25.01.2022 Gracie is Jacob and Pennys mature cygnet, which decided to stay around the Foreshore Reserve after fledgling. 6th September 2020.

25.01.2022 Henry and Elizabeth have been very diligent with nesting duties. We expect the eggs will hatch any day now; they have eight eggs! 11th September 2020.

25.01.2022 Prince Siegfried and Odette had taken their new cygnets on the lake for feeding this afternoon. They returned to resume incubation of the remaining four eggs. While the last four eggs were laid later, the incubation is synchronised and all eggs usually hatch closely together. We will need to keep our fingers crossed over the next 24-hours and hope all cygnets hatch. 6th September 2020.

24.01.2022 A beautiful sunny day and Jacob is happy to be on nesting duties. Penny is close by at the waters edge cleaning and preening. 15th September 2020.

24.01.2022 Found Edward and Charlotte but sadly they have lost a cygnet (to either a predator or the weekend storm). We received 35 name selections for the cygnets and following a draw, you have named the new cygnets: Allegro, Ruby, Rook, and Sunny. Thank you for your interest and participation. 2nd September 2020.

21.01.2022 Edward and Charlottes wonderful new cygnet family are going well. We are delighted by the number of people visiting and watching over them. Edward and Charlotte are also keeping their cygnets in the vicinity of the boat ramp which is a reasonably sheltered spot. They are avoiding excursions on the open lake that can expose the cygnets to many types of vagaries. 26th August 2020.

21.01.2022 It was nice finding Gracie at a secluded spot past Sunset Cove. Gracie was on her own; we had hoped she would connect with a bevy of young swans. There are several in our area. 26th August 2020.

20.01.2022 It does not appear Prince Siegfried and Odettes remaining eggs will hatch. The couple has not fully given up, which is good. They have been leaving the nest routinely to feed their two young cygnets: Phoebe and Jet. Unfortunately, this exacerbates the incubation cycle further. 8th September 2020.

18.01.2022 The black swan couples are continuing nesting at Grassy Point, they have had some bad weather to contend with. 26th August 2020.

17.01.2022 It was fantastic to see one of Hercules and Zenas eggs hatch today. They still have four more eggs to hatch, hopefully within 24-hours. 7th September 2020.

16.01.2022 The nesting black swan couples at Grassy Point are progressing well. We expect more eggs will hatch soon. 31st August 2020.

16.01.2022 Edward and Charlottes five cygnets have now turned one-week-of-age. We usually like the cygnets to reach three weeks before considering naming them, but due to the overwhelming interest of the community, we have decided to seek your name selections for the new brood now. Should we receive over five name selections we will conduct a draw (as has been done in the past). There are no guidelines on cygnet names, many people like their childrens/favourite names. When we choose names for the mature black swans we have been guided by royal names, characters from literature and/or mythology. 29th August 2020.

15.01.2022 Hercules and Zena had an additional four cygnets hatch, now they have five cygnets! There is still one egg remaining in the nest, which they are still incubating. 9th September 2020.

11.01.2022 We reported on 29th August 2020 that Uranus and Hera from Grassy Point had five cygnets hatch. From the recent name selections provided by the community we had another draw and given the cygnets these names: Ash, Cherise, Emerald, Reed, and Sunny. Thank you for your name choices and participation. Today the family was found amongst the vessels at the Gippsland Lakes Yacht Club. 7th September 2020.

11.01.2022 It is a blustery day in Paynesville today. It was good to find Poseidon and Nemesis with their six cygnets: Cindy, Jazz, Legato, Lilly, Sparkles, and Topaz swimming and feeding in a sheltered area amongst the boats. The names given to the cygnets were from a draw of community name suggestions. 14th September 2020.

10.01.2022 Burrabogie Island has become a roosting site for over forty-two black swan couples. The most obvious reason is it is a good location next to the water and for food sourcing, providing quality aquatic vegetation. Many of the other roosting sites in proximity are either flooded or food sources have diminished. Black swans like being in a flock, especially the younger swans, for a number of reasons including social interaction. 24th August 2020.

09.01.2022 It has been over two weeks since we provided an update on Henry and Elizabeth. The couple are doing very well and we can expect the eggs to hatch very soon now. 24th August 2020.

08.01.2022 It was a delight to see Gracie (now just over six months of age) on the Foreshore Reserve today. She was very intent on being with a lovely couple with two young children. It was nice to see the interaction. 29th August 2020.

08.01.2022 After the storm, late yesterday and overnight, found Jacob and Penny at their nest at Progress Jetty. Jacob is manning the nest and Penny was nearby on the lake. Penny comes to shore when she sees us arrive. 31st August 2020.

07.01.2022 Heracles and Pandora with their new six cygnets at Sunset Cove. They were on the way to the extensive reed area at Newlands Arm. 4th September 2020.

07.01.2022 Another full clutch has hatched at Grassy Point. Poseidon and Nemesis have now had all their eggs hatch and they have six beautiful cygnets. 13th September 2020.

06.01.2022 Jacob was on the lake and came in to do a nesting swap over with Penny. The couple has removed one egg from the nest, they are able to determine the viability of the eggs. 11th September 2020.

05.01.2022 Predicted we would have some cygnets hatch from the Grassy Point crew and a delightful surprise today: Uranus and Hera have had five eggs hatch! They still have one egg that requires incubation, but there is a trade-off that needs to be made. The new cygnets need both parents to take them to water for feeding, meaning the final egg incubation is disrupted, or totally fails from this choice. 29th August 2020.

04.01.2022 Update on the black swan roosting site at Burrabogie Island. Since our report two-weeks back the number of swan couples has reduced from forty-two to twenty-eight. Once the eggs hatch and cygnets are capable the families move on. Amongst the images, you will find recently hatched cygnets. 8th September 2020.

04.01.2022 Heracles and Pandora with their new six cygnets at Sunset Cove.

03.01.2022 Edward and Charlotte with their five two-day-old cygnets.

02.01.2022 Venus is on the nest, with Apollo visible nearby on the lake. 26th August 2020.

02.01.2022 Penny was initially on the nest with Jacob close by. They did a routine change-over while we were present. 4th September 2020.

01.01.2022 Ulysses and Penelope are a new young black swan couple that recently established a nest in a central garden bed on the Foreshore Reserve.

01.01.2022 We were very pleased to find after six weeks of nesting Prince Siegfried and Odette have had two cygnets hatch. There were six eggs in the clutch and the next 24-hours will reveal how many more cygnets will hatch. This couple has had a turbulent time, on 10th April 2020 they had six cygnets hatch but none of them made it past three-weeks of age. On 13th July 2020, they had all their six eggs taken from the nest next to the wind-break. Later in July 2020 they returned and built the current new nest in the Garden Bed opposite the car park. 5th September 2020.
