25.01.2022 To all parents, nature lovers, adventures or just those that got to enjoy tree climbing. This article supports outdoor play and the benefits of positive risk taking, while also serving as a guide to supporting your child to become a safer tree climber.

23.01.2022 With the recent fires we’ve received a number of concerned calls. Bornhoffen PCYC is currently safe and like most of the Gold Coast is blanketed in smoke. Our thoughts are with those more directly affected, particularly our neibour’s up on Beachmont. If the situation at Bornhoffen PCYC changes, we will update our Facebook page.

22.01.2022 This week another Skilling Queenslanders For Work program began. 9 young people that have struggled to find work will spend the next 18 weeks developing their employability skills through bush regeneration. This group will work at various sites throughout the Gold Coast Hinterland including 2 days a week at Bornhoffen. Their contribution is significant as we eradicate invasive species, reestablish endemic plants and help return things to the way they once were. It is these types of efforts that have allowed our Land For Wildlife program to be so successful and we can’t wait to see the continued improvements. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to land care over the last 15 years. Bornhoffen is looking very different and we’re seeing a return in wildlife activity.

21.01.2022 For all those looking for something different this weekend, Nature Freedom is celebrating their 1st birthday with a canoe experience open to the public. Check out their post if you’re interested.

20.01.2022 Wow, what an amazing weekend... the Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy (AABAT) National forum came to a close today. Practitioners from across the country gathered at Bornhoffen to share practice, research and to collaborate in this diverse and wonderful field. Thank you to the AABAT committee for creating a wonderful event and allowing Bornhoffen to play a part.

19.01.2022 While the wet weekend would have put a dampener on most people’s plans to get out and about, it didn’t stop our Duke of Edinburgh program. The much needed rain added to the experience and learning opportunity as two groups from Emmanuel College completed their bronze level adventurous journey. This involved a two day hike, navigation, managing their campsite, decision making and developing an effective team climate.

18.01.2022 We’ve had a massive week which is only just coming to its end today. Pacific Lutheran College from the Sunshine Coast brought 110 Yr 8 students for a 5 day expedition. This group traveled some serious kilometers on either foot or canoe as they journeyed from Springbrook National Park, lamington National Park and all through the Numinbah Valley. If that wasn’t enough, an international group from Shanghai started a 4 day residential program, which finishes up today. These young people really are having a cultural experience, demonstrating an appreciation for the spectacular Good Coast Hinterland.

17.01.2022 We’re a little late on sharing this, but better late than never! Last week Arron and Jai facilitated another Advancing Facilitation Practice (AFP) workshop with PCYC branch managers, youth workers and program delivery staff. The workshop develops individual understanding of group work, facilitation principles and practices, allowing each course participant to better support participant and group learning. It’s always a privilege to be a part of a practitioner’s learning, and we can’t wait to see the benefits and learning from this course used in the many community based programs that PCYC Queensland offers.

15.01.2022 At Bornhoffen, we integrate play into everything we do. We recognise that play is a state of mind that enhances learning, development and synaptic building. This is the learning process or structural change in the brain which acts as a bridge for neurons to travel.

15.01.2022 Good morning, further to yesterday's posts, Bornhoffen PCYC will remain closed for today. Thank you for all the messages of concern, we’re a good 10km south of the current fire and haven't been directly impacted. We are grateful for all the efforts beeing made to contain the fires, and our thoughts are with those that have been affected. Thank you for your continued patience while we respond to the current issue.

13.01.2022 To all our friends and supporters. It is with great sadness that we’ve been forced to temporarily close due to Covid-19. Due to the nature of the pandemic we’re unable to predict when we will be able to reopen. All tentative or confirmed bookings will be contacted as we progress closer to booking dates. We look forward to reopening once things settle and will be in contact with any groups that have a booking.... Wishing you all the best during this difficult and uncertain time. Please stay safe. Warm regards, PCYC Bornhoffen

12.01.2022 Bornhoffen had a great night last Friday at the Outdoors Queensland awards, which is hosted by the Queensland Outdoor Recreation Federation (QORF). We were successful in winning the Queensland Government Encouraging Participation award, which recognises the commitment and success of the Thrive Project. Thrive works in partnership with the Queensland Children’s Hospital and burns patients. The program aims to support young people who’ve suffered a burn injury to thrive in thei...r recovery. This is done through a sequenced program model that supports out patients as they grow, recover and develop. We also picked up the Distinguished Achievement award as this was our third industry award. This recognises our continued commitment to providing excellent programs that support young people and community. this’s a credit to our team and the community partnerships created.

12.01.2022 Some good news for the Numinbah Valley, the efforts made by our Rural Firefighters have been successful and the fires are currently contained. People visiting the area should still take care as visibility is reduced and firefighter crews are still at work. Bornhoffen has reopened this morning and will begin to resume normal business operations. Any group bookings will continue to be assessed and we welcome any conversations or concerns that approaching groups may have. Thank you to all the firefighters, emergency services and the local community for banding together during this challenging week. Your efforts are very much appreciated.

12.01.2022 The years end may be near but the work and programs continue. This week we delivered a leadership and teaming experience for practitioners and allied health staff from Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus (SBH) QLD. The program was aimed at supporting staff and developing the collaborative and teaming capability of this amazing non-profit, allowing staff to better support each other and the community they serve.

11.01.2022 Following from this mornings post, Bornhoffen PCYC will remain closed for day. We will continue to evaluate the situation and will advise via Facebook on a daily basis. Any programs booked between now and Friday have been postponed as a precautionary measure. Venue bookings starting Friday and running over the weekend will be assessed over the next 48 hours and will be contacted directly. Thank you for your continued patience as we work through the situation. The Bornhoffen team

09.01.2022 Here’s an early education centre doing things differently by connecting children with outdoor play. While this may at first, appear risky, the children are developing essential skills that will help them to understand and manage their emotions, and consider risk and benefit. This leads to more capable young adults that are resilient and in a better position to make the decisions that count. This is not too dissimilar to Bornhoffen’s approach to experiential learning and adventure-based programming, where we support participants to be self-aware, confident and capable in navigating life.

08.01.2022 Bornhoffen will be closed today until 12:00pm, while we assess the fire risk. While we hope to be back to normal operations as soon as possible, we need to ensure that it’s safe for our staff and upcoming bookings. We thank you for your patience while we make these decisions. We will provide an update via Facebook later this morning. Any approaching group bookings will be contacted directly. Thanks, Bornhoffen PCYC

06.01.2022 It was an exciting day for the Venue team, the much anticipated backhoe finally arrived. This piece of machinery will improve our maintenance and property improvements without some of the costs. Thanks to Kubtrack in Nerang for the great deal and their support of PCYC.

06.01.2022 Agree or disagree? Perhaps it’s not a dichotomy, maybe it’s possible to have both. This comes down to the imagination, creativity and flexibility of educators and schools. However with a strong curriculum focus, budget and other restraints, this is yet another demand on our amazing teachers. Bornhoffen offers a collaborative approach where for a few days the educational focus shifts and the demands on teachers eased as the learning process is shared with a facilitator in experiential learning. Learning outcomes are anchored to emotional intelligence. Developing personal and social competencies through outdoor recreation and reflective processes.

05.01.2022 At PCYC Bornhoffen we like to finish the year with a bang. Today the final stage to the PCYC Queensland State Youth Leadership Program (SYLP 3) comes to an end. SYLP 3 is an advanced leadership development program aimed at supporting young people to lead at a community level. Participants have now completed all three SYLP programs, totaling 17 days of leadership and team development focused learning. We wish these young leaders all the best of success as they take their new skill set into schools, universities, the work place and PCYC branches and programs.

02.01.2022 Yet another leading psychologist supporting time in nature and its capacity to heal. This is exactly what last weeks forum and the AABAT community is about.
