20.01.2022 If cats are obligate carnivores, why do they eat grass? It is not uncommon for a domestic cat to crave plant matter such as grass from time to time. Both wild cats and domestic cats eat grass to induce vomiting which acts as a cleansing process. Sometimes cats will eat the new shoots of grass as they serve as roughage and act as a digestive aid. It is the newer shoots that have the thinner cellulose walls which a cat can digest efficiently As well as a cleanser and ...digestive aid, cat grass is a good source of vegetable matter and micronutrients and serves as a good source of fibre in the diet Your domestic feline should always have access to cat grass which you can purchase from most plant nurseries or you can grow your own too! If your cat has the freedom of the outdoors, ensure the grass they have access to in your garden hasn’t been sprayed with harsh chemicals. . . . . . . #ilovecats #lovecats #gingercats #gingercatsofinstagram #gingercatsrule #plantpower #foodismedicine #catgrass #healingfoods #healthandwellness #animalnutrition #petnutrition #healthycats #rawfedcat #rawfeeder #rawfeedingaustralia #catoftgeday #catofthedaystagram #catslovings #australiasbestcats #australiancatsofinstagram #cathub #catsarecarnivores #rawfoodforcats #petnutritionist #foodforcats #catsofaustralia #catsofmelbourne #happypets #healthypets See more

19.01.2022 Starting your kitten on a raw food diet, especially raw bones, can be particularly daunting if you don’t know how. So I always recommend working with a trained pet nutritionist or a holistic vet in favour of raw feeding. We definitely need more of those in Australia! I often get queries from pet owners asking me when the best time is to start their kitten on a raw food diet. Kittens actually commence the weaning process from about 3-4 weeks, and it is from this age that t...heir little digestive systems are capable of handling solid foods, and a great time to introduce raw food. However, they still need to have access to mums milk until around the age of 8 weeks. The reality is, we are only responsible for our kittens food when we adopt them from around the age of 8-10 weeks. It can be a real challenge if you don’t introduce raw food the right way, especially raw bones which are super important for growing kittens. So when it comes to feeding raw bones to your kitten, chicken necks are perfect! They need to be very fresh and slightly crushed with a meat cleaver. This process will make the bones easy to chew and will expose some of the meat beneath the flesh, creating a further interest in the bone. The bones can be prepared this way until your kitten is used to the taste, smell and consistency. For fussy kittens, mincing the raw bones initially is another way of gradually introducing the taste of bones. It is beneficial to get your kitten onto a raw food diet as soon as you bring them home, but it is never too late. Sometimes a transition diet may not be necessary, depending on the age of your kitten . . . . #kittensofinstagram #iloveblackcats #rawfedpets #blueeyedcats #catnutrition #felinenutrition #rawfedcats #rawforcats #rawforkittens #petnutrition #rawfeedersofinstagram #feedfresh #rawfeed #feedraw #barfdiet #speciesappropriate #naturalcat #healthycat #healthykitten #holisticcat #rawbones #healthypets #happypets #carnivorecat #catsarecarnivores #cathub #feedrealfood #catsarepawsome #rawfeeder #rawfeedingcats See more

11.01.2022 Who doesn’t love a scrumptious puppy . When you bring home your gorgeous furry bundle of joy, you want to give them the best start in life, and here are a few tips: A puppy should be a fed a wide variety of raw foods to ensure they are receiving all the nutrients required for growth. Foods that are high in protein, fats, vitamins and minerals such as raw meaty bones, raw vegetables and fruit, muscle meat as well as a range of natural food additions to enhance the diet. Yo...u can achieve this with a BARF diet. The more variety offered, the healthier the puppy will be in adult life I can’t stress enough how important raw meaty bones need to form part of the diet for a growing pup. My personal favourite is chicken necks and wings for small to medium pups and chicken carcasses for larger puppies. Raw chicken bones supply every important mineral to support puppies growing bones. Raw meaty bones should be the only natural source of calcium for a pup. The calcium in raw bones is up to 4 times more digestible than the synthetic kind (commonly found in kibble & canned foods) and the cartilage, bone marrow and other minerals such as boron are excellent for bone and joint health. A puppy should also be quite lean during the growth stage. As alarming as it may seem, a roly-poly puppy is a sign that he/ she is growing rapidly. Any excess food that the puppy eats will be used for growth and not for energy stores. For this reason, a lean puppy (never starving or underweight) has a better chance of becoming a disease free healthy adult dog. Don’t overthink and don’t over plan! When it comes to raising a puppy, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming, hard work, expensive or perfect. If you apply common sense and follow the rules of Mother nature, you can’t get it wrong! . . . . . . #healingfoods #healthandwellness #rawfeddogsofinstagram #holisticdogfood #rawfeedingdogs #rawfeedingfordogs #rawfeeddog #rawfeeder #rawfeedingaustralia #thedogist #thedogistpuppies #rawfedpuppies #rawfedpuppiesofinstagram #kingcharlescavalierspaniel #kingcharlespuppy #puppiesinstagram #australiadogs #dogsaustralia #rawfed #rawfoodfordogs #foodfordogs #dogsofaustralia #dogsofmelbourne See more
