20.01.2022 Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) have announced their intentions to begin investigating options for the education of both girls and boys on the St Marys Primary School, PCW and CBC campuses from 2020. EREA has guaranteed to support our PCW girls currently in Years 10 and 11 with the completion of their senior pathways. Beyond that, we are hoping for an option for all our students will emerge in the near future. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience and support during this time while the school works to care for the interests of its community.

19.01.2022 As the sun sets today, we want to extend our wishes to those of Jewish faith in our community, who will be lighting the shamash and first candle on their menorahs tonight. They will be celebrating their miracle of Hanukkah over the next eight days. May love and light fill your hearts and homes this Hanukkah. Shalom.

19.01.2022 At the end of last year, we celebrated the Presentation Sisters who established Presentation College Windsor back in 1873. These sisters, their values and legacy have been the soul of the College community; however, our students have been our beating heart. After having only been in Australia for a little over a month, Mother Mulquin and her companions taught their first classes on the 26th January 1874. The school had 22 students and initially held lessons in the St Mary...s presbytery. The school was then known as Presentation Convent of the Sacred Heart, St Kilda and was a select school for young ladies. An advertisement in The Advocate in January 1874 reveals that fees were 2,2s per quarter. Students were schooled in accomplishments and knowledge to complete the education of a young lady, which comprised of English, French and Italian literature, music, drawing, the use of globes, and needlework, both plain and ornamental. These young women started school in a time when education was not a priority. The Victorian Education Act of 1872 made schooling compulsory for children aged 6-15 years old; before this time, schooling was seen as a luxury that many families were unable to afford (https://guides.slv.vic.gov.au/education). Classes for girls at the time were informal and they received a finishing type of education, where they learnt etiquette, deportment, the art of conversation, poetry recitation, music and dramatic performance. The only university in existence at the time in Victoria was Melbourne University, which did not permit women to attend until 1881, and it was another six years before women would be admitted to medicine courses. The women sitting in classes at the Presentation Convent in the late 1870s would not have the right to vote in Australia until they were in their 30s and 40s. Education, for women in particular, has changed considerably over the years! We are fortunate that the Presentation Sisters ventured to our shores and provided an education for thousands and thousands of young ladies over the past 147 years. Comment below if you can remember your first day at PCW when did you start, what do you recall, and what was school like when you attended the College? Images: 1. One of the earliest pictures we have on record of students who attended the Convent. It was taken in 1876. The small group of women on the right are the students and sisters from the select school at Presentation Convent. The photograph was taken in front of Turret Lodge, the building that was on the grounds of PCW before the Convent was built in 1884. 2. An advertisement for the Presentation Convent in The Advocate in January 1874.

18.01.2022 Thank you to all of our past students who supported this year’s Music Festival. It was a fantastic evening, full of music, dance and excitement. One of the highlights was the Music Captains’ Choir, featuring past and present Music Captains of PCW, celebrating our rich history by performing both the old and new versions of the College song. For pictures of the all the performances, head over to our Presentation College Windsor page.

16.01.2022 The Easter story is a story of love and hope. We believe that the power of God’s love that raised Jesus to new life on Easter will help us overcome the darkness that prevails in our world today. As we celebrate Easter this year, during this challenging and extraordinary moment in history, know that we shall overcome the darkness through the power of love and hope. Together we pray... May we open our hearts, when all is closed. May we open our minds, when fear can overwhelm. May we open our arms, and find ways to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbours. May we embrace the Easter hope kinder than before. Amen. Wishing all in our Presentation family a blessed and holy Easter. Stay safe out there.

15.01.2022 As a school community, we have been privileged to provide an education to thousands of young women, across multiple generations. Nano Nagle, the Presentation Sisters and their values have been the soul of our schools community, and our students have been its beating heart. To commemorate this legacy, we are working on a project to capture the essence and history of the College through the women who have walked its halls. We know that each of you have a connection with the ...College and will have many stories to share. You can get involved by sharing your story or nominating a fellow alumna by completing our questionnaire at www.bit.ly/pcwstories. We are seeking past students across multiple decades who are willing to share memories of their daily school life, who can tell us what a typical school day and year was like during their times, what it was like to be a day student or a boarder, etc. We are also interested to know what values and/or inspiration you received from an education at PCW. Did it help guide you as you moved beyond the gates and went on to further studies; did a teacher or subject inspire a career pathway; did you make a wonderful home for you family; were you a Prefect, Captain, Dux, the lead in a production; do you have family connections with the College? Please be aware that we are not necessarily only looking for past students whom have had high profile success since leaving PCW, we want to hear from many perspectives. To get involved, we invite you to complete our online questionnaire or contact our Community Engagement Officer, Nikki Williams, at [email protected]. Final stories to be published will be selected by the Commemorative Project Committee to ensure coverage across multiple generations of students. We look forward to hearing from you!

14.01.2022 Our final Music Festival is happening in two weeks! Xavier appear to have won this event on numerous occasions who will take out the overall win in 2020? The Music Festival has been a highlight for our students for many years. Comment below if you participated in Music Fest during your time at PCW - what year was it, what did you perform and which house won? Are you in any of the pictures we found in the archives? Does anyone recall when the very first Music Festival wa...s held? Weve had a look back through the archives and the earliest mention found was in the 1977 yearbook. It appears it was originally held in the school hall over a few days. The 1977 festival included performances from primary school students and the senior girls staged a musical called Salad Days and starred two Annes Anne McDowall and Anne Scopel. If you attended the College prior to Music Festival, what was the highlight of your schooling years? Were there musicals, drama performances, choirs, bands, or perhaps a talent quest? Wed love to hear about it, so please comment below! This years Music Festival is being held at the Music Recital Centre in two weeks, on the 14th February. There will be plenty more Valentines Days ahead, but only one more Music Fest! Our girls would love your support, so jump online and book your tickets today - http://bit.ly/musicfestival2020. We hope to see you there!

14.01.2022 We have had a busy few weeks at PCW with the House Swimming and Athletics Carnivals and our students dived into our SCSA season with swimming last week. Sport had a slow start at PCW. In the 1940s and 1950s, students only participated in 30mins of sport each week and they played tennis and basketball. Today, students can build their confidence in individual pursuits or bond with team mates through a wide variety of sporting activities, from netball and cricket to football and lacrosse, and we still have tennis and basketball teams to this day. Let us know in the comments if you were involved in a sporting team, what your favourite sporting activities were or share a memory about a sporting triumph! We love hearing what school life was like for our past students.

13.01.2022 Music Festival: The Finale will be upon us soon. Tickets have been selling well and the dress circle is now open. Tickets can be purchased online at www.bit.ly/musicfestival2020. Our House Music Captains were busy working with their houses at the end of the school year, preparing for their choir, variety and instrumental performances, in the hope of becoming the 2020 Music Festival Champions. It will be an event not to be missed! We look forward to seeing you there!

13.01.2022 Today is International Family Day and the start of National Family Week. Our school community gathered online this morning to reflect on what family means to us. Family is one of lifes most precious gifts. They can take many different forms and each family is different. Family can connect us to our past and be the ground for our future.... Family can extend beyond who were related to. Our family can consist of supportive and caring friends with whom we enjoy a strong connection. Family is not always a birthright, but a choice. It can stem from an act of kindness that helps us thrive. Family can also be a community that we belong to and find strength within, such as the wonderful community we share together here at PCW. No matter how your families are made up, we hope that each and every one of you are surrounded by those who love you unconditionally, you support each other to flourish, and find peace in the love, laughter, tears and moments you share together.

13.01.2022 "Be bold, be brave, be strong, be courageous." This was the call from our Principal, Filina Virgato, to our young women during International Women's Day celebra...tions this week. We were also very fortunate to have Elaine Hannebery, Class of 1953, share with us her experience as a Presentation woman in the 1940s and 1950's. Although much has changed, the College's commitment to raising strong women has not. She challenged the girls to support and raise up all women, especially through service to their community. Celebrations ended up on a sweet note as they enjoyed the IWD cookies made by our Year 10 Food Tech class, with our Principal as their teacher. Thanks to our students and teachers (men and women) who joined in the powerful message of #balanceforbetter.

12.01.2022 CBC St Kilda will be holding their Open Day in a couple of weeks. If you are looking for a school for your daughter or son in 2021 or beyond, make sure to stop by and talk to their staff and students about their plans for their re-imagined school community.

11.01.2022 On Saturday afternoon, 25 past students returned to the College for their 40 year reunion. They had a wonderful time catching up with old friends and sharing stories as they wandered through the halls of their school. Five of the women started their schooling together in 1967 before graduating in 1979, back when the College educated girls from Prep to Year 12.

10.01.2022 Today we remember those Australians who served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Please let us know how your family commemorated today by commenting below or tag us in your posts so we can share and give thanks to our service men and women together. Yesterday, our school community came together through Google Meet to commemorate and pray as a school community. The prayer service was led by our student leaders and reflected on the sacrifice made by... many, as well as the responsibility we have today to ensure we become agents of peace for future generations. We also kept in our prayers all first responders, medical staff and essential workers during this time of pandemic. The service included The Ode, one minute silence and the Reveille, which was followed by Ms Virgato laying the wreath at our nations flag on behalf of the school. Our school Captain, Bridie Wilcox, ended the service by encouraging families to commemorate ANZAC Day at home this year and provided a number of suggestions to do so.

10.01.2022 On Saturday afternoon, women from the class of 1969 gathered for their 50 year school reunion! It was great to hear about their stories from their time at the College and what activities they got up to before, after and during school hours.

09.01.2022 The health and safety of our community is a priority at this time, so in line with Government social distancing recommendations, we have made the decision to postpone the Windsor High Tea, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, 17 May. It is our hope that we will be able to reschedule the event for a weekend in September this year. As soon as we are in a position to recommence planning, we will advise our community of the updated details. Stay healthy and happy everyone.

04.01.2022 As a member of the Presentation College Windsor community, it is evident that our wonderful school has a soul and essence of its very own. Many of us were saddened by the news that the school will be closing its doors at the end of the 2020 school year, and many of our schools families have hope in the opportunities that the educational precinct at St Kilda East will bring them in the years ahead. Presentation College Windsor has educated thousands of young women (and some ...primary school boys) since it was established 146 years ago, and over the next 12 months, we would like to celebrate her life and the lives of those who were part of our community. So, what better way to start then to celebrate the incredible women who established the school in the late 1800s. Mother Paul Mulquin, the first Head Mistress of the College, was only in her early 30s when she led a small group of women from Limerick, Ireland. Her companions were Mother Bernard Gunson, Mother Patrick Irwin, Sr Margaret Mary Cronin, Sr Berchmans Carroll, Mary Elizabeth Mackey (Sr Francis Xavier Mackey), and Anne Bray (Sr Monica Bray). It took great courage and faith in their decision to journey to the ends of the earth, as Father James Corbett described it when writing to the Presentation Sisters to urge them to come. These women, some as young as 19 years old, farewelled their family and friends in Ireland, knowing that they would be unlikely to ever return. They spent 56 days aboard an emigrant ship, the SS Great Britain, sailing down the west coast of Africa, around the Cape of Good Hope and on to Australia, arriving in Port Melbourne on this day, the 21st December, in 1873. The Presentation Community in Victoria was established by these women on Christmas Day 1873, with their first classes commencing shortly after, on the 24 January 1874. Images: 1. This first image was taken in 1876, a few years after the sisters first arrived in Windsor. They are pictured with with Father Corbett of St Marys parish, and new Sister, Mother Joseph OKennedy. Mother Paul Mulquin is pictured third from the left. 2. The second image is a picture of the nearby St Kilda Junction in 1873, which shows what the city was like when the sisters arrived. Roads were unsealed and they took a horse-drawn carriage from Port Melbourne to Windsor. Image sourced from St Kilda Historical Society - http://www.skhs.org.au/SKHShotels/Corner%20Hotel.htm. 3. The third image is an advertisement for the SS Great Britain voyage the sisters sailed to Australia on. It was an emigrant ship that relied mostly on sail, but also had a steam engine on board for when there was little wind.

04.01.2022 Call out to the Class of 1999. Make sure you book our spot into the upcoming reunion next Saturday!

04.01.2022 We had a great turn out for the annual Women of Windsor Reunion on Sunday afternoon. The hall was buzzing with chatter as friends and acquaintances caught up with each other over a cuppa and some treats. A big thank you to our MC, Anna Burke (Class of 1983), and our two guest speakers, Antonietta D'Andrea (Class of 1982) and Michaela Moloney (Class of 1991). It is always heart-warming to hear the stories of our past students and how their time at PCW helped to shape their lives, both at school and after they moved beyond our gates.

03.01.2022 This weekend, students from the class of 1969 will gather for their 50 year reunion. These women were teenagers of the 1960s, a period of social and cultural change in our country and around the world. Taking a look back in time, some events which would have influenced their time at school and schoolyard chatter would have included: money changing from pounds to decimal currency, the Vietnam War, discussing which member of the Beatles was their favourite, the opening of the... Chadstone shopping centre, attending their mums Tupperware party, delighting in their first Tim Tam biscuit when the product launched in 1963, watching last nights episode of Bandstand, or witnessing man landing on the moon. Many creature comforts and conveniences that we take for granted today were only starting out in the 1960s, the television had up to 3 channels only and many programs only shown in black and white, supermarkets were being established as a one stop shop, McDonalds had not yet reached the shores of Australia, and digital networking and the internet were only theories being researched by the US defence force. We are looking forward to welcoming the class of 1969 back to the College and hearing stories of their school lives. Reunion tickets can now be purchased on the internet! Follow this link www.bit.ly/PCW1969. If you are still in touch with anyone from your class and you think they may be interested in attending, please let them know about this event. We understand that not everyone is on social media and contact details we have on file may have changed over the years.
