11.01.2022 Goats are prey animals, so they will do their best to hide any signs of being unwell to protect themselves from predators thats why its important to know the very subtle signs of a sick goat The earlier the illness is recognised, the faster the goat can be treated Common abnormal clinical signs include: -grinding teeth (indicates pain) -pressing their head firmly against surfaces -excess saliva -sudden change in behaviour/personality ... -vomiting -straining to urinate -hiding in corners -separating from the herd -laying down more than usual -staring at their tummy (indicates abdominal pain) -unusual vocalisations -lack of eating or drinking -circling repeatedly Its you see any of these signs its important to organise a vet checkup

07.01.2022 How I weigh the goats using girth measurement 1. Use a tape measure around the girth (wrap the tape all the way under the armpits and around the withers). Use INCHES. 2. Measure the length from the point of the shoulder to the pin bone, also in inches. Make sure the tape is snug against the skin. 3. Multiply girth X girth X length 4. Divide your answer by 300... 5. Convert to Kg as your answer is in pounds (or multiply by 0.4536). 6. Now you have your answer This is only ever an estimation but handy for working out drug dosages. For reference by girth measurement Alby is 51kg and on the scales was 53kg so reasonably accurate but not perfect

02.01.2022 Protecting my eyes & remaining fashionable while soaping in all seriousness dont make cold process soap without PPE You can burn yourself while making the soap, but after the saponification process is complete no corrosive Lye remains. Using Lye sounds scary but it is the most traditional and environmentally friendly method for making soap. The alternative melt & pour method uses melted down factory produced soap bases with added nasties no thanks #safetyfirst #goatsmilksoap
