25.01.2022 Just a reminder that we are operating on reduced hours for a few days as we undertake a system upgrade. Hopefully we'll be back online by Wednesday afternoon. On a brighter note - THE BENCH IS BACK. Thanks to Greeny and the team at Field Engineering Services PTY LTD for the excellent workmanship upgrading and strengthening our bench-press. I know there’s some lads out there who will be very excited. Dylan, Tyler, Mal, Anzac......

23.01.2022 It was great to see the response to the bike and scooter registration at Chill Out yesterday afternoon. It was so popular that we are going to do it again next week. 2:30p - 4:30p at the Activities Hall on Daintree Street. We had two special visitors drop by. Senior Constable Lisa from the Police Station stopped by to lend a hand while visiting artist Joel Ferguson stopped by to get some feedback from our youths in regards to some upcoming exciting art projects. Welcome Lisa and Joel

22.01.2022 Cloncurry v Mt Isa Miners Basketball 25th Novmeber 2020 Last night Cloncurry hosted the Mt Isa Miners in what we believe is the first ever basketball clash (happy to be corrected if anyone can provide some history) between the neighbouring communities. For Cloncurry with a six team mixed competition it was a great opportunity to represent our town with both our U18's and seniors performing well against the might of the Miners who boast fourteen men's and six women's teams in ...their local competition. The seniors team had a few injuries and lost two key players leading into the game. None the less the team still had a strong staring five and a deep bench. The Miners were fast, disciplined and well drilled. They even pulled some Curry Heat tactics out on us (we should know better) and eventually ran away deserved 72 - 39 winners. The U18's never gave up throughout their contest and clawed back a 10 point deficit late in the game to eventually go down by only six point 42 - 36. It was incredibly entertaining and exciting to watch the U18's compete throughout their whole game. Junior basketball is well in hand and the future looks so bright for Cloncurry Junior Basketball in 2021 and beyond. Congratulations to Ronald Yagao who became our first ever three point shootout champion. A couple of shootouts to a few people who made last night happen. To Alex who battles the dust and dirt to clean the sports hall every week in preparation for our activities. Its a thankless job but so vitally important for everyone's safety. Thanks To Dan Crisp who volunteered to run the scoring last night. Dan continually rocks up each week to help out so thanks for lightening the burden. We would have been stuck without you last night. Bron for helping throughout the week to get the games set up and and for slaving away over the BBQ last night to feed our visitors. Cheers To The Zookeeper who took some awesome pics for us last night. Joel continues to give to Cloncurry and we thank you. And of course, Jerome and the Mount Isa Basketball Association crew for traveling down to the Curry. It was awesome to have you guys and hope to do this again. See you all in 2021.

22.01.2022 Support vulnerable and at-risk young Queenslanders this year. Vulnerable and at-risk young Queenslanders will struggle and face far greater adversity this new year. In 2021 we need your support to continue providing mentoring, essential programs, and a safe environment to more than 50,000 young people. Bullied all through school Angel eventually gave up and dropped out of school. Disengaged, suffering from low self-esteem and mental health issues, Angel’s future was extremely... uncertain. PCYC Queensland continues to support Angel and her dream, and she has recently completed work experience for her certificate in one of PCYC Queensland’s 100+ Outside School Hours Care services. Your donation will help change her story, donate now and change the story of a young Queenslander in 2021. https://donate.pcyc.org.au/ #PCYCQLD #Charity #Donate #OurStories

21.01.2022 NETBALL Week 8, were now on the home stretch and just one more round until the school holiday break. Exciting news, we have an umpiring clinic penciled in for term 4. This will be a great opportunity for each team to send a few players along. ... Time and date to follow. On another note - is there anyone with some electrical know-how who maybe able to give our scoreboard controller a service? The connections are getting somewhat loose which is starting to impact its operation!!! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
21.01.2022 Supa 8's Cricket Last chance for the year to play some cricket. Come down to the Showground at 6pm for a game. All welcome.
21.01.2022 So ends term three netball. Theres no doubt that the COVID curse that hangs over our heads has made life in the Curry somewhat difficult so I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has jumped back into community sport and tried to make the most of the situation we find ourselves in. Thanks to all the players, scorers and our valued umpires for making this comp work. We now have a few weeks off before hitting the court on October 5 for the run home. Enjoy the break and well see you on the other side ready to rip into term four.
19.01.2022 The regular basketball season is done and dusted. Next week is Finals Week. Great to witness the Wizards coming together as a team to say thank you to Coach Preyan Prince, better known as Sir, who has guided, yelled, encouraged, mentored and trained the hell out of these Cloncurry youth for the past two years. Many wouldn't be aware that this teams weekly line-up is dictated by performance at school. Don't attend school or don't put in the effort at school - no game time. ... Watching these guys week in and week out, its plain to see that playing for this team means so much to every single one of them. Well done and thank you Preyan. Finals week timings: 5v6 @ 6pm Team Rocket v The Underdogs 3v4 @ 7pm Ausmex Fire v Strikers Grand Final @ 8pm Wizards v Curry Heat

18.01.2022 With week one of the gym done and dusted we would like to thank everyone who has attended and worked within our new guidelines. Its been great to see you all back. Below is a list of commonly asked questions complied from the previous week. Feel free to drop me a line with any further questions you may have [email protected]. Why cant I book into a session?... Our sessions are capped at 10. This is due to a number of factors primarily to ensure the health and safety of our members and staff during COVID. This ensures we follow the square meter rule and the distancing rule. Therefore once the session is full, no further bookings can be taken. Please also note, booking sheets are renewed weekly. Therefore to ensure you are accessing the most current booking sheet, please access the link via the PCYC website, https://www.pcyc.org.au/clubs/pcyc-cloncurry/ or access a new link in the updated email sent to members weekly. Please do not use the initial booking email as this link will take you to the first weeks booking sheet. Im unable to make my session. Please attempt to cancel your session using the online booking portal or contact the Club. This will ensure maximum opportunities for all members during this transition period. The session times do not suit me. Soon a survey will be undertaken to gather feedback on the current opening times. This will assist the Club in future opening hours as we attempt to accommodate our members to the best of our ability. I encourage everyone to take part in this survey. Additionally, the Club is seeking anyone who may wish to volunteer to become a Gym Officer to assist with the gym. If this interests you please drop me a line at [email protected] for more information. I had a session booked but its disappeared? Please contact the Club directly if this affects you so it can be rectified as soon as possible. Once again, it is an absolute pleasure to have you all back in the gym again, and I look forward to seeing everyone soon.

10.01.2022 Netball Finals 2020 Congratulations to Ball of Duty for outlasting The Central Cougars in this years grand final. After getting off to a flying start with some slick mid court passing by Erin Armstrong and Olivia Young with some red hot shooting from Emma Young and Mal Armstrong, Ball of Duty settled into the rhythm while Central Cougars looked to have some grand final jitters in the first quarter. The veteran Ball of Duty team chomped away during the second term to have a h...andy halftime lead. Co 2020 Best and Fairest Kasey Hudson lead a third quarter comeback by the Cougars with Brooke Knight starting to find her range under the goal. Things looked much closer at the final turn. Ball of Duty came out in the fourth and put a little run together which gave them a cushion until a late surge by the Cougars made the score a respectable 31 - 24 at full time. The grand final was played at a hectic pace with some high quality netball being played. Best of all was the good spirit the contest was played with and all players should be congratulated for their outstanding sportsmanship. It was a fitting end to a long season. Huge congratulations to Emma Terry from Team Wut and Kasey Hudson from the Central Cougars who were named joint 2020 Best and Fairest. Both demonstrated a high level of skill and sportsmanship throughout the year and I believe everyone would agree that these two athletes never stopped trying throughout the season. Well done Emma and Kasey. The playoff for third spot was won by PoPo & Co over Team Wut. PoPo & Co saved their most complete performance for the finals behind Rhi Pears, Mitch Hudson and Renae Chapman while Team Wut were down a few players including the bouncing enthusiasm of Luke Chaplain and steadiness of Courtney McMillian. The defensive dominance of co Best and Fairest Emma Terry wasn't enough to stop PoPo & Co on the night. Big shout out to tonight's umpires and scorers. Thanks! Thanks everyone for making the season what it was. See you next year when we'll slip back into the more pleasurable Term 2 and Term 3 competition.

06.01.2022 Too Fast, Too Skilled, Too Fit Wizards are the 2020 Basketball Champions The Wizards were just too good for the Heat tonight running out deserved winners 68 - 45. Both teams started clunky in a low scoring first quarter however it was the Wizards who were the first to come out in the second quarter and get into their groove. Behind the offense of Jeremy Flores, Kenji Mabuhay and big Gil Doherty and the smothering defence led by Kasey Hudson and Luke Land the Wizards were too ...much to handle. A valiant offensive performance from league MVP Ronald Yagao wasn't enough to stem the tide. Big Shane Domin and Mario Mabuhay fought hard down low all night but to no avail. With a bench of Ethan MacNamara, Mykahlia Douglas and JJ Bacon, there is no rest for the opposition. It was so good to see Coach Prince reward Matthew Mabuhay, the youngest Wizard, with a starting spot in the biggest game of the year. Matty didn't disappoint as he hasn't all year with safe ball handling and smooth shooting. This team are deserved champions and will be hard to beat for years to come. Best wishes to coach Prince and his ankle. Hopefully he'll be right to dance (are we allowed to dance?) at the formal on Friday. Congratulations to Ronald Yagao who was named the leagues MVP while Gil Doherty was named most improved player. In the playoff for third place between Ausmex Fire and The Strikers, dead eye shooting from Strikers Sherroy Pahl, Dan Dan Parker and Shaun Booth opened up a huge lead in the first quarter which the Fire just could not reign in. Even Sharlene Hill and Wilfred were knocking down deep shots to hammer in the nails. Rhi Pears, Dan Crisp and big DJ didn't stop trying all night but the Strikers just kept knockin'em down. The Strikers, packed with youth, are the most improved team in 2020. Huge thank you to Denise, Charlie and Semilee who consistently get a Strikers team together. It will be great to see this team back next year to challenge the top tier teams. In a light hearted affair between fifth and sixth, it seemed that every player shot at least four three pointers. I think two went in. Those poor backboards haven't had a pounding like this since our last session of Basketball After Dark. Enough bricks were thrown up during this game to rebuild the Roman Coliseum three times over. A great spirited game, plenty of trick shots and plenty of laughs. Departing PCYC staffer, Steve Chivers nailed two beautiful threes from the corner late in the game. It would have been a fitting way to end his tenure here in Cloncurry but alas he threw up two more bricks as time expired. Nevertheless a huuuuuge shout out to Steve who has progressed basketball here in the Curry during his tenure. As Steve mentioned in his presentation speech, this competition has been the strongest yet. All the very best to Steve and his tribe as they head off on a new adventure. We are back in term two and three in 2021. Its a much more civilised time of the year to be playing ball.
06.01.2022 Netball Finals are here! Next week we'll see Team Wut facing PoPo & Co. in a playoff for 3rd place. This game tips off at 6pm. Straight after this game we will have the presentation to the 2020 best and fairest. ... Then at 7pm the young Central Cougars will take on the veteran Ball of Duty team. Will their youthful enthusiasm be enough to overcome the experienced stagers??? We are only 40 minutes away from finding out.

05.01.2022 Another enjoyable evening under balmy conditions at the Showground on Saturday night saw Quamby take on the Desert Ice. What a difference a week can make in sports as the Desert Ice batting lineup failed to fire while the Quamby bowling attack delivered. Despite some resistance from Steve Groenhuijzen and Joel 'The Zookeeper' Ferguson the Quamby bowling attack lead by Chris Fudali and Nathan Bye saw the Desert Ice team bundled out for 46. A great knock (no pun intended) from Aaron Harrison and Nick Hempel set the platform for a cruisey Quamby victory. Next week is the last game of the year. There will be a BBQ after the game. Look forward to seeing you there. Once again - if you're looking for a game, swing by at 6p and we'll sort you out.
