You’ll often hear me talk about the goodness of our Shea Butter, it’s in so many of our products because it’s such an incredibly nourishing natural ingredient, sourced from one of our oldest Community Fair Trade partners, the Tungteiya Womens Cooperative in Ghana, where our trade is empowering women and doing good in communities where women seldom have opportunities to earn their own income. Here’s some interesting Shea facts! ... Shea Butter comes from the Shea nut which grows on the Vitellaria paradoxa, commonly known as shea tree, shi tree, or vitellaria and is indigenous to Africa. The tree is a traditional food plant and grows naturally in the wild in 19 countries across Africa. It can produce fruit for up to 200 years! Scientific investigations have found that refined shea nut butter does not pose any known or likely allergy risk to consumers, including those with peanut or tree nut allergies. I’m discovering the versatility of the refined butter pictured here, I’ve always loved our Shea range and this is what it’s all based on, as well as being in all our iconic Body Butters. This packet of natural goodness is the bomb for dry, irritated skin! I’ve been massaging it around my eyelids to help with extreme dryness, it’s the only thing that is helping. I’d got to the point of desperation and have a script for a cortisone cream from my optometrist, which I was loathe to use. Thankfully, using a tiny amount of our 100% natural Shea Butter morning and night, my irritated eyelids are pretty much back to normal without the need for filling that script, together with my little pot of Elderflower Eye Gel to help with morning puffiness. I’ve put some Shea Butter in a little sample pot which lives beside my bed, after I’ve cleansed my face, I scoop a tiny amount on my ring finger, warm it between my two ring fingers to melt and soften it a little (no need on warmer days!) and then massage very gently around my eye lids. Any excess goes on my lips! Also great for elbows, anywhere that gets extra dry or irritated, it’s so natural and feels soothing while nourishing the skin. Use as a base for natural homemade skincare recipes, add sugar for a lip scrub, essential oils for your favourite scented moisturiser or just use it straight from the packet au naturel!
