25.01.2022 Jack McCoy, to my mind the GOAT of surf film making by a country mile, is hitting the road for a series of dates in April/May on the east coast to talk story and share moments from his stellar career during which he's made 25 surf films, half a dozen of which I had the good fortune to work on. The tour dates kick off at the Civic Theatre in Newcastle on April 8 to coincide with the WSL event in Newie. he'll be joined on stage by surf luminaries such as Mark Occhilupo, Dion Agius, Ray Collins and Pam Burridge at different points. Jack has a million anecdotes and is a gifted storyteller, his show is guaranteed to be spellbinding if you have an interest in surfing! 19.01.2022 G Land around this time last year with the boys from @oneilloz to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the tsunami was a really enjoyable trip. If 2020 had gone to plan I’d be back there now. Still I have a sense of hope that out of the ashes of the current craziness better things will rise. I’m more conscious than ever that as a white male I occupy a position of privilege. It’s so much a part of our culture it’s easily overlooked that it comes at the expense of the peopl...e who existed here for thousands of generations before European settlement & who kept the land in pristine condition. We’re just starting to value aboriginal culture and to acknowledge the damage done by colonisation which continues to this day. Non-aboriginals including me reap the benefits of this colonisation & the myth of terra nullius, we need now to acknowledge the price that was paid & continues to be paid by First Nations people. #alwayswasalwayswillbe See more

12.01.2022 Belated congrats to Cat Hope and TURA New Music on receiving the APRA AMCOS award for Best New Work at the Art Music Awards for the contemporary opera Speechless. Speechless was Cat's response to the Human Rights Commission's report into the forgotten children in immigration detention. I was fortunate to be involved in filming during the rehearsals in Melbourne and the premiere at the Festival of Perth.

05.01.2022 Was reminded of this film yesterday when I saw that it was screening in Bali to raise money for Project Nasi which distributes rice and basics to Balinese people who've lost their source of income due to CoVid19. I'll put the link to donate below. Working on this film with Jack McCoy was an incredible experience and I feel proud to have shot some of the footage in this clip. I got to meet and work/surf with some of my heroes like Shane Dorian, who I'd worked with previously o...n Jack's films and Sean Tomson who I'd idolised since I first started surfing in my early teens. My first custom board (from Jon Wilson at Balin in Flinders) had blue rails and a white deck mimicking boards I'd seen Sean ride in photos from Off The Wall and Pipe. Surfed pumping mid-size Balangan with he and a handful of others and got to meet and hear Hawaiian legends like Darrick Doerner, Dave Kalama and Jaws pioneers like Pete Cabrinha and Rush Randall talk story. 01.01.2022 Some waves from this time last year in WA ridden by Clasje Goebel who's a very graceful and talented surfer & isn't afraid to throw herself over the ledge. She's also studying to be marine biologist and the brown twinfin she's riding had pictures of species of whales she had to learn to recognise for her studies. She leant me that board to have a of ride on this day and i put a dent in it coming in which she hasn't forgiven me for!
