23.01.2022 Stress is a natural response when we are placed under pressure or find ourselves in an unfamiliar situation. We all respond differently when placed in these situations and it is important that we recognise our feelings of stress and know that we can work through them. Learning how to cope with stress is an important skill for all teenagers to acquire. Reachout.com states that: ‘Coping’ describes any behaviour that is designed to manage the stresses and overwhelming feelings ...that come with tough situations. By learning positive coping strategies early in their teenage years, children develop lifelong skills, building up resilience and wellbeing that will stand them in good stead throughout their adult years. Reachout.com suggests the following nine tips for coping when faced with tough times. 1) Talk to someone 2) Journaling-writingdownyourfeelings,whatistroublingyouandwayswhich you can deal with the situation. 3) Be kind to yourself- eat well, exercise and try some meditation. 4) Take a break - give yourself permission to leave situations that make you stressed or angry. For example, leaving a stressful conversation and coming back to speak when you are calm and ready. 5) Use positive self-talk. 6) Take a step back - prioritise and leave time for leisure. 7) Think about the big picture- When you are going through a tough time, ask yourself. How important is this, will it matter in 5 years time? 8) Focus on the positives. 9) Practise gratitude - each day write down three things you are grateful for. At Pats’ we always encourage the boys to share their concerns and talk to someone they can trust. That person may be a parent, friend, teacher, counsellor, priest or sports coach. We want the young men of the College to know that they are supported, they are not alone and we are here to help. 23.01.2022 In this week's message our executive Director, Tony Farley, gives the first in a series of reflections based on our organisational values. This week our focus is excellence, and the opportunity it presents in everything we do, most particularly our work in and for schools.

23.01.2022 Year 9 WELLBEING FOCUS Term 3 Wk10 Almost every student that I speak with, wants to improve their circumstances. Many are aiming for more impressive marks, others hope for selection into a representative team, some wish to expand their talents or social circle. Recently, I had the pleasure of watching a group of talented but nervous students perform for the very first time in our Year Nine Assembly. I observed them grow from initial worry to eventual confidence. For these st...udents, doing something bold was a risk that paid off in spades. Their fine performance can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/8crFqrZ9BzU It made me wonder. We spend so much energy trying to avoid discomfort. When we feel uncomfortable, every instinct in our bodies tells us to make it stop. However, discomfort can lead to immense personal growth. After all, if you do the same thing today that you do every day, you are not growing. This isn’t to say you should be unsafe just a little uncomfortable. Here are some small risks you can take today that may help you grow: Try a new hobby. Do something you love, only trickier. Share something you created with someone. Ask questions you don’t know the answer to. Speak up if something contradicts your values. On a final note, it is with excitement and sadness that I wish to inform my Year 9 families that I start my maternity leave from Week 2, Term 4. Working with your sons has been a personal and professional highlight and I can honestly say that I will miss them greatly. They will be in excellent hands with Ms Georgina Fajloun stepping into the role of Leader of Wellbeing and Ms Melissa Khoury taking up the role of Assistant Leader of Wellbeing. Ms Fajloun has been our Assistant Leader of Wellbeing throughout 2020 and is a familiar face to our students and families. I know that she will cherish the opportunity to guide these fine young men throughout Year 10. Wishing you all a safe and restful holiday break, Mrs Angela Bennett Year 9 Leader of Wellbeing #year9wellbeing #patsfairfield #patricianbrotherscollege #patricianbrothersfairfield #pbcf #patricianbrothers #patricianbrotherscollegefairfield #college #school #education #student #students

22.01.2022 The Charitable Works Fund (CWF) is the fundraising arm which supports the charitable and pastoral activities of the Archdiocese of Sydney. On Wednesday (28/10) the College held a mufti day to support the CWF. The boys and their families chipped in very generously, showing that the Patrician tradition continues! This money will go a long way to help those in need. Thank you to all those who contributed.

19.01.2022 Archbishop’s Conference - Student Report. Please see the report below from Adrian Ryan (College Captain), Christian Finianos (Vice Captain), Antonious Tarrazi (Mission Prefect) and Andre Diodati (House Prefect) regarding the recent Archbishop's Conference that was held over Zoom. Mr Khanano and I would like to thank these fine young men for their participation and engagement in the Conference. Mr Thomas Kasunic ----------------------------... On Friday, 20th November, we represented the College at Archbishop Anthony Fisher’s student leadership conference via Zoom. The forum began with a reflection on the upcoming bicentennial of Catholic education in Australia and our calling as leaders to carry the torch lit by the strong, Christian leaders who built the schools we treasure today. His Grace then went on to discuss Pope Francis’ recent encyclical Fratelli Tutti and the implications that the central theme of brotherhood has on us as leaders. He drew on the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), using the insight of the early Church Father, Origen. This reflection presented to us a unique perspective on the Parable where Origen suggests that the wounded man on the road is us, the man who has left his safe place, his Garden of Eden, his Jerusalem and is in need of the love of Christ. Christ wills that this love be spread to all people, regardless of their background. We, as our College’s student leaders, want to be instruments of Christ and spread His love. We are very appreciative of this opportunity from the Archbishop and hope to carry his insights into our roles at the College. 19.01.2022 As we head towards the end of the term I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the boys on their maturity and sense of occasion in relation to the end of Semester exams that were sat recently. It was wonderful to hear the positive comments from staff involved in supervision as the boys undertook their first formal exam block. At present many of the boys have taken up the opportunity to participate in a very belated Work Experience program organised by Mr Kriswa...ni, the College’s Careers Coordinator. All the boys involved have the opportunity to get a taste of a real world work environment and perhaps, for some, the possibility of securing some holiday work for the upcoming Christmas break. I would like to thank all of the businesses who have generously agreed to take on some of our boys for work experience, in a year in which COVID restrictions have significantly impacted on this program. The end of the school year will be slightly different to the usual ending of a term for our Year 10 students. I would encourage parents and students to keep an eye on their emails for further details regarding the upcoming program and specific arrangements. 19.01.2022 Thanks to the brave students who shared their stories about homelessness in our Youth Ministry meeting today. Our theme: 'Feed My Soul, Feed My Heart, Feed My Spirit’ addressed both physical and spiritual Homelessness. Come to the water! You who are thirsty! Though you have nothing, I bid you come! And be filled with the goodness I have to offer! Come! Listen! Live... Homeless is not about people who don’t have no shelter to sleep under or food to eat, but also spiritually it means that we feel completely empty inside in our journey of Faith and The Lord is inviting us to turn to him even if we have nothing, he will fill us with his goodness and love. #youthministry #spirituality #breastplates #breastplate #faith #catholicman #patsfairfield #patricianbrotherscollege #patricianbrothersfairfield #pbcf #patricianbrothers #patricianbrotherscollegefairfield #college #school #education #student #students #studentsuccess #catholicschools #catholicschool #patsboys #nswcatholicschools @ Patrician Brothers' College, Fairfield

07.01.2022 VET Link Post Term 3 was another successful term for the VET teachers and students. This term VET classes have been focussing on practical tasks due to the disruption to lessons last term. To the teachers and students' credit, they have been working hard to catch up on activities missed due to online learning. They have been designing and creating a whole range of tasks that demonstrate their competency in the chosen VET Subject. Hospitality students have been busy planning ...a thankyou cake for a teacher of their choosing. They did this in lieu of a thank-you dinner which had to be cancelled due to COVID. Construction students have been learning the art of concreting and have helped to create paths and concrete slabs for the school. Sport Coaching students have been flexing their skills during Internal Sport, where they assist staff in running different activities and ball games. Business Services students have also been busy honing their Business administration skills. Work placement will commence again next term and will give the very capable year 11 students a chance to use their skills in a ‘real-life’ environment and see what working full time in their field truly means. 06.01.2022 After what has been a very demanding and challenging year we’re finally getting close to the end. Students are completing their final assessment items, but will be in classes and learning until the last day of school. This is typically the time of year that we as teachers love the most - it’s when we get to affirm and acknowledge the outstanding learners in our classrooms. Prizegiving night is an amazing Pat’s tradition and allows us to recognise not just students with outsta...nding academic achievements, but also those who excel on the sporting field, in public speaking and in performance. Last year our night was marred by bush fires with smoke covering our Hall. This year it is COVID that will present us with a challenge in recognising student achievement. In typical Pat’s tradition, however, we will adapt, we will learn and our night will go on - albeit in a varied format. Invitations will go home shortly with the evening being planned for the 15th of December. Similarly we will run adapted Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences. Due to ongoing restrictions this will take place over the phone. Bookings will be made via Compass and will be open to all families in Years 7-12. Bookings will be available from the 8th of December - we look forward to discussing your son’s achievements with you. 02.01.2022 Dear Patrician Community, On behalf of the College and the Charitable Works Fund (CWF), a massive thank you for your generosity in contributing to our most recent charity drive. This was the mufti day held on the 27th of October, where students and staff were encouraged to bring a "foldable donation" and wear casual clothing on the day. The monies have been tallied and we are now able to announce that we have managed to raise a staggering $3732.30 that the College was able to... send to the CWF to support the various ministries that they provide for the Catholic community all over Sydney. You are invited to have browse through the website of the CWF for a brief overview of what they provide to the Catholic community in Sydney. Charity is one of the three theological virtues of the Catholic Church. Through this initiative, in this recent drive we have shown our love of God and neighbour. Our Patrician Charism calls us to see Christ in all, and this echoes the words of Jesus, found in Matthew 25:40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’ Your support of this initiative in this year like no other is greatly appreciated and once again, thank you for your incredible generosity and support of the College and CWF. #patsfairfield #patricianbrotherscollege #patricianbrothersfairfield #pbcf #patricianbrothers #patricianbrotherscollegefairfield #college #school #education #student #students #studentsuccess #catholicschools #catholicschool #patsboys #nswcatholicschools

02.01.2022 Term 3 TAS Blog This term has gone so fast and despite the challenges of COVID, students in TAS courses have completed outstanding practical projects and produced amazing recipes. Our Stage 4 students working in a range of disciplines including food / agriculture, timber, metal, graphics, engineering, and coding; are no exception. The boys have been working hard in all practical courses and catching up on lost time making the most of the opportunities the TAS facilities have... to offer. In stage 5 students have been cooking up a feast with a broad range of ingredients and multicultural recipes. Students have explored engineering mechanisms both electronic and mechanical, producing amongst other projects catapults. Timber products have included coffee tables, mirror frames and bread boards. Students in multimedia have enjoyed using the wide range of equipment to produce outstanding videos and visual effects. The Major Projects in year 12 have been outstanding, the boys and their respective teachers Mr Prasad and Mr Chetcuti have put a great deal of effort and extra time into producing a quality product across the areas of timber and multimedia. Both teachers are to be congratulated on what has been a challenging year. The HSC projects this year were marked for the first time internally by each school, in previous years NESA has organised external markers to grade both folios and practical projects. 02.01.2022 Remembrance Day 2020 The 11th of November is a significant date in the history of Australia as it symbolises Armistice Day, the end of World War I. On the 11th of November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. As the armies retreated and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, ending the First World War (1914-1918). During the four years of the War more than 330,000 Australians served overseas and more than 60,...000 of them had died. The social effects of these losses cast a long shadow over postwar decades. This year, the Australian War Memorial will hold a nationally televised Remembrance Day Commemorative Ceremony that will be televised live on the ABC and available later on IView. The Australian public is encouraged to pause on this day at 11.00am and observe the minute’s silence to remember not only those lost, but all who came home and those who follow in their footsteps. At the College, a Remembrance Day service will take place during Homerooms on the 11th of November. #remembranceday #remembranceday2020 #patsfairfield #patricianbrotherscollege #patricianbrothersfairfield #pbcf #patricianbrothers #patricianbrotherscollegefairfield #college #school #education #student #students #studentsuccess #catholicschools #catholicschool #patsboys #nswcatholicschools See more
