This issue lies deeply engrained within A CULTURE that dance, in Australia, HAS BEEN exploited by major organisations for decades. Undervalued by many, enjoyed by all. And this will continue unless we actually have a respectful and meaningful conversation and not back down. NOTHING WILL CHANGE UNLESS WE ALL DECIDE TO CHANGE IT. STAND TALL DANCE INDUSTRY. 06.01.2022 Im smiling so hard for a very good reason. I cannot express how fulfilled this group of human beings has made me and how proud I am of them and our entire Transit team. Today we filmed my new work ROADMAP choreographed on our Transit Origins Academy, 5 year 12s going through their exams and not having a full cast for a fortnight and today couldn't have gone better. Thank you all, big shout out to @kaitlinmalone_ for assisting me through this process. @jaydenhicks for being such a shining light and for lighting my work so beautifully. 03.01.2022 JUST BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN DONE FOR DECADES DOESN'T MEAN IT'S RIGHT. #paythedancers Just because dancers have volunteered at major events for 'decades' doesn't mean it is the way it should be. Nor does it mean we shouldn't remodel it for the benefit of future generations. Life evolves, we make mistakes, we learn, we teach. If 2020 is going to teach us something surely it is that we can review and have the conversation for change across multiple issues. What I have learnt over t...he last 48 hours now, is that even though we have had a chance to have a conversation of the value of entertainment in Australia, the journalism and approach to the deeply engrained systematic issue has been washed over. A little bit of a shrug, throw in a joke and let us get on with the game. This is exactly the issue Australia. We are choosing to value a dancer's contribution to major events as nil. While the organisation in question is set to reach a $50 million profit this year alone. For it to be said on Sunrise this morning that you can't pay that many dancers. Well, with a $50 million profit, I am sure there is room in the budget to take a little closer look at that. These events are not community events. I can tell you the performance opportunities for community dance (apart of course for 2020) are a plenty. Amazing not-for-profit and charity organisations doing wonderful jobs and providing these opportunities. A For-profit event has the ability and some would say responsibility to build a culture in this country where entertainment is valued professionally. Just like every other role that takes part in such an event. Dance is a profession after all. How amazing would it be if Australia changed the model for good? To say, oh wow, we could actually do better. We could take the lead and bring entertainment value and worth to major events and create a culture that arts are valued just as much as every other industry. This is my daily food for thought. 01.01.2022 The dance studio industry in Victoria is haemorrhaging and something needs to change for the future of its survival. The stories are coming in thick and painfully fast from those who are actually closing their doors because of this unreasonably bleak outlook and road map back in comparison with the rest of youth activities. The important role dance has on mental health, creativity and celebration of the performing arts within our community is undeniable. It's place, within a...ll of our lives is so very important. Everyone at some stage of their life has shared in the inspirational world of dance. Whether through their own journey, a family members, friend or acquaintance. I have been brought to tears of late watching friends businesses collapse and those who have inspired me on my own journey through dance be so greatly affected. Enough is Enough.
