10.01.2022 Community Information Update: First touring show at Brolga Theatre in nine months The Brolga Theatre and Convention Centre in Maryborough will host its first live touring stage show in nine months in December. George Seymour - Fraser Coast Mayor said COVID-19 had kept arts and live performance venues shuttered for months so it was fantastic to be able to welcome back patrons for a range of upcoming events at the Brolga Theatre.... The COVID-19 pandemic has had an enormous economic and social impact on the community, and the arts and live performance industry has been particularly hard hit, he said. The Brolga Theatre has recently welcomed back ‘Morning Melodies’ performances and a show by local theatre company Z-PAC Theatre, and it’s wonderful that the venue will now also host its first touring show since ‘The Sapphires’ in March. ‘A Celtic Christmas by A Taste of Ireland’ is a whirlwind of traditional Irish music and dance featuring a powerhouse mix of heartfelt ballads, your favourite carols, and traditional tunes that tell the timeless romantic story of two star crossed lovers as they dance under the mistletoe. The show is being held at the Brolga Theatre on Tuesday 8 December at 7.30pm with tickets ranging from $59.90 for children under 12 to $69.90 for adults, with concessions available for Friends of the Brolga, pensioners, seniors and students, and group bookings. Cr Seymour said audience numbers would be limited with physical distancing measures in place such as seating patrons in ‘bubbles’ with space between groups as part of the Theatre’s COVID safe plan. Due to COVID restrictions, tickets cannot be sold online, with patrons asked to contact the Box Office on 4122 6060 to purchase tickets. All patrons who want to sit together must buy their tickets at the same time as a group booking, he said. To learn more about the Brolga Theatre’s COVID Safe plans, watch a video here - https://youtu.be/TyUmQPY0HV0 or visit https://brolga.ourfrasercoast.com.au/covid-19 Cr Seymour said planning was also underway for a free livestreamed Festive Fraser Coast concert at the Brolga Theatre on 19 December. There will be a limited number of tickets for sale to attend in person at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough while unlimited at home tickets will be available to access a free live stream, he said. Council is also working with Fraser Coast Tourism & Events to livestream the Festive Fraser Coast concert on the big screen at Seafront Oval in Hervey Bay. More details will be released soon and will be available at https://www.ourfrasercoast.com.au/

10.01.2022 "What's happening with Council's Maryborough Administration Building?" Is a question I often get asked by the public, and rightly so. It's been quite a while since the now demolished site was vacated by staff, with Council now renting a few places in Maryborough. Thanks Cr Daniel Sanderson for raising this question at the Council meeting this week. I'm looking forward to seeing a report on the progress of what's happening, so the community can be kept informed of this important process.

10.01.2022 Community Information Update: Advanced Welding Skills Training Program positions available The Fraser Coast has been chosen as a trial site for a program to develop existing welders in the manufacturing sector across the Fraser Coast. The Manufacturing sector has a strong history on the Fraser Coast, Cr Jade Wellings said.... Having access to the Advanced Welding Skills Program to develop the skills of existing welders to Fusion Welding ISO 9606 standard will provide local businesses with a global competitive advantage and will bring many benefits to the region. The Advanced Welding Skills Program is part of a $9 million initiative under the Regional Skills Investment Strategy (RSIS) which supports industry collaboration on local training solutions to address current workforce skills needs. The Fraser Coast Regional Council has partnered with the Queensland Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT) to deliver the Regional Skills Investment Strategy (RSIS). The program is targeting the manufacturing industry workforce, primarily increasing skills of existing welders in the Fraser Coast, Cr Wellings said. Under the Advanced Welding Skills Program, existing Fraser Coast welders can formalise their current skills through accredited training in Fusion Welding to ISO 9606. The one-week training program, based on industry feedback, will be co-ordinated by Council and delivered by TAFE Queensland. There are a limited number of positions available for people currently working in the manufacturing sector. The program will start by end November. Businesses can lodge an expressions of interest for workers to attend the course online by emailing [email protected] or contact Fraser Coast Regional Skill Investment Strategy Project Co-ordinator Kerry Fullarton on 0436 929 854 for more information. This Regional Skills Investment Strategy project is proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government.

02.01.2022 SYDNEY STREET ROAD UPDATE At this months Council meeting (Wednesday 25 November), I put forward a motion to council to add to the budget the design and construction of a one way road, from the back of Sydney St, along the gazetted road of Ariadne St, through to Victory St. This is to allow traffic to get out of Sydney St, back into Maryborough without having to go onto Saltwater Creek Road. This would be a huge improvement for safety. Thankfully, the motion passed unanimously. Thanks Jade Wellings - Fraser Coast for this video.

01.01.2022 Community Information Update: Maryborough Walking tours resume and local attractions open for longer Free guided walking tours of Maryborough resume today for the first time since March while local tourist attractions the Bond Store and Story Bank are now open seven days a week again. George Seymour - Fraser Coast Mayor encouraged local residents and visitors to sign up for a free guided walking tour to discover more about Maryborough’s fascinating and colourful past.... Maryborough was first settled in 1847 and is one of Queensland’s oldest cities. Many of Australia’s free settlers entered through the Port of Maryborough between 1859 and 1901, he said. Maryborough captures this history in its beautifully restored buildings and streetscapes. The guided walking tour is a way of discovering the city’s unique character and historic sites over the course of an hour to an hour and a half. Cr Seymour said it was part of Council’s COVID Safe plans to progressively reopen attractions like the Bond Store and Story Bank seven days a week as restrictions eased and demand increased. We are able to open for longer as we are welcoming back more of our wonderful volunteers who help us deliver a fantastic visitor experience in Maryborough’s magic Portside Precinct, he said. The Bond Store Maryborough and the privately operated Maryborough Military and Colonial Museum allow visitors to step back in time and learn about our military and portside history, while the The Story Bank Maryborough showcases Maryborough’s unique link to Mary Poppins and the magic of storytelling. I encourage both residents and visitors to check out everything that is on offer at the Portside Precinct it really is a special place.
