24.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all the Dog Mums out there!

18.01.2022 I see a lot of my lovely clients at the local shops. One told me today that her gorgeous dog has really settled down beautifully now that she is out of her teenage phase. Thankfully this person was wise enough to get some professional help to get her over the hump! So many dogs are given up for adoption when they become a bit of handful from around 6 months to 12 months of age. Seeing a qualified professional will help you survive!
17.01.2022 Fly your dog between Tasmania and the mainland. Fabulous news of a much safer way to transport pets. I think they'll be needing a bigger plane! Thank you Pawmobile
16.01.2022 Follow the ever changing road to an amazing dog! It's pretty simple when you know how & have someone to hold your paw along the way. NOTE: Learning takes time. There are no quick fixes in dog training.
16.01.2022 A heartwarming post from our friends at Funda Nenja in South Africa. Children learning compassion & kindness while teaching their pups with positive reinforcement methods.
14.01.2022 Corrections & punishment inhibit learning. They cause stress, confusion & diminish trust. Some trainers set dogs up to fail, just so they can punish them. Seek a trainer who can help with modern, fear free methods.
13.01.2022 All our current courses are booked out so if you are picking up a pup, grab a spot before they disappear. Please book online and if you would like more information, call office 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday. NEW DATES ARE NOW UP ON WEBSITE https://pawbehaviour.com.au/puppy-school/
12.01.2022 "The vibe" wouldn't stand up in court & neither will labelling a dog "dominant" when it comes to improving behaviour. In order to improve or change a dog's behaviour, we need to identify: Antecedent - what occurred before the pesky behaviour - guests arrived... Behaviour - what did the dog do - dog jumped on guests Consequence - what happened next - guests pat dog What is likely to happen in future is the dog will keep jumping on guests as the behaviour is reinforced with the pats. The dog is not trying to be "dominant" or control anyone or anything. The dog is simply jumping because it has been reinforced. We need to make changes! We need to stop allowing dogs to practice the behaviours we don't like! So, instead of labelling dogs, let's try to identify & describe what is really happening so we can make improvements!
11.01.2022 Another dog incident on the Spirit of Tasmania! This is a serious issue as there have been a lot of incidents with animals on this vessel. They really need to consider employing a dedicated animal care attendant. Losing animals is not good enough! "Last night I was on the spirit of Tasmania coming from Tasmania. I had put my dog in a kennel and checked it twice to make sure that the door was shut. I was woken up at midnight to one of the security guards telling me that she... had escaped and that had been trying to get her but had no luck. They would only let me look for an hour and I waited in the bar as they kept looking. They couldn’t find her, they didn’t raise any alarms when they were trying to get people to disembark or check their cars as they seem to think that she might of jumped in the Utes or trailers. I was there up until midday refusing to leave as they said she just vanished they check their limited cameras that they had on the dock/boat they don’t have cameras facing the kennels. I’m hoping someone has found her and that she is in the pound but I won’t know until tomorrow. We were moving from Tasmania to tweed heads and she is my best friend and I just want her back. Not knowing if she’s Dead or alive is killing me. Please help." - Holly Alexander Facebook
05.01.2022 More evidence to support fear free methods! Consequently, we were working with dogs with similar issues with recall, as opposed to having ‘easier’ dogs in the control treatments and the more challenging dogs in the e-collar group, Prof. Cooper explained. Linda Lombardi wrote about a recent study comparing electronic collars vs positive reinforcement in dog training for Fear Free Pets
02.01.2022 Puppies are baby learners! It will take them time to learn what you want. So many people have the bar set way too high! Training a new pup takes time, patience & a few years. You will not have a perfect dog in a few weeks. Dogs are learning 24/7 from you, their environment & every experience they have. Please take the time to learn some new skills in training & raise that puppy to be the best dog ever! It's really disheartening to see people underestimate the value of en...gaging a well qualified trainer. They pay $$$ thousands for pups but undervalue the worth of a great trainer. Yes, there are lots of trainers, but only very few really good ones. That's why their classes are always full. Bad dog trainers are a dime a dozen. We are doing our best, but resources are limited. If you are serious about getting a place in one of our groups, book early via our website. New groups are posted regularly. Be kind! Be thoughtful! Be understanding! Yes, you can share our posts
