23.01.2022 And that’s 28 days without a case. Thank you Victoria, take a bow.

23.01.2022 Like all of you, I was horrified to hear of up to 100 wild birds killed or injured after they were set alight in a petrol attack at Langwarrin and I raised the incident in Parliament this week. If you would like to assist these birds recover, please consider donating to Animalia Wildlife Shelter.... Donations can be made via Westpac to: Animalia Wildlife Shelter ACC: 434072 BSB: 033138

22.01.2022 BUILDING OUR RECOVERY WORKFORCE Supporting the professionals that were there for us every day - mental health professionals, family violence specialists and child support workers. This years Budget will increase support for these hard working Victorians, create better pathways to roles in these vital sectors and and recruit even more of these skilled workers.

19.01.2022 As you will have heard, a cleaner working in a Brisbane quarantine hotel has tested positive for the emerging UK strain of the virus which is the first time this variant has been detected in the Australian community. This morning Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced a three-day stay at home order for Greater Brisbane, starting at 6pm tonight. The UK strain is estimated to be up to 70 per cent more transmissible than others. And if you look at the graph of daily infection...s currently happening in the UK, it's now basically a vertical line. If you have plans to travel to Brisbane over the weekend, cancel them. If you've been in the Brisbane area at any point since 2 January please get tested and stay at home until Monday, when a further assessment will be made based on what's discovered over the weekend. If you're currently in Brisbane, the lockdown rules apply to you. You need to stay where you are. Do not travel.

18.01.2022 BREAKING BUDGET NEWS: The Andrews Labor Government will establish an Australian Institute for Infectious Disease in the heart of Melbourne’s renowned Parkville biomedical precinct to lead the fight against future pandemics. The Victorian Budget 2020/21 will include an investment of $155 million towards the $550 million institute, with the University of Melbourne and its partners contributing a further $150 million and the remaining funds to be sought from the Commonwealth Gov...ernment. Once operational, the Institute will provide a massive boost to the biomedical sector and could support up to 5,000 jobs, including up to 850 jobs at the Institute itself. The pandemic has highlighted the importance of backing science and research in getting ahead of outbreaks and keeping people safe with the institute designed to deliver everything researchers need to detect, analyse, manage and treat infectious diseases. This is another huge investment coming out of the Victorian Budget helping to create jobs and one that continues to deliver for all Victorians.

18.01.2022 There have been 35 fatal drowning incidents in Victoria since July. 12 of these were children under 14, 7 of which occurred at home. As we get back out and enjoy a Covid-normal summer by the pool, inland waterways or our world-class coastline and beaches, lets play it safe by the water. A massive thanks to the first responders saving Victorian lives in the water every day Coast Guard, MSAR, Victoria Police, Life Saving Victoria, Parks Victoria, Ambulance Victoria and many more.

17.01.2022 The Victorian Government is seeking community feedback on stronger planning controls to permanently protect Melbourne’s green wedges and agricultural land. These important green areas located within 100 kilometres of Melbourne support thousands of jobs in conservation, tourism and agriculture and are also crucial for food production. As our population increases, the proposed planning changes will better protect green wedges from overdevelopment while keeping farms on our ur...ban fringes working and feeding our city. Melbourne’s twelve green wedges cover the areas just outside Melbourne’s Urban Growth Boundary and provide an essential break between the intensive urban development along the city’s growth corridors. 14.01.2022 More solar battery rebates! 1,000 new household solar battery rebates have been released to Victorians, as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s record breaking household energy efficiency investment package. $191 million will be provided from the Victorian Budget 2020/21 to expand the Solar Homes program right across Victoria.... The package will provide a total of 17,500 solar battery rebates over the next three years, with no postcode eligibility restrictions in place. This is in response to surging demand for solar battery technology, which allows Victorians to safely and efficiently store solar power, driving down energy bills and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Labor Government will also deliver an additional 42,000 solar PV panel rebates over the next two years, bringing the total to 140,000. Already over 100,000 Victorian households have installed solar panels as part of the Solar Homes program, and this investment will allow thousands more to save on their energy bills while supporting jobs and economic activity in the industry. Small businesses are also being encouraged to get on board, with 15,000 extra solar rebates being made available to them. This expansion is all part of the Labor Government’s $797 million household energy efficiency package, benefitting over 1.6 million households across the state.

07.01.2022 No part of going through this pandemic has been easy, but we have to acknowledge the toll it’s taken on our mental health. It’s been tough, but as we keep going in the right direction towards COVID normal, we can’t drop the ball when it comes to making sure all Victorians have access to the mental health care that they need. So, the 2020/21 Victorian budget will include $868.6 million in funding for our mental health system. It’s about getting people back to work through job ...Continue reading

06.01.2022 Yesterday there were 4 new cases reported 2 local, 2 in hotel quarantine. The two locally acquired cases are close household contacts of a previously confirmed case linked to the Holiday Inn. 23,950 test results were received.

06.01.2022 We know that the risk of transmission is up to 20 times higher inside which is why masks are mandatory in all indoor spaces and PT for the time being. It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference.

05.01.2022 Zero new cases!

05.01.2022 I urge you to add your name to the growing list of people who have signed the petition calling on the Morrison Government to protect the koala! Thousands of Koalas perished during the 2019-20 bushfires and lot of people were shocked and outraged to hear about the massacre of koalas at Cape Bridgewater in early 2020. But there were no protections for that Victorian Koala population under federal law since they weren’t listed as vulnerable.... The koala is a national icon and deserves national protection. Current laws and penalties are not tough enough. https://www.alp.org.au/protectthekoala

04.01.2022 Excellent news! There were 3 cases notified to the department in the past 24 hours. This includes 1 locally acquired and 2 in hotel quarantine. 37,509 test results were received. #StaySafeStayOpen #EveryTestHelps.

01.01.2022 On this day 38 years ago Victoria and South Australia experienced what was to be known as the Ash Wednesday bushfires. Tragically, 75 lives were lost including 14 CFA and three SA Country Fire Service volunteer firefighters. We take a moment of reflection today, as our thoughts are with those who lost so much on February 16, 1983.... Lifeline: 13 11 14 CFA Wellbeing Support Line: 1800 959 232 Image: Tim Fitzgerald
