17.01.2022 Michel Roux, the French chef and restaurateur, has died aged 78. He was a little over a month from his 79th birthday. Roux, whose influence on British cooking and eating is almost unparalleled, was surrounded by family as he succumbed to a long-standing lung condition, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. He died at his home in Bray, Berkshire. The restaurant world is today paying tribute to him.... A statement from the family, shared on Instagram, reads: It is with deep sadness that the Roux family announces the passing of our beloved grandfather, father, brother and uncle, Michel Roux OBE. The family would like to thank everyone for their support during his illness. While many of you will share our great sense of loss, we request privacy for the family at this difficult time. "We are grateful to have shared our lives with this extraordinary man and we’re so proud of all he’s achieved. A humble genius, legendary chef, popular author and charismatic teacher, Michel leaves the world reeling in his wake. For many, he was a father figure inspiring all with his insatiable appetite for life and irresistible enthusiasm. But above all, we will miss his mischievous sense of fun, his huge, bottomless heart and generosity and kindness that knew no bounds. Michel’s star will shine forever lighting the way for a generation of chefs to follow.
16.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we share the news that our good friend Chef Gary Farrell passed away today, suffering a heart attack at home. Gary was well known ...to the professional chef community around the world. He was Captain of the Australian Culinary Team for eight years and director of Chef of the Year competition for the last ten. He was considered one of the most talented chefs in Australia and made a huge contribution to industry development. Long time colleague and friend Tim Collett said the loss would be felt by chefs across the globe. "Gary was just so enormously talented and driven. He wanted perfection and would push everyone hard to be better. It could be exasperating at times but he would give you that cheeky smile and share his vision. He normally got his way". Gary leaves behind his beautiful wife Renae and three adored children Maci, Kiki and Saxon. We pass our love and best wishes to them in this difficult time. The chef of the year competition will be running in November and dedicated to the memory of our lost friend.

13.01.2022 Respected Queensland chef passes away suddenly at home The former head chef of an award-winning Queensland seafood restaurant has passed away suddenly at his Brisbane home. Fifty-year-old Mark Maric died from a heart attack at home on Monday.... Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, his son Anthony Maric said his father had just fallen asleep when he suffered a heart attack. I had just sat down to eat dinner and I heard a bad sound from him on the couch, a bad exhale, and then he went purple in the face straight away, he said. Paramedics spent 40 minutes trying to revive the father of four, but he couldn't be saved. Maric headed the kitchen at The Lure when it won Queensland's best seafood restaurant in 2006. He also worked as a head chef at respected Brisbane restaurants including Cloudland and his own restaurant, Dish. Anthony said the highlight of his father’s career had been when he was personally praised by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey when working at O Bar and Grill in 2009. He came home and said to me ‘this was one of the biggest highlights of my life’, Anthony said. He had a big smile on his face when he said it too. Sheridan Randall, 10th March 2020
