19.02.2022 PATHS is now closed for 2021. Reception will reopen on Monday 10th January 2022, while our psychologists will return at varying times throughout January. We would like to wish our families and colleagues a very Happy Christmas and a safe and relaxing holiday period.

12.02.2022 Relaxation and meditation are skills that can be used throughout a person's life to cope with everyday stress or adversity. Teaching mindfulness skills to your children can set them up for life with the means to cope with anything that they might experience. It won't stop something from happening but it will improve their coping skills. The key is regular practice to train the mind and body so that they know what to do when called into action. In this article, Maggie Dent shares ways that you can introduce and more importantly maintain, mindfulness practices with your children.

26.01.2022 Dr Mona Delahooke suggests a shift in thinking when supporting children both at home and at school.

23.01.2022 While this article refers to a specific Mindfulness app, the general message is really important for the long term wellbeing of our children. Teaching mindfulness and calming strategies improves not only self-regulation but also general health with reduced likelihood of stress related illnesses both now and as adults, improved social relationships, improvements in specific skills such as attention and concentration which impact on learning and overall wellbeing and happiness.

22.01.2022 Reposting this link from last month because it has some really good parenting essentials that are worth reading.

20.01.2022 In this post, Karen Young from Hey Sigmund discusses how we can help our children regulate their nervous systems by co-regulating with them. With practice, co-regulation helps children to develop the vital neural pathways to come back to calm on their own. Our own self-regulation as the parent and co-regulation partner is also important.

14.01.2022 Can anyone recommend a good garden/lawn maintenance service for the Mount Eliza (Vic) area?

12.01.2022 PATHS is currently on the hunt for some quality staff for two positions. We have an opening for a part time receptionist for Mon to Wed 10am-2pm. This would suit someone with medical reception experience but we are looking for a mature person who understands the confidentiality of our work. Duties include phone and desk reception, intake for new clients, appointment scheduling, invoicing and processing payments as well as general admin tasks. For further details or to apply..., contact us at [email protected] au or if you know someone who might be interested, please share. With James Lemondine moving on to a fulltime position in schools, we are also looking for an Educational & Developmental Psychologist for up to 3 days a week. At least 2-3 years experience (post registration) and autism assessment skills would be highly regarded. Once again contact us at [email protected] for more details and feel free to share this with someone who might be interested in making the move to the flexibility of private practice.

11.01.2022 Thanks to those of you who got the word out...our Receptionist position has been filled. Nikki started with us this week and will be covering reception Mon-FrI for the following two weeks while Sarah is on leave. We are still looking for the right psychologist to join our team. An advert has gone into PsychXchange from the 20 June or contact us directly for details.

10.01.2022 There are two really important points in this story - relevant to parenting girls as well as boys. 1. Rescue parenting rather than allowing natural consequences teach making better choices. 2. "We teach others how to treat us." Amen to that.

06.01.2022 We came across this excellent resource today which highlights the difficulties in identifying girls with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. We think it's particularity validating for families who know that there is "something" when school keeps saying "everything is fine". https://www.yellowladybugs.com.au/School/Download

05.01.2022 Struggling to get out of the house in the morning with everyone dressed and with what they need for the day? Then don’t under estimate the power of routine. Routine not only helps set up you and your children for a good day (or night) but for their future lives.

04.01.2022 Today is RUOK? Day Is there someone in your life you could be checking in with?

02.01.2022 Have a great Father's Day weekend.

02.01.2022 WELCOME TO 2018 - PATHS reception reopened today with our psychologists, Ilona Bell, Emily Settree, Dr. Emily Berger and James Lemondine returning to the clinic over the next few weeks. For those of you still on holidays, we hope that the current cooler weather doesn't have your kids battling it out at home. Here are a few tips on how you can help your children develop better self-regulation to hopefully calm the rainy-day-blues.

01.01.2022 Australian school children are reporting that ADHD is hugely misunderstood and it's affecting their education and self esteem. A key strategy for managing students with ADHD is to suspend beliefs and stereotypes and approach these students with understanding and compassion.
