22.01.2022 Are you hungry or bored? The other day I read this great article by @healthline Given the festive season is in full swing, it was a timely reminder, that its important to make sure you’re eating and drinking for the right reasons! In summary the article says there are 2 types of hungry physical and psychological. ... Physical hunger is a true hunger, you have an empty feeling in your stomach and discomfort that can only be relieved by eating. On the other hand, psychological eating is associated with cravings, emotional eating and boredom eating. There are a number of factors that can increase your susceptibility to psychological hunger such as; Stress chronic mental stress may alter your hunger hormones, triggering food cravings Social pressure when around others who are eating or drinking, you may be more likely to do so too, even though your not hungry! Advertising Ever had a food craving from watching a TV commercial? Well then, you’d understand just how powerful a trigger advertising can be for psychological eating. Poor sleep studies show adults who don’t get enough sleep eat more calories, snack more and are more likely to gain weight. Hyperpalatable foods - These are highly processed foods like potato chips, lollies etc that are designed to taste delicious and for this reason people struggle to regulate their consumption. Boredom People who are prone to boredom are more likely to overeat or emotionally eat. True hunger has physical signs, such as hunger pangs or a rumbling tummy. If you’re struggling to determine if its physical or psychological hunger you’re experiencing, try doing a mental check in or drinking a glass of water before eating something. To stop yourself from eating for the wrong reasons, try keeping your trigger foods out of your home, practice mindful eating and plan out your day keep yourself busy!

17.01.2022 Avocado While most fruit consists primarily of carbohydrate, avocado is high in healthy fats. Numerous studies show that it has powerful health benefits, here are 9 of them...... 1Incredibly Nutritious they’re loaded with healthy fats, fibre, and various important nutrients. Includes 20 different vitamins and minerals. 2Contains more potassium than bananas- Avocados are very high in potassium, which should support healthy blood pressure levels. 3Loaded with Heart Healthy Monounsaturated Fatty Acids - In fact, 77% of the calories in it are from fat, making it one of the fattiest plant foods in existence. But as you know from my post earlier this week it is a good fat! 4Loaded with Fiber - about 7% by weight, which is very high compared to most other foods. Fiber may have important benefits for weight loss and metabolic health. 5Can Lower Cholesterol and Triglyceride Levels numerous studies have shown that avocados can, reduce total cholesterol levels significantly, reduce blood triglycerides by up to 20%, lower LDL cholesterol by up to 22%, and increase HDL (the good) cholesterol by up to 11%. 6People Who Eat Avocados Tend to Be Healthier - One dietary survey found that people who ate avocados had a much higher nutrient intake and a lower risk of metabolic syndrome. 7Their Fat Content May Help You Absorb Nutrients from Plant Foods - Studies have shown that eating avocado or avocado oil with vegetables can dramatically increase the number of antioxidants you take in. 8Loaded with Powerful Antioxidants that can Protect your Eyes- Avocados are high in antioxidants, including lutein and zeaxanthin. These nutrients are very important for eye health and lower your risk of macular degeneration and cataracts. 9Is Delicious and Easy to Incorporate in Your Diet - Avocados have a creamy, rich, fatty texture and blend well with other ingredients. Therefore, it’s easy to add this fruit to your diet. Using lemonjuice may prevent cut avocados from browning quickly. In summary, Avocados are an excellent food, loaded with nutrients, many of which are lacking in the modern diet.

16.01.2022 2020 The Year that Changed us Forever Well, I’ve got to say I’m not sad to say goodbye to 2020. What a massively challenging year it has been for us all in all regards - mentally, physically, and emotionally. However, perspective is important. While it was a tough, perhaps the toughest year, it is also the year that we were all forced to slow down and reflect. I think for this reason, 2020 has also been the year that I learnt so much about work, family, friends, and... life in general. Being in lockdown with the 3 most important people in my life was amazing It was so good to spend quality time with my family. Lockdown forced me to pivot PB and move to online training oh how I loved ZOOM! I will be forever grateful for my loyal PB Trainers that stuck with me through this time and kept training. Post Covid lockdown our brand new PB studio was officially opened and that’s another massive positive and achievement for me in 2020. As with everything in life, it’s about choices. You can choose to dwell on the negative or to find the positives and focus on them. I encourage you to find the good and focus on the valuable lessons learnt in 2020 and bring those vibes with you into 2021! Thank you to all my wonderful PB family for your support throughout the year. Enjoy your celebrations tonight, whatever they might be. I look forward to seeing you all in 2021 and working with you to achieve your health and fitness goals.

12.01.2022 ChristmasStress Relief Exercise! While Christmas is known as the season to be jolly, it can be a significant source of stress, pressure, and conflict for many of us. Some people can feel overwhelmed by the excess and expectations! The antidote for Christmas stress could be just as simple as taking a walk around the block! Research shows that physical activity reorganises the brain in such a way that it reduces its response to stress.... Regular exercise can help to decrease tension and boost your mood. It produces endorphins natural painkilling chemicals that are released in the brain that improve your ability to sleep and reduce stress. Also its been proven that if you convince the rest of the family to leave the couch and come along on the walk with you, your stress levels will be reduced even further Moral of the story keep up your exercise over the festive season. You’ll thank yourself for it! Come into the studio and sweat it out or simply go for a walk after dinner as the fresh air and exercise will lift your mood and make you feel good! See more
