17.01.2022 OKAY gonna hit you with some real talk real quick. This needs to go viral so EVERY dog owner understands. DANGERS OF WALKING YOUR DOGS IN PUBLIC PARKS AND D...OG PARKS Aggressionin small dogs should be taken as seriously as aggression inbig dogs. LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK AGGRESSION.IN.SMALL.DOGS. IS. STILL. AGGRESSION. Some back story for those of you playing at home: I live behind a huge nature reserve, its partly on-lead and part of it is off-lead. It's fantastic and I take my dog running there almost every day. Tonight when we were jogging we did go through the off-lead area, however I keep Hunter on lead because I don't trust other people, and lucky I did. We were minding our own business and then slowed to a walk as we were approached by a Chihuahua and maltese CHARGING towards us at full speed snarling and barking. How dare we enter THEIR park? The owners took a look at us and simply turned around when they heard the snarls and then continued to talk to one another. Me: EXCUSE ME ARE THESE YOUR DOGS? them: yeah? Me: well can you get them under control please, can't you hear how their barking and snarling is aggressive and not friendly?? Them: yeah but they wouldn't dare follow through with anything though SINCE WHEN DOES THAT EVEN MATTER?? Two dogs are snarling and jumping at my dogs face, oh but don't worry they wont bite?? Unacceptable. You bet your ass I'm going to stand up for my dog because he weighs 38kg more than them and if i don't step in to stop it, maybe he will defend himself. Me: do you think it would be okay if my 40kg dog ran up to you, your kid or your dogs like that?? Or is that not okay now because he's big?? By this point her dog was nipping at Hunters bum and she STRUGGLED to get a hold of her 2kg Chihuahua . Again, it is NOT ACCEPTABLE to have an asshole dog if you're going to allow it to run up to other dogs and reinforce its reactivity. I understand if your dog is reactive and they're on lead, fine!!! Everyone's allowed to walk. These dogs were SO LUCKY that Hunter didn't turn around and bite them back because his jaw was bigger than their entire bodies. I can only credit his calm response to intense obedience training and the fact that I stood in so he didnt have to. Advocate for your dogs people!! Call out shit behaviour. ALL dogs have a right to be there, all dogs and people have the right to safety in public parks but you really have to earn the right to have your dog off-lead. Pic taken once we got far enough away from the reactive little dogs and he was rewarded for calm behaviour with some off lead sniffing. end rant.

16.01.2022 I'm a terrible dog owner for forgetting to post this but we celebrated Hunter's 4 year adoption anniversary and him turning roughly 5 years old. When I adopted... Hunter, he came with a different name, it was a terrible name and didnt suit him at all. I changed his name to Hunter and we started a new life together. Hunter was more than a handful. His bad behaviours suggested he'd been locked in a backyard with no socialisation with other dogs and that he'd had scary or harmful experiences with men. He was terrified of men and would hide under anything or behind me to get away from them, it was heartbreaking. Fast forward 4 years with regular training including obedience, impulse control and confidence building, he's now an amazing well behaved dog. The training was SO difficult, I was only a fresh dog trainer at the time and I wanted to give up so many times and hand him back because he was TOO HARD to fix. I persevered and am so thankful that I did, he's the most loyal cheeky best friend I could ever ask for. It sucks that he had a rough start at life but im so thankful that he ended up in my life. Thank you German Shepherd Rescue Victoria for uniting us.

15.01.2022 Harnesses are for sports and car safety! It helps evenly distribute the pressure when pulled on, making pulling as comfortable as possible. This is why we do NOT use them for walking. ...

07.01.2022 GUESS WHAT!! After a long hiatus from one-on-one dog training, i'm back! And to start things off we have ROCKY! A gorgeous 8 month old entire male Rottweiler who was recently re-homed. ... Rocky is doing weekly training and his amazing family are working hard to ensure Rocky is a well behaved boy! Rocky was initially terrified of the dog house and wouldn't step foot in it, as well as having typical boisterous adolescent dog behaviour. We've been working on impulse control and have gotten Rocky from being scared of the dog house, to completely comfortable and confident in it. SHOW ROCKY SOME LOVE

05.01.2022 I had people in my house today helping me move out furniture and equipment. It was noisy and intimidating for Hunter who can be nervous and shy around men, especially tall ones. After maybe 30 minutes I stopped and wondered where Hunter had gone, he was being too quiet.... I looked around and found that he'd put himself in his crate, his safe place, even with boxes and mess stacked up around it, he was at peace in all the chaos. Another day to day situation that shows us why crate training is so vital. If you'd like more information on crate training Google search 'RSPCA crate training' and you'll find a great document.
