25.01.2022 Puppy Alert !!!!! Also, introducing two other puppies into the Pawsitive Hq crew. Maraj (12 weeks old Jack Russell) had her first session with me last week. She had no fear this pup and went in straight to say 'Hello' to Layla. She still has to learn the some manners around greeting bigger dogs and also not chewing on her humans arms and legs.... Hulk (9 weeks old Saint Bernard) who is just the biggest teddy bear and was a lot more careful about approaching Layla but once he realised she's okay he couldn't help himself and want more of her attention. He was pretty eager to learn and get lots of pats and attention from his humans. Can't wait to see how they progress on their journey

24.01.2022 Morning Pack Walk - A beautiful start to a Sunday morning with a bunch of awesome doggos. This was our first walk together with dogs who were at different levels of obedience but we're listening extremely well. I've been meaning to run some group sessions for a while and I'm pleased to announce that we had our first trial group session this morning and it went awesome. Group sessions are a great way to socialise your dogs in a safe and controlled environment. It is a great... opportunity for our dogs to learn and practise critical good manners and behaviours that can transferred from home to outside scenarios such as this. I was super proud of all the dogs and their hoo-mans who were able to put their dogs in a 'drop step away' confidently amongst other dogs they've never met before. Keep up the good work #dogsofdarwin #dogsofinstaworld #packwalks #dogs #darwindogsofinstagram

23.01.2022 I had my 2nd session with Nouka (Maltese x Shitzu 10 months old) who is a sweet but cheeky little pup. Her family needs a little bit of help teaching her to be a bit more calmer around new people and dogs. In our first session she was a bit overwhelmed with meeting Layla and me in her new apartment for the first time and she wasn't very happy. But with a bit of guidance and assurance from her family she quickly picked up on the good behaviors. In our second session there ...was already a little bit of improvement in her behaviour around us and she also didn't mind that I gave her a pat (she's a bit unsure of new people) and the other dogs in the house. Her family and Nouka have taken well to the methods of training and putting it into practise with her. Keep up the good work

23.01.2022 My girl is never too far away. Layla turned 7 last month and she's just starting to show her age. She loves chasing the ball and we could be there an hour and that wouldn't be enough. Today we threw the ball for about 15 mins and she had had enough. She is truly an amazing dog and we share an amazing bond of trust that built up through training over the years #germanshepherd #dogs #companionforlife #darwindogs #gsdsofinstagram #gsdphotos

22.01.2022 People often ask how my dogs are so well behaved, in particular Layla. It's no different to how you got good at a sport, instrument or language. I practiced with her regularly, consistently over time. It's not realistic to assume we all have next level discipline where we don't miss a day. However, couple times a week, even if it's 10 minutes. Even when you watch TV, you could practice some drop steps away so you can emulate that same exercise at a Cafe or at a picnic out in ...public. All your friends will then be asking you the same question. "how did you get your dogs to be so well behaved?", which you will respond "with practice and some consistency!" Good night!

22.01.2022 Happy Hump Day Everybody! I had a session with Atlas 2 weeks ago (9 month old Rottweiler) and his progress has been nothing short of amazing. He has learnt to hold his drop while being distracted by the resident chickens, which is super amazing. We thought him an 'invisible boundary' which is to show him where he is not allowed to enter... and your tones are a big part of the process and I was pleasantly surprised as it took him only one go to get that!... This would not be possible without the trust and consistency being built between their handlers and Atlas. Keep up the good work fam !!!

21.01.2022 Delayed post I had my last training session a couple of weeks ago with Tucker (3 year old Wolfhound x) who has come such a long way from when we first started. We had to work on teaching him to control him impulses around other dogs and his little human as he is a much larger dog who gets excitable pretty quickly and could knock them over.... In this video, Tucker is practising his 'Drop Step Away Skills' under a lot of distractions and doing such an amazing job. He still has a long road ahead of him but now his fam has the tools to help steer him into the right direction. Keep it up fam

21.01.2022 I had my 2nd session with these two adorable youngsters Ted (Poodle x Golden Retriever 1 year old) & Lenny (Poodle x Labrador 5 months old) The boys needed a little bit of guidance around puppy behaviour in and outside the house and took to training easier than expected. Ted being slightly older was a little bit apprehensive at the start but quickly picked up the exercises along with his not so little brother. ... Looking forward to our session today

20.01.2022 Charlie (Border Collie) has come such a long way from when we first started on this journey. This is her and Layla just casually doing a drop on the beach with a lot of distraction around them. Charlie and her handlers are doing an amazing job keeping up with the training and getting her to where she is now. We couldn't be more proud of them!!! Keep up the good work

20.01.2022 I had an amazing training session with Hannah and her dogs on Sunday. I will tell you why..... . Let me introduce you to the the dogs in the photo - from left to right we have, Quinton (Labrador 2 years old), Rosie (Shepherd x 12 years old), Roxy (Labrador 8 years old) & Layla (German Shepherd 7 years old) This is my 2nd session with Mr. Handsome (Quinton) who just needed a bit of fine tuning with his manners around other dogs. At times, he can be quite rambunctious. Roxy ...is just a gentle girl who just wanted cuddles and pats the whole time and enjoyed our company. However, the dog that blew me away this session was 12 year old Rosie who hasn't had the best start to life but has been with her new family for the last 4 years. She has come a long way since then - however developed a lot of anxiety over the years. But on this day she decided she wanted to join us and she let us know by barking in a high pitch voice. I decided to let her be around us and it took about 10 mins for her to stop barking and start to calm down. We then proceeded to put her in a drop with the rest of the dogs and it took a few attempts but being a Shepherd it didn't take her long to understand what we were asking of her. She just blew me away! A video is coming up shortly of the ball being thrown around to distract them while their in a drop and none of them moved. Just incredible ... she even surprised her family

19.01.2022 Delayed post.... The Pawsitive Dog crew had a pack walk a few weeks ago as there were a few puppies amongst the mix. From left to right we have Whiskey (7 months German Shepherd), Neo (8 years old Greyhound), Layla (7.5 years old German Shepherd), Odess (9 years old Papillon), Nouka (15 months old Maltese x), Bonnie (8 weeks old White Swiss Shepherd) & Wally ( 3 years old White Swiss Shepherd).... All the dogs were quite pooped after a walk in the Darwin heat but the main idea behind the walk was to get them interacting and socialsing in a calm and secure environment

19.01.2022 I had my 3rd session with Charlie (1.5 year old Border Collie) yesterday. Layla is unwell and as you can see I had to take Odess to demonstrate a gateway boundary and also utilize him as a distraction. Charlie isn't too fond of dogs so we're also teaching her to be accepting of dogs in her yard. She's doing well so far as we had Layla in there a couple of weeks ago. She also learnt the 'drop step away' as you can see in the 2nd photo and although she wasn't too sure of Odess close her handlers did a great job reassuring her through the tones of voice. Keep it up

18.01.2022 We had our first session with Mr. Atlas ( 7 months old Rottweiler) who weighs in at 41kgs... a big puppy. Being such a big fella Atlas has learnt to use his weight and pull his family while walking on the lead. He also needs to learn boundaries towards other dogs and people as he can be quite pushy and dominant. In our first session Atlas learnt that can walk calmly beside his family and enjoy the walk with them. We also worked on teaching him to understand certain behaviours (grabbing clothes off the line, chewing household items) and boundaries around the house. He wasn't too keen but followed our lead and did what we asked of him which is a great start. With some leadership, trust and consistency he's going to be a great pupper.

17.01.2022 Tonight might be Boss's last night with us as his fam has organized for him to be closer to them. So he's leaving for Alice tomorrow... it's going to be extremely hard for me and the fam to say bye to him. He was just a pleasure to have "drool and all". We got quite attached to each other over the time he's been here. I would leave him for all about 5 mins and the minute I'm back he's just jumping for joy like I'd been gone forever. I am going to try and not let the waterworks out until he's outta sight. We love ya Boss and hopefully this won't be the last time I'll see you

16.01.2022 Delayed Post... We had little Meelo (7 years old Chihuahua) stay with us 2 weekends ago. He was a little apphrensive at first but quickly realised he has already been with us before. Ari loves dogs but tiny dogs more so... when this little man jumped on his lap he was super happy that he recognized him.... Meelo will be staying with us over this weekend too Happy Friday everyone

16.01.2022 Got a full weekend of empowering families so they have the skills, knowledge and confidence to ensure everybody can enjoy a good quality of life well into the future.. Why is it important to have your doggy's under your guidance? Note this is not an exhaustive list.. ... - Your dogs wont burst out of the front door when you get home from a day or evening outside. It protects not only your dogs, but you as well. I've had clients have their feet taken out under them from powerful breeds. I've also unfortunately heard stories of dogs getting hit by vehicles on main roads too - You can take your dogs with you to cafe's and restaurants and they will chill patiently so other humans don't get frustrated. Unfortunately not everybody is accepting as us dog lovers - Going on pack walks is so much more enjoyable. Instead of your dog pulling you the whole way, which may I say poses its own risks, particularly if you are at the age where recovering from injuries is not as easy as it used to be, you will definitely all have a more enjoyable walk or run. - You can show off to your family and friends when you have guests over, especially if you have friends who are a bit unsure of dogs. You can have your doggo's in a drop in the house so they don't have to be necessarily separated from the party! One of my hubby's best friends really struggled with dogs, but because Layla was so well trained, she just respected his personal space and followed my guidance on that - Recalling your dogs is also a really useful skill to develop. This takes some time and practice but at any moment if I see a risk ahead, I can call my dogs back and they will come running back to me. They know they will get plenty of cuddles for it too! - Your relationship actually strengthens as your doggo's trusts you completely. It really is an amazing thing. - Final point (for today at least) is going to the VET is so much easier! Layla and Odess have complete trust in me. When the VET is getting close to uncomfortable areas, they both look at me for assurance. I will reassure them, and they know full well they can relax and just concentrate on getting through the appointment as best they can.... I truly believe that rules, training and boundaries is a form of love. Through rules, boundaries and training, I know my dogs are safe, and I can mitigate risks outside in the community so they can all live their best life!

15.01.2022 I had my first session with the handsome Mr. Arlo (5 years old wolfhound x) who reminds me so much of a dog that I fostered a few years back. The main aim of the sessions is to ensure that Arlo is calm and relaxed around other dogs and listens to his new handlers. He seems like a lovely dog who just needs some guidance in certain areas of his life. His handlers are excited and on board with making a positive change with him by creating a relationship based on leadership, trust and consistency. Can't wait to empower them next week

15.01.2022 Loki ( Mastiff x 18 months old) has exceeded my expectations. He's such a quick learner and just wants to please his owners. In this exercise, he's learning to return and release the toy with the 'Give' command. He's just a smart little cookie

14.01.2022 Since y'all humans don't need the couch, we might as well occupy it #dogsdomain #lovedogs #doghouse #cats_of_instagram #dogswholovecats

13.01.2022 Here's the video of all the 4 dogs holding their drop while their humans play a game of pass the ball. Quinton who is the youngest and easily distracted held his drop like a pro. However, Rosie was the star of the evening. She surprised us all... who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I felt really special to be in her presence and for her to take to the exercises that all the younger dogs were doing with ease was a sight to see

12.01.2022 What's up with animals and boxes?

12.01.2022 The Pawsitive crew had a very eventful day on Monday with a group full of doggos in training. We started the day by just hanging out with Savannah (2 years old Koolie) & her human Scott. She had an incident a few weeks ago where she unfortunately got attacked and injured by a dog on an off lead dog beach and suffered some injuries. She has recovered amazingly but I thought we could boost her confidence up (and also we just wanted to hang because she was awesome and did so...me super cool tricks) by meeting my two doggos. Secondly, I had a session booked in with the gorgeous Roxy (7 years old Labrador) & the stud muffin Quinton (2 years old Labrador). The park worked out well as we needed to work on Quinn's impulse control when meeting other dogs. Thirdly, I had another session booked in with the little cutie Nouka (12 months old Maltese x) who is more nervous and unsure and reacts by barking at other dogs and people who come in her and her humans space. However, 2nd session in we taught her the 'Drop Step Away' and she held her own amongst all the older doggos. As the day progessed everyone decided to stay a bit longer and it turned out to be great opportunity for a group session with the whole lot. There's a short video coming up soon of Nouka's brother Neo (Greyhound) who helped us along with the training. Hope everyones having a good weekend

12.01.2022 Pawsitive HQ had these two beautiful girls stay over for a few nights while their fam had a much needed mini vacation. Ruby & Nevie weren't too sure at the start as this was their first time being away from the fam but as the day progressed they relaxed a bit more. My little human helper made it possible to go on walks with this beautiful bunch. Hope everyone's had a good weekend

11.01.2022 Real and authentic video. Wasn't aware hubby was filming as I was still in my Pjs and about to clean. Love this big fella Ps: I think I have to take away admin rights from Mr. Hubby

10.01.2022 Boss is all set to to go and see his owners in Alice Springs. Good luck big fella - the Pawsitive Dog crew is gonna miss ya

10.01.2022 I had my last session with Jazz (8 months old Kelpie x) at a cafe today. Mitch & Luka have come such a long way with Jazz it's truly beautiful to see. Mitch's relationship with Jazz improved through the whole process which was great to see as well. We went for a walk along the foreshore and put the dogs in a drop while there were cycles, dogs and people jogging or walking past and she held her drop which was amazing. The dogs got complemented by passerbys saying they were such well behaved dogs. It was a truly beautiful day and an awesome way to end our last session. Good luck Jazzy and hopefully your sister Piper will jump on the training wagon too

09.01.2022 So true... All the best for the new week!

09.01.2022 Pawsitive HQ held their first puppy session yesterday and it went really well. They got along really well and it was great for them to socialise amongst each other. In this session we learnt the 'sit' and 'sit step away (Stay)' using the tones of voice and getting them to pay attention to you rather than the distractions around them. ... All 3 of them showed excellent progress with the help of their humans. Keep practising throughout the week and they'll keep getting better

08.01.2022 It has been a busy few weeks... Thank you to all my amazing packs who have trusted me in strengthening their relationships with their pups. No dog is the same in terms of temperament, however, the more consistent you are in and outside the home, the quicker results come. I bring Layla to all my sessions because I want to show people what is possible. To mentor others, it is expected to have my own pup trained at a high level which gives me a level of credibility. ... Layla's manners and boundaries did not happen overnight. I promise you, it took lots of practice, frustration, and patience. In the end though, I can quite literally take Layla to parks, restaurants, cafe's, friend's houses, and more! In the first frame, we've got Ruby & Nevie along with Layla & Odess practising their 'Sit Step Away (Stay)' command really well while their human takes a jog through. In the second frame, we have Quinton the lab practising his listening skills with a big distraction in front of him aka 'A delicious treat'. He is so close to it but the eye contact he has with his handler is incredible... and for that the end he gets the treat. In the third frame, we have Ruby & Nevie again practising their drops while their family entices them with a game of ball. Their concentration levels were amazing and they were rewarded with big pats and cuddles. In the fourth frame, we have Loki the wonder dog working with his handler to be a bit more comfortable with the idea of having another dog within close range and also his handler having another dog. As you can see he has progressed leaps and bounds ... couldn't be prouder of all 3 of them. Lastly, in the fifth frame, we have Atlas who did so well for his 2nd lesson. As you can see we upped the distractions by having the ball thrown around and his human siblings helped as well. He did a great job concentrating on his handler and practising the 'Sit Step Away (Stay)' command. There is light is at the end of the tunnel no matter how long it takes to get there! We all learn at different rates. Positive attitude and don't give up - it will be well worth it!

08.01.2022 Welcome Loki (18 months Mastiff x) into Pawsitive HQ. He is a stunning pupper. We had our 2nd session with Loki last week. I am so proud of his handlers and Loki as the change in his demeanor was phenomenal. The first week I bought Layla into his space he was not too happy her being there and that was quite evident. However, we worked through that behaviour to get him to understand what is acceptable and what isn't.... The second week he still wasn't too keen but tolerated her presence which showed the progress of work put into training during the week. Loki has taken to training like a duck to water... incredible. He learnt a lot of new exercises and even surprised us with how well he was paying attention. I can't wait to dive into more training techniques with him and the fam and help them on their journey

07.01.2022 Solid weekend of training family packs. Everybody is working really hard. Really positive to see. Remember, you get out what you put in! With consistency, you are setting your pack up for long term benefits that you can enjoy for many years! Push your mind and do your best to stick with the exercise routines, boundaries and rules within the home and outside the home. All the best during the week and see many of you next weekend!!!!

07.01.2022 Everyone meet Kobi (Irish wolfhound x 9 weeks old) isn't he a cutie. He was 1 of 10 puppies rescued by RSPCA along with his mum and now has a lovely home with a young family. He's quite lucky as his dad's a professional groomer so he's always going to look his best . I had my first session with him to teach him some basic manners (nipping, chewing, being gentle around the baby) along with crate training which will help them with toilet training and also settle him throug...h the night. We had instant progress with Kobi who took to the crate nicely and didn't have any accidents through the night which is a great start!!! Can't wait to see him progress along with his family

07.01.2022 Nouka (13 months old Maltese x) and I had our last session together a couple of weeks ago at the park. Nouka and her fam have come such a long way since we started. This little doggie held her drop while the other dogs distracted her by being off lead at the park and she kept her cool and listened to her humans... amazing!!! Her humans were quite surprised and happy to see her progress. She has become a much more confident dog. They are also able to help and guide her in s...ituations she's not sure off which has helped build their relationship. Keep it up fam bam!!! Ps - We brought along a cute distraction (Wally - White Swiss Shepherd)

07.01.2022 I had my last session with Loki & fam yesterday. This handsome fella has come leaps and bounds in the 2 months that I've known him. He couldn't have gotten to where he is today without the dedication and effort his humans have put in him. I cannot wait to see his progress in the months to come. Thank you for believing and trusting me throughout this process ... #darwinaustralia #dogs #greatdanex #dogs_of_instagram #dogsintraining #rescuedogsofinstagram @ Darwin, Northern Territory See more

05.01.2022 In this video Loki ( Mastiff x) is learning a crucial exercise that can be used in day to day life called the 'drop position'. It teaches your dog to be in a relaxed position and enjoy the moment. It also teaches him to control his impulses and trust his handler while there are distractions around. Loki is still getting used to the idea of having a dog he's not familiar with in his yard. But as you can see in this video he trusts his handler and when he does make the mistak...e of getting up off the 'drop' position he gets a gentle correction. He is then put back into the drop position but also gets a pat on the back to say, you made a mistake but let's try that again. We always end on a positive note which is cuddles and pats at the end of the exercise and that's the reward their working for. He is learning at an exceptional rate and I can't wait to get into some more exercises the fam

05.01.2022 Meelo (Chihuahua) is staying with us @ Pawsitive HQ for the long weekend. He's a little bit unsure of us as we haven't seen each other in a long time but he's slowly creeping closer as the day progress. Happy to have the little fella with us

04.01.2022 Puppy Alerts!! Little Astro ( 9 weeks old Rottweiler) has just joined the Pawsitive HQ crew. We had our 1st training session last week and is already showing great listening skills. His family already has prior knowledge of the training technique so teaching him will be an easier process. He's got chooks who live with him in his yard, So, teaching him to be respectful of them from this age will help him get desensitized to them floating around. ... Isn't he a cutie

04.01.2022 Caspian and Boss share an adorable moment together!!! Love to see the two of them bond and see my cat be so relaxed around him

03.01.2022 Boss enjoying the view - #doguedebordeaux #frenchmastiff #doguedebordeauxlovers #mastiffsofinstagram #dogstagram

03.01.2022 I had my 2nd session with these 2 beautiful girls Ruby (German shepherd x Kelpie 18 months) & Nevie (Heeler x 15 months). Being working breeds they only needed a little encouragement to get them to start working for us. Nevie wasn't too sure about listening in the beginning but soon realised the REWARD is getting BIG pats and lots of cuddles. The encouragement and love changed her and she was eager to sit after she realised all the love that went her way haha Both the gi...rls have a little bit of anxiety but in different situations which is what we'll be working on in the following weeks. Ruby is a bit unsure and anxious when their out in public whereas Nevie doesn't like to be left inside when her human is outside. However, their family are doing a great job keeping up the practice at home so there is consistency throughout. Keep it up

03.01.2022 Welcome Jazz (7 months old Kelpie x) into Pawstive HQ. I have the pleasure of working with her and her handlers every week. This was our 3rd week and she's just an amazing little dog. She's picked up all the obedience exercises with ease. This lesson we were teaching her to drop away from her handlers and distracting her but as you can see she was concentrating

03.01.2022 I had my last session with these beautiful boys Ted & Lenny. The boys definitely challenged their family but they didn't give up and followed through with the exercises. Lenny still being only 6 months didn't put up too much of a fight and was quite happy to learn as his young handler went through the lessons. However, Ted ( 1 year old ) was a little bit defiant and pushed the boundaries a bit more especially when he was off lead. They still have a long way to go but I'm sure their family will continue with all they've learnt

03.01.2022 I had my second session with Atlas (7 1/2 months old Rottweiler) last week and he's getting a lot better at listening and working through distractions. In the next upload I'll put a video up of him learning the 'Sit Step Away (Stay)' command while his little humans distract him. He did an awesome job This is him at the end of the session in the pool cooling off... he seems pretty comfortable

03.01.2022 Jazz (8 months old Kelpie) is working on her long drop step away with multiple distractions as you'll see in the video. She got distracted but all it took is one correction (gentle circle) and we reset the scenario and she got it Why is this skill important ? 1. To ensure your dogs safety (if you have the front door/side gate/car door open) 2. To leave guests at ease who are not confident with dogs.... 3. To be able to go to coffee shops/functions and your dog is able to hold a drop with distractions around. 4. It's a good mental stimulation as it's a relaxed position for the dog to be in 5. It builds on your trust between you and your family pet See more

02.01.2022 I had my 2nd session with Arlo (5 year old Wolfhound x) and decided to get into some behaviour shaping exercises. He wasn't too keen at the start but as you can see he was fully focused on the exercise. The best part was seeing him being excited after doing the exercise and getting heaps of pats and praise for it. He was completely pooped after the session

01.01.2022 We had our first session with Tucker (3 year old Staghound x Wolfhound) last week. Tucker needs some guidance around walking on the lead as he's quite a strong dog and can definitely pull his owners around. He's going to have a new human sibling around and they want him to walk nicely and calmly while they've got the pram out. He also needs to learn to be a bit more calmer around people when they come into the house as his bark is quite loud although he means no harm... his excitment gets the better of him. I spoke to his owner Sam who said he's being doing much better on walks. Being in early days he's still heaps of learning to do but he's a smart fella who I'm sure is going to pick up the exercises in no time
