05.01.2022 Stories from the Paul Doody Music Back Catalogue! Theme song to the 1982 Commonwealth Games - that never was!! One quiet afternoon in 1981 Michael Mangan and myself were sitting writing songs to pass the time when we had a light bulb moment - Why not write a theme song for the 1982 Commonwealth Games which were just over a year away. Clearly that far out they would be desperately searching for a great song...so we thought.... Having access to the TRACS recording studio in Fortitude Valley in Brisbane we set about writing the seminal anthem for the 1982 Games. We knew if we were going to impress the Games organisers we'd have to do it well so: drums, bass, guitars, trumpets, and lots of voices - we had it all and the laconic voice of Michael, our ace in the hole!! As it happens with many great ideas, things came together pretty quickly and before we knew it we had the master track in our hot and sweaty little hands. So off to the Games organisers we went. Now you would have to say they were pretty decent about the whole thing, giving us plenty of time to sell our masterpiece. Unfortunately, the music for the Games had been locked away some 12 months before and if you Google - "Who wrote the music for the 1982 Commonwealth Games" no you won't find Michael Mangan and Paul Doody but some guy by the name of Tommy Tycho!! So from the forgotten archives of the Paul Doody Music back catalogue comes the greatest theme that never was. Pardon the quality, the last remaining version of this track was found on a cheap cassette tape that was well beyond its use by date. I have tried, with questionable results, to remaster the original to save the old track from total oblivion. Let me know what you think? As always likes and shares are much appreciated. http://pauldoody.bandcamp.com/tra/commonwealth-games-jingle
