25.01.2022 How big did you say that rock was, mate? Just for you, Jono.

25.01.2022 New gates for Southern Waste. They’re big, and they’re gatey!

25.01.2022 A couple of nice, new grind path adjusters. Sadly, not too long from now, they will be banana shaped. Why? Because they go on an impactor. As the name suggests, an impactor is a machine that knows no grace, nor subtlety, but can tell you quite a bit about blunt force trauma.

23.01.2022 Its no good when youre welding hot, and you melt the plastic of the handpiece so that the gooseneck flops around like a cock in a sock! Jury rigged this up with a ring grip and some exhaust lagging. Good as new! Bush skills, baby!

23.01.2022 Pattos pro tips for operators: Tip #74 Stop running your machine *before* the wear plates fall off. Then it wont end up like this. Just as well theres a fresh plate to hide the ugliness.

22.01.2022 Well. Not much left of this sieve bucket after getting rid of the worn and busted bits... more or less a do-over.

22.01.2022 Shiny new anti-magnetic belt covers for an impactor mag belt.

22.01.2022 Wee little aluminium repair. Its nice to be able to TIG again, thanks to prescription glasses!

20.01.2022 Yet another snapped dozer ripper slapped on the bum, and sent back to site. While I'm glad that none of my work has come back, I am getting a little curious as to what these boys are trying to tear through!

20.01.2022 For logistical reasons, I cant flip this 1900 bucket over today... time to squirty the verties! Its times like this I remember why I love my flux core! Best stuff in position!

19.01.2022 When the owner blows in out of nowhere, and is all like I have this random idea in my head, that just occurred to me now. Take it out of my head, and make it real while I stand here watching you, and waiting for it. ...why, Id love to.

19.01.2022 Yeah, so. Im just going to retro-fit this ol girl with new adapters and armour. This will not be a five minute job...

19.01.2022 Just a little change of pace... something nice and light. Custom foot holds and grab rails for a prime mover... now he can unhook that turntable with ease!

19.01.2022 Heres a job that was a bit more technical than average. Its the ring off a grader. In for a refurbish, it got new teeth, and relined knuckles. It had to be properly sequenced to ensure it stayed properly round, and very carefully checked to make sure that it is going to mesh smoothly into the drive sprocket. All said and done, it came in at a very satisfying 0.5mm accuracy. Noice.

18.01.2022 Yeah, so. I’m just going to retro-fit this ol’ girl with new adapters and armour. This will not be a five minute job...

18.01.2022 Some new cabinetry for a mobile rock crusher.

18.01.2022 Because why not?

18.01.2022 I only rarely use aluminium, but it is nice to have those skills in the bank.

17.01.2022 They say a change is as good as a holiday... Ive just been doing some ally repairs on a drill rig mast, and an old tipper trailer. Dont get me wrong, this is *not* occupational Tahiti. Its more like a road trip to Naracoorte, but its nice.

16.01.2022 Chain curtains for the big shop press. I wanted to build counterweighted cages... but I'm not the one paying the bills.

15.01.2022 As a boily, theres something very zen about welding at 300+ amps to simultaneously fuse a seam, while sequencing your welds to perfectly straighten an edge. Ohm.....

14.01.2022 A bit better than blowing a hole through your fork tines to accomodate a tow ball...

12.01.2022 Just a little extinguisher bracket/grab rail combo for this D7 dozer.

12.01.2022 When the owner blows in out of nowhere, and is all like 'I have this random idea in my head, that just occurred to me now. Take it out of my head, and make it real while I stand here watching you, and waiting for it.' ...why, I'd love to.

12.01.2022 'How big did you say that rock was, mate?' Just for you, Jono.

12.01.2022 Yesterdays job was to rebuild the back end of these skid steer track frames. Theyd eaten a few too many rocks, and the rear axel was just shy of breaking loose. Scalloped out around the track guide to about 3mm. The paint makes the repair stick out like a sore thumb, but thats nothing getting dragged around in the dirt for a few days wont fix.

11.01.2022 Next cab off the rank, this 1900 bucket needs some dentistry. ..,and yeah Jono, I've met the occasional digger operator, too. The way this guy busted off an adaptor, and just kept digging suggests he's never been an owner-operator.

08.01.2022 Just a bit of rough love for this mobile screen deck. A bit of structural repair, some patches, and hardfacing... itll be shaking the hell out of some rocks again in no time!

07.01.2022 This was an interesting gig. A structural upgrade on the heritage listed Victoria St. bridge in Melbourne. Got pretty frosty hanging over the Yarra in winter!

07.01.2022 Uuuum... one slightly used rock crushing bucket.

07.01.2022 Just a selfie with my new bestie. Me and 1900 bucket have been hanging out together for the last week, or so. We got off to a rough start, with a bunch of carbon arc gouging, but were getting on great now. This is us celebrating about a 3/4 ton of fresh armour, and our 45th kilo of weld metal. Good times!

06.01.2022 Sometimes being in maintenance is about adaptation and improvisation. Ive just made these 450 grade cutters for a skidsteer slasher. The last ones snapped after a shear pin was replaced with a 10.9 high tensile bolt. I have been emphatic about using correct shear pins. Fingers crossed.

06.01.2022 Hardfacing. Pretty much the boily equivalent of those mandala colouring in books...

06.01.2022 This poor old, bucket. She came in for a snapped adaptor, but as I cleaned it up, more and more cracks showed. A liquid dye-pen test told a very sad story indeed...

05.01.2022 There's not much call for pipe work in my current gig, so it's always a welcome change to the routine. Even if it is just a couple of easy as straight sections.

03.01.2022 Getting back to my metalworking roots. Making some gates. Gates that send a particular kind of message to your neighbours.

02.01.2022 Uber drop bolts. Overkill? Yeah, probably.

01.01.2022 A compression mount for an articulated water cart. Designed to absorb the inertia of 40 ton of liquid sloshing around.

01.01.2022 Mending come stoved in panels, and walkways off a PC2000.
