24.01.2022 Look at the differences between a typical preschool childs hand (left) and a typical 7 year old hand (right). Want to know why a preschool aged child isnt a...ble to write yet? This is why! Their hands are still developing and are not fully formed. So what should they be doing to support this? PLAY!! Playdough, colouring, cutting, gluing, playing outside, digging in dirt, sensory play, dress up play, science experiments, beading, puzzles, throwing balls, etc. . All of these things help their hands develop. When they are physically ready to write, they will! No need to rush them, they will show you when they are ready. via @Raisingherbarefoot

23.01.2022 Water play! The possums are enjoying learning how to use the hand whisk. Quite tricky to hold it in one hand upwards and use the other hand to manipulate and turn the handle.

23.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC week. Yesterday was spent preparing our activities for the week. Always was and always will be is the focus theme of NAIDOC.

22.01.2022 Well done Jack! You completed the 35 piece puzzle with very little help. Awesome job

22.01.2022 Jumping off the boat is a favourite pastime. They were saying, Crocodile, crocodile, crocodile 123 and jumping off. Miss Everleigh loves to join in too by trying to jump off the gang plank. The older children love Everleigh to join in their play and ensure that she keeps safe.

21.01.2022 We are having lots of fun playing with the natural large building blocks that Shaun made a couple of years ago. Blocks help children learn to take turns and share materials, develop new friendships, become self-reliant, increase attention span, cooperate with others, and develop self-esteem The developmental skills of construction play with blocks are:... *motor skills and hand-eye coordination, *spatial reasoning, *cognitive flexibility, *language skills, *a capacity for creative, divergent thinking, *social competence, and. *engineering skills.

18.01.2022 Exploring and creating with paints. Thea loves making hand prints. It was Maxs first time painting on his own. He bravely attempted to put paint on his hands like I did last week to create his Fathers Day gift, but he didnt like it and wanted to keep wiping his hands clean. ... Raymond quietly and diligently created his painting and was very proud of his picture. Everleigh loves to paint at every opportunity. She seemed to like the colour yellow today.

18.01.2022 A spontaneous activity this afternoon; an assessment of their recognition and knowledge of colours and basic shapes. The children independently selected, glued and stuck shape into matching one on worksheet.

16.01.2022 Miss E was so absorbed in filling and empty her container of sand. Great hand/eye coordination when scooping up the sand and transferring to the container.

16.01.2022 Well done to my fellow educators and friends who have been nominated by their families. Well deserved and recognition for all the hard work they do, the caring and professionalism to their families that never waivered over the last few months during our difficult times.

14.01.2022 Family Day Care is a prime example of promoting mix age play groups. Its is fabulous to see the older children nurture and develop patience, tolerance and understanding of the younger children. In turn the younger children learn from their older peers building on the skills they are learning and developing each day.

13.01.2022 Thank you to the lovely parent who nominated me for this award. It makes my day to know that I am doing right by my children and families and that they are happy with the service I provide. As I have said many a time, FDC isnt just a job to me, it is my passion and vocation in life.

12.01.2022 Wow Millie! I only showed you once how to write your name. You listened and watched carefully. Such concentration and you expressed a sense of pride and achievement once completed.

10.01.2022 Christmas is coming to Little Possoms FDC!

09.01.2022 Today we have been learning and exploring the mathematical language of small, smaller, smallest, big, bigger and biggest. We first worked together as a group to order the stacking rings using the above mathematical language to order in size the stacking rings. The children then each received a set of size sequence picture cards to put in order of size from the biggest to the smallest. ... Miss Millie corrected herself when she realised she has placed two cards in the wrong order.

09.01.2022 Dress up fun as Santa , Elf and Fairy . How cute do they look

09.01.2022 Yesterday we celebrated Everleighs 2nd birthday! Her friends were so excited for her as she opening up her gifts. Celebrations can be as diverse as each of the children in a child care service. When incorporated into childrens services appropriately, celebrations can be used to bring people together, to create a feeling of belonging and to develop a sense of community amongst families, educators and children.... The incorporation of celebrations into childrens services programs can be an enriching experience for children, educators and families. If incorporated in a sensitive and respectful manner, celebrations can provide an opportunity for children to develop respect for diverse values and beliefs as they learn about practices which are different to their own. 08.01.2022 A little quiet time practicing our cutting skills, learning to hold the scissors correctly and thumb looking up at the ceiling to ensure we dont twist our wrist.

05.01.2022 It’s time to decorate the tree for the merry Christmas season, It’s time to decorate the tree, Christmas time is here!

05.01.2022 Silky playdough (hair conditioner and corn starch). Nice and soft and fun to squish and squeeze, strengthening our hand muscles. The little possums also made some funny faces. Unfortunately it doesnt last long in the warm air as it dries out quite quickly .

05.01.2022 So this week we have been continuing our Dental Week. This morning we did a science experiment with a can of Pepsi Max and Eggs. In theory an egg shell works similar to the enamel found on your teeth. The eggs were boiled and placed in a pan full of Pepsi Max and left to soak overnight. the egg within the jar and pour the coke over the egg. The eggs turned a yucky brown. Remember the egg represents the enamel on your teeth and therefore it had lots of sugar coated on it. ... The children were fascinated! They brushed the egg clean showing how important it was to make sure we clean our teeth properly twice a day. A simple but effective experiment to highlight what sugar does to our teeth if we dont brush them properly.

05.01.2022 We have been cleaning the teeth, practicing to brush up and down and in a circular motion. Once the teeth were clean, we then used the pen to draw more sugar bugs and repeated the cleaning process.

05.01.2022 Spaghetti Bolognese for lunch today. It is total silence at the table whilst the lilpossums are engrossed in eating. Paula its yummy! Said Chloe Its delicious said Jack Mmmmm! Said Millie... Everleigh smiles and continues to eat her pasta.

03.01.2022 Making the family books was such a good idea as these books are looked at often whilst the children are in care. They love to show their friends and talk about the members of their families and all about themselves.

03.01.2022 There is something so magical playing with the wooden musical tree. Dropping balls on it to roll down creates therapeutic sounds.

03.01.2022 Millie loves cooking so today the children made their own pizza for lunch. They choose cheese ham and tomato toppings. Miss E ate the toppings as she placed on her pizza base. She wasnt impressed when I took it away to cook in the oven.

02.01.2022 Happy Fathers Day to all the Little Possums dads. I hope you enjoy the gifts that they made and created. Friday childrens gifts for daddies. If anyone can send a picture of their gifts, please do as I forgot to take pics.

01.01.2022 This is one of many things I adore about FDC and mixed age groups. The older children take initiative and help their younger peer to enjoy a ride on the trike being the driver and the older children take turns to help the driver.
