14.01.2022 What an epic weekend! This year for the Christine Thompson NAIDOC Touch Football Competition we entered two teams - Garrgay Hawk SNRS and Garrgay Hawks Young Guns. We had a young guns side stacked with Shalom Christian College and Pimlico High School students & an adult side. The young guns side showed great spirit and scored some unreal tries over the weekend with a couple amazing intercepts and run away tries. The kids enjoyed being able to have fun on the field but were o...verjoyed to get their hands on a free snow cone after the game being a 36 degree day in Charters Towers! The adult team lost in the semi final in a drop off but played consistent footy all weekend! No losses all weekend apart from the semi - not bad for a team who hadn’t played together. We even had the likes of Kristians Congoo Australian and North Queensland Cowboy representative player join us this year. It was overall an absolutely awesome day surrounded by unreal people! Can’t wait to do it again next year - perfect way to end NAIDOC Week 2020.

14.01.2022 Congratulations to our Indigenous Community Sport & Recreation Officer at PCYC Upper Ross, Arika Appleby, who has been selected as a participant in the 2020 Queensland Indigenous Youth Leadership Program (QIYLP) to be held in Brisbane from 12 to 17 December 2020. QIYLP is the flagship component of the Queensland Indigenous Youth Leadership Strategy, providing an exciting opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged 1825 in Queensland to come together to strengthen their leadership skills and build their capacity to drive change in local communities. A proud Gudjala woman from Townsville, Arika said It is a huge honour to be selected to attend the QIYLP. I look forward to meeting a diverse range of attendees and collaborating on ideas to better our local communities!

We had the Baywatch mob from the Burdekin make the trek to Townsville to play two hours of basketball games(thanks to Ziggie for refereeing). 01.01.2022 Subeh Dance Classes are a great way to work every muscle in your body. These young ones find it easy connecting to something that is musically and culturally innate in their bodies sharing old stories from the past and re-telling them in the present day through Contemporary Indigenous movement - Mackay ICSRO, Patrick.
