19.01.2022 It was great to see so many young people at PCYC Wellington last week. The Friday Night youth group saw 35 young people attend for food and activities with club volunteers Corey, Jess and Aidan and Aboriginal liaison officer, Tee from Orana Mid-Western Police District. The club also ran an afternoon for aspiring young Indigenous basketball players in partnership with QUIT B FIT and WACHS. This was also supported by local NSW Police Force. 16.01.2022 PCYC Belmore celebrated the club's 65th birthday yesterday with members of the local community, Campsie Police Area Command, City of Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Khal Asfour, PCYC staff and cake! Club founding member, Gordon Bryan, shared some stories from the club's early days and presented manager, Andrew Shenouda, with a cheque for $10,000 from Campsie RSL Group. Gordon said he and his friends from the former Belmore Technical College used the club as a place to hang out, pl...ay sports and attend Monday night dances and concerts. "PCYC Belmore was a really important part of my teenage years and it's great to see it is still keeping young people safe and happy," he said. Detective Sergeant Donna O'Mally acknowledged the longstanding relationship between the NSW Police Forceand PCYC NSW and said she was pround of the #RISEUP strategy collaboration. The Pickleball Seniors Group at Nelson Bay is planning a dinking (not drinking!) session on Thursday, 8 October between 1 and 3pm ahead of official World Pickleball Day on 10 October. Pickleball is such a big sport in Nelson Bay that the club received a grant to install three permanent pickleball courts on the existing indoor basketball court. 16.01.2022 After a packed 10 week schedule for the Ngyalia Fit Together Indigenous program at PCYC Bateau Bay with Tuggerah Lakes Police District, 12 of the young participants enjoyed a well-deserved break with a 'beach to bush' experience. They all enjoyed a step away from the class rooms to go hiking, surfing and swimming. The Fit Together Indigenous program includes a work-ready module and presentations, including information on domestic violence. The club would like to say a huge thank you to Sally and the team at Petries Mitre 10 - Gunnedah, The Rotary Club of Gunnedah, Rising Sun Dojo - Gunnedah and PCYC staff and children for coming together to create a fantastic garden at the front of the club. 10.01.2022 The Woollo Wolves girls boxing class at PCYC City of Sydney had a very special visitor yesterday. Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC Governor of New South Wales dropped in to pass on her good wishes to Cody Puohotaua, who will be competing in the Boxing Australia Championship in Adelaide next week. Cody will be competing in the Novice Junior Women category with competitors from across Australia Her Excellency watched the girls run through their regular train...ing session and encouraged them to keep active and involved. Woollo Wolves is run by PCYC City of Sydney Club Patron and Boxing Coach Bruce Collins, and is aimed at creating a safe, inclusive space for young women to re-engage with their community. PCYC Taree club manager, Justin Hayes said that throughout the uncertain and unusual year the dedication and enthusiasm of the PCYC Taree athletes remained constant. "The coaches have missed sharing competition and performance events with their teams and are determined to have a special event for the PCYC Gymnastics family to look forward to. 03.01.2022 The last day of PCYC Parramatta's school holiday program was spent in the sun at Arthur Phillip High School with Russell Dawson from Koomurri Aboriginal Incersions. The kids learnt how to make clay paint for their faces, had a go at throwing a boomerang, and made some traditional aboriginal music. They were joined by PCYC Parramatta Youth Liason Officer, Senior Constable Elie El-Jammal, who left with face paint and a new hairstyle. ...
