24.01.2022 I just want to give a warning to everyone after receiving some very sad news earlier today about the death of a young dog we bred. Please be careful when using ...the Hothands (or similar brands) hand warmers/foot warmers that are air activated. The main active ingredient in these is iron powder & in an amount that is extremely toxic & potentially lethal to dogs & cats. Yes, there is a small warning "keep out of reach of children and pets" but until now we weren't aware just how dangerous they could be. However, this warning is only on the external packaging, not the packaging that the individual hand warmers are in. A family who bought a puppy from us towards the end of last year lost their young dog after he found one of these (it seems to have fallen out of a jacket pocket) & ate almost all of the hand warmer, including all of the contents. He managed to find this while his family were with him in the house, like a typical golden retriever he found a "treasure" & took it secretly. His family weren't aware anything was wrong until he vomited & then they found part of the chewed hand warmer. He received urgent vet treatment, staying at the emergency vet overnight. He seemed to improve, the vets thought maybe the iron hadn't been as potent as the hand warmer had been activated & it seemed he had been able to vomit up all the contents. The next day he was not his usual self & went back to the vets, and ended up in intensive care for treatment & monitoring. Sadly, he had sustained organ damage, he deteriorated through the night & died. His family are devastated & so are we. This has been a huge warning to us I would not want to hear of this happening to anyone else. Please, if you use these types of air activated hand warmers that you make sure they are kept where your dog (or cat) can't reach them. Also, when you dispose of them make sure it's somewhere animals can't get to. Personally, I don't think I'll have these in our house at all.

15.01.2022 Please note Rottweilers are more at risk to contracting this virus than most other breeds. Vaccinations alone does not guarantee 100% cover. Owners are obligate...d to be aware on how notoriously contagious parvovirus is for this breed. Please make sure your Rottweiler is up to date with vaccinations. Titre test if you're concerned. Do not take your young pups to dog parks where parvo is most likely to be living in the soil. Warmer weather/climates sees more cases of this virus. See more

13.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE THIS POST TO YOUR DOGGY FRIENDS......Last week two completely separate dogs ( unrelated and unbeknownst to each other) came in on consecutive days ...to a local emergency center both with an obstructed gastrointestinal tract. (Vomiting, not eating and very sick). Both had a foreign body lodged in their upper intestine. Both required major abdominal surgery to remove the obstruction. In both cases it was a $5 K-MART dog chew toy. Warn everyone out there. They are brittle, and somehow break, and dogs think it's a good idea to swallow them. The offending "Two Handled Tug Pet Toy" is pictured below. And in case you are wondering, our colleagues who saw these patients have contacted K-MART directly to remove them from their shelves....so lets hope they do. See more
