22.01.2022 Something useful during exams perhaps Recent studies suggest that memory and the ability to learn technical tasks may be improved when followed by aerobic exercise! In a study conducted by the University of Copenhagen a group of 48 young men were given a complicated task, which involved the use of short-term motor memory. Some participants were asked to complete an intense 15-minute bicycle ride before the activity whilst others did the same after. All were then tested on th...e task again an hour, day, and week later. Results showed an improved ability to memorise and master the technicalities of the task by those who exercised after as opposed to those who exercised before the task. So the implications are that aerobic exercise performed after mastering a new skill can improve the ability to register that skill into long-term memory. Although the research was limited to motor memory and was based on rather a small amount of data, it makes sense: Exercise stimulates blood flow- and the more oxygenated blood in the brain, the better it will function!

06.01.2022 PCYC Competition of the Month:- This time the competition is broken down into 3 different categories:- Start date: 13/07/2012 End Date: 26/07/2012 ... Senior Longest to balance on one leg with a 2kg fit ball until fail. Females Continues shoulder press with a 2kg medicine ball till fail. Males The longest to stay on an exercise bike and gradually increasing the level by 1 for every minute until client can no longer maintain 50 watts for over 5 seconds. Members that win their category will be able to bring in a Friend free for a MONTH!

04.01.2022 Tip of the day :- Turn off the TV whilst eating during your meals.Reports from a new study shows eating while viewing can make you take in 40 percent more calories than usual. And texting, driving, or any other distracting activity during a meal can also result in your eating too much. Instead, make each meal something you put on a plate and sit down to, even if youre eating by yourself.

03.01.2022 Cardio vs Resistance Training Tip Should cardio and weight training be performed on the same day, or will this limit muscle gains? Results published in The Journal of Applied Physiology and Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise (June 2012) showed that performing weight training and cardio in close proximity had no negative effects on muscular endurance, strength or muscle growth. As a matter of fact, the research, which was carried out on both active, young men and sedent...ary, middle-aged men showed that doing 50% less aerobic and resistance exercises on the same day produced the same results as doing full workouts devoted merely to one or the other. So combining your workout will increase metabolic rate, burn fat, put on lean mass, improve health and save time!
