24.01.2022 Intricately complex salt structures found deep in the vast, wild expanse of Kati Thanda - Lake Eyre

23.01.2022 This image was a Finalist in the landscape category of the Australian Photography Awards a few weeks ago. I’ve never shown this before, but it’s part of my ongoing series ‘Altered Lands’ exploring how we are changing the earth by using it as a resource. There is a conscious symbolism of the man-made structures encroaching from both sides and squeezing into the natural pathway of the lake bed. Looking close also gives you a taste of the vastness of the scale of operation

20.01.2022 Delicious textures weave through the myriad of sandbars along the exquisitely coloured coastline of the remote Dampier Peninsula north of Broome...

18.01.2022 Howdy folks! To all our Talking Landscape Photography Show supporters, we’ve had to make a last minute reschedule from tonight to next week Wednesday 18th of November for Scott McCook’s epic WA Aerial adventure presentation. Apologies for the late notice, but let the anticipation build! I have some absolute cracker stories prepared myself for some of our nefarious adventures together lol, and now I’ll have time to dig even deeper! ... Also, we now we have an evening free to immerse in our own creativity... It’s 33 degrees in Hobart, so I’m going for a quick swim and thinking of spending the evening doing something a bit different for me, by cooking up some delicious Italian with a friend for a big dinner tomorrow night! See you next week legends Wed 730pm Nov 18th Maybe let anyone know who regularly comes on or was planning to be there for tonight that it’s been postponed Cheers! Paul

18.01.2022 The underwater world has its own litany when it comes to shape and movement. Water has a different dynamism to air and holds so much more mystery for us all. This image and was an incredible surprise for me - seeing a place I’ve been in the water surfing for over two decades so differently - and a suitable image to celebrate gaining my commercial drone pilot licence!

12.01.2022 The early rays of light crossing the floor of the infamous Badwater Basin in Death Valley unveil a myriad of sinewy textural features...

11.01.2022 The delicate intricacies and patterns of the many tidal waterways in the remote West Kimberley coast never fail to excite me from an artistic perspective in both colour and form... I’m still taking orders and printing for Christmas, so flick through my feed, pick a favourite and DM me for some last minute gift ideas :) cheers folks!

08.01.2022 Very excited tonight to launch an online collection art works for sale as a guest artist at the Full Gamut Gallery!! As many of you know, I have a soulful hunger and deep urge to shift perspective, rise into the sky and explore and create interpretations of the world from the air. Being up there feels like one step closer to heaven, and it helps me to see and understand nature's intricate balance and interconnectivity more than anything else ever has. For the gallery, I've co...llated a mixture of fresh new work and a few of my career favourites to offer a selection of pieces with an intriguing mix of colour, texture, form and narrative. Attached are a few taster images... The full range of art pieces are available for purchase here at the Full Gamut Gallery link and will all be printed on superb fine art matte papers with archival quality pigment inks, and signed by me personally. https://www.fullgamut.com.au/full-gamut-gallery/paul-hoelen/ The team at Full Gamut are some of the best at what they do in this country and easily the best in Tasmania, there's no one alive I trust more to print my work to the standards that I aim for as an artist! That's what art is created for - to take your thoughts and spirit to another place or space, and leave you in a better place for it... and there's simply no better way to do that, than in exquisitely printed form So if you’re drawn to a piece for your home, work or to gift to a loved one, then it’s all set up for your order and ready to go. Merry Christmas folks Feel free to share... Arohanui, Paul

06.01.2022 Near the western edge of the massive arid expanse of Kati Thanda - Lake Eyre lies a series of mound springs. They connect to the artesian basin deep underground and channel life giving water to the surface. The various trace minerals in the water translate into a striking mix of colours as they evaporate in the immense and unrelenting heat...

03.01.2022 A recent favourite from an industrial trona mineral mine in central California. I particularly enjoy the colour palette and textural qualities. This won a Gold Award in the NZ Professional Photography Awards a few weeks ago which was cool and the conversation about it was super interesting! How does it speak to you?!
