member for Mildura. . The circumstances were awful. . It was July from memory, and the Victorian Government had just announced that the scheduled re-opening of pubs was indefinitely cancelled on account of the second wave. . The local publican, Bryce, had written an open letter to the Government that had gone viral. It spoke of the distress the restrictions had caused and the monumental financial and emotional strain on pub owners, especially those in the little towns where pubs were more than an optional extra, but an essential service. . After a long-ish drive from Mildura, via Sea Lake, we pulled up to a beautiful, compact, Art Deco brick building with distinctive murals across the facade and an old fashioned fire drum type contraption in the beer garden that reminded me of my Grandfather’s shed. . We stepped inside and there was Bryce, looking down and serious. . Hi, I’m Ali, is there anything I can do?, I said, trying to break the ice. . What’s the point?, he replied expressionless. . Um, well ... I started awkwardly, not knowing where to go next ... . The Government won’t listen anyway, he said abruptly. . I wasn’t there to represent the Government so I sighed and conceded he was probably right. . Yeah, but that won’t stop me from trying, I said. . Bryce softened a bit, maybe because he felt sorry for me - I definitely looked nervous. . Yeah, I know, he said. And then the conversation started to flow ... . We talked about the supplies he had bought in anticipation of reopening, that would now be wasted. . He talked about the electricity bills to keep the place running even though there was f*ck all revenue coming in. . He told me that if a pub in a town like Patche was to close, it’s unlikely it would reopen for a long time, if at all. . We talked about the row of jars above the fireplace, filled with samples of all the different cereals and grains that were grown in the area. . He pointed out the little built-in bench seat next to the fire that the local farmers banned him from ever removing or replacing because generations of farmers’ kids had fallen asleep in that cozy little nook, waiting for dad or grandpa to finish their last beer and for mum it grandma to take them home. . I left thinking that Bryce was most likely correct. There probably wasn’t much that I could do to help. But when I said goodbye and headed back to the car, I felt even more determined to try anyway. . The Patche Pub wouldn’t be going down without a fight. Not on my watch. Or Bryce’s. . Days and weeks went by. The roadmap to reopening the State was released. The timeline for pubs was excruciatingly slow. We lobbied the Government and harassed the Premier’s office. Letters were sent. Phone calls were made. Press releases were emailed, interviews given, tactical discussions had. . Eventually there was a small win. There was going to be an accelerated move to the third step, with some components of the fourth step brought forward. It wasn’t just my efforts. A lot of voices had been lobbying for this, but when I heard this news, my mind went straight to the Patche Pub and Bryce. . Against that backdrop, it was an honour to return to the Patche Pub last Friday to launch a book about the Mallee. . When I gave my speech, I acknowledged the brilliant author (Manangatang boy Adam McNichol) and the world-class photographers who contributed to the book. . But I also acknowledged Bryce - the man whose advocacy caused me to visit Patche in the first place - and whose passion for the Mallee and dedication to its people make him the epitome of Mallee Tough. . Had I known then, what I know now about this extraordinary, quirky, warm, and a little bit eccentric pocket of the Mallee, I would NEVER have questioned that ‘Event of the Year’ Award. . On the contrary, I would have been the one waving off any smart ass dissenters and telling them in no uncertain terms, it’s close enough. 06.01.2022 So Dangerous Dan won’t let us open the doors again...he wants numbers at or close to zero. Hello Dan, Patchewollock and surrounding areas are at zero, always have been (not a single case within 140km). Why then can’t we have a dozen people seated outside? Why can’t we operate with the pre lockdown rules? Why are we lumped in with Geelong (422km)? We could trade without government assistance and actually pay our bills.... Maybe as of September 14 I should just open and fight the dictators for unjustified constraint of trade should they fine me or take away my license? Regional and rural Victoria are not Melbourne!!! Is it time we take a stand and fight our own fight?

04.01.2022 Patchewollock Hotel update. Effective this week Patche pub will be open from Thursday to Sunday 5:30 pm until 8:30 pm with meals available from 6:00pm till 8:00pm. All meals and alcohol sales will be take away only. Orders can be placed by ringing the pub on 5084 1280. Outside of these hours please contact Bryce on 0419 024 660 and I’ll assist where possible. Thanks for your understanding and support during this time and hopefully we will have the old pub back to her crazy self before too long.

03.01.2022 Good morning all, my apologies for posting a group thank you but the response to my last couple of Facebook posts has been overwhelming, not to mention the amazing contributions to the GoFundMe page started by my mate Alan Heenan. From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank each and every one of you. Clearly the patche pub holds a special place in the heart of many people. The comments of support, encouragement and kind wishes shows that there is so much community spiri...t out there. 3 years ago I came to this crazy little pub, who knows why, maybe fate. I was welcomed by everyone warmly and I was allowed the privilege of opening the doors of this iconic pub everyday to locals and tourists alike. Countless travellers have come through the doors and have been welcomed as I were, sitting down for a cold drink and hearing stories about Patche through the ages (I’m sure there’s a book to be written one day). It’s not my pub, it’s the locals pub, the people’s hub, their home away from home where you can drop in and see a friendly and familiar face each and every day, they tell me when I get it right, they tell me when I get it wrong.
