16.01.2022 COVID UPDATE: unfortunately due to the current lockdowns in Melbourne Mt Baw Baw has decided to close midweek and only open on weekends if there is sufficient n...atural snow cover. Snow machines have all been turned off. We have had to make the difficult decision to close both WF Waters and SAAC and send our lodge managers home. We know this is disappointing news but we simply cannot afford to keep the lodges running with only income from regional Victoria. If anything changes after the lockdown, we will keep you posted but it is unlikely the resort will reopen this season Thankyou to everyone who has supported us so far and those who we know will be ready and willing to support us over the summer and next winter as we can reopen. Caroline Mann Bookings Officer WF Waters and SAAC

14.01.2022 These are probably the largest rocks Ive seen ripped up and stacked by ignorant people (its taken more than one person to lift these). We are East Gippsland working on threatened species that use rocks for shelter. This patch did not burn in the massive fires earlier this year, but nearby areas did. Wildlife could do without this type of vandalism as they try to persist in the face of ever-increasing threats. Dont stack rocks. Nick Clemann with Zak Atkins.

14.01.2022 These pics were taken this week, as our gates remain shut, and the park remains closed Who recognises these flowers? Can you name them? Are they all natives?... 13.01.2022 ROVER DEN RESCUE . Excellent observational and deduction skills leading to assertive action and dissemination of information to appropriate personnel up the proverbial tree has resulted in a dangerous tree situation being resolved in a timely manner. look around (situational awareness) don’t be shy (make the phone call, and maybe send pictures); better safe than sorry... it takes a team to get stuff done. use the right tool for the job. In this case, specialist help was required. This is NOT a job for mere mortals; not all tree situations can be solved from the ground. Well done to the @kulinrovers for reporting this to the #paxhillcommitteeofmanagement. Big thanks to @simpsontrees for jumping on board and making time to resolve this within hours. *Regional Commissioner for scale, not good for much else #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #safetyfirst #immediateaction #assertiveaction #chainsaw #traveltower #ewp #specialist #paxhill

08.01.2022 Where will you be JOTA-ing?

07.01.2022 From Scouts Vic: Scouts Victoria has offered facilities - but not campsites at this stage - to assist those affected by the current bushfire disaster. We have issued Emergency Management Victoria with a list of facilities that are available for people to stay. Thank you to our local members who have made this offer possible.... While our Scout camps are a logical location to house people who have been displaced, but many of our campsites are in bushfire-prone areas. The current situation is very dynamic with new fires starting, and unpredictable fire behaviour in unexpected locations. We have previously offered campsites when faced with less risky conditions, eg the 2014 Morwell fire, but we do not want to place people at risk by putting them into campsites which are difficult to evacuate if they are impacted by fire. At this time, we ask that members dont informally offer camping spots or indoor accommodation in our campsites. But providing halls in built up townships and defensible locations is OK if you are asked by the community. Scouts Victoria will make any facility available when asked by Local Government, Department of Human Services or Emergency Management Victoria. With terrible news emerging from East Gippsland, Victoria has a long road ahead - and this is only the start of a long and difficult season. Helping others is a core value of Scouting and Scouts will have a role to play in the recovery of the community. Our thoughts are with all those involved, especially our members who are involved in this emergency. This is also a timely reminder to register your Scouting activities away from home on our Out and About tool which you can view here. We need to know where you are. Yours in Scouting, Brendan Watson Chief Commissioner, Scouts Victoria

06.01.2022 Due to the Corona Virus Pandemic, we are unfortunately unable to operate our lodges as usual. Due to government restrictions, we have been forced to make change...s to how our ski lodges operate. Lodges have been locked to a maximum number of beds which is far lower than our normal capacity. All scouting, individual room and school group bookings must now be cancelled in line with government restrictions placed on all lodges across the Alpine Industry. Family and friend bookings can be made with restrictions on the number of guests. WF Waters will have a maximum of 20 guests able to book and stay in the lodge from a maximum of 7 households. The Scout Alpine Adventure Centre (SAAC) will be able to have a maximum of 18 guests from 6 households. Both lodges will have an onsite manager to ensure Covid 19 guidelines are followed. Whilst we understand many will be disappointed with this news, we are trying to make the best of a difficult situation which has resulted in many other lodges at Mt Baw Baw not being able to open at all. Caroline Mann Bookings Officer W.F. Waters and Scout Alpine Adventure Centre [email protected]

05.01.2022 Due to the ever changing situation we are all facing with the COVID19 lock down. For the safety of all our guests, and in compliance with social distancing guidelines, Pax Hill Activity Centre will be closing the gates effective immediately and will not be taking bookings between now and May 31st. We will be in contact with all current bookings. If you have any questions or enquiries, get in touch via email at [email protected] and we'll do our best to help you in these unprecedented times. The Team at Pax Hill wishes you all good health! Stay safe and stay home.

03.01.2022 Although closed to gatherings due to restrictions to slow the spread of Coronavirus, tree work continues, albeit at a reduced pace.

03.01.2022 The Pax Hill Committee of Management works closely with DELWP in managing the park.

03.01.2022 What’s that, Skip...? All sorts going on at Pax at the moment: wildflowers, weeds, and Bush kangaroos... ...who knows which plants are which?

02.01.2022 Action on the grounds maintenance front... Spring in Ballarat simply booms. From short, dark, cold days to daylight savings, more daylight, and ground temperatures rising, vegetation wakes up with a rush. Today’s effort by volunteers was mowing, slashing, blowing leafy detritus away from buildings, and sectioning big timber from the emergency tree removal on Monday.
