24.01.2022 A letter from the NSW Education Standards Authority CEO Paul Martin Dear colleagues, I want to start by acknowledging the effort of our teachers this Term. ...Your resilience, creativity and initiative in delivering engaging lessons and continuity of learning for students of all years, across new channels, has been extraordinary. We are acutely aware of the concerns felt by teachers, principals, students and their parents, particularly those working towards their #HSC credential this year. Already the NESA COVID-19 Response Committee has made changes to the HSC, placing the health and safety of students and their teachers above all else. In making these adjustments, the Committee is working to ensure that all students will be assessed fairly and equitably as they work towards their HSC. The Committee met again today to consider HSC major projects in Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, Textiles and Design and Visual Arts, recognising that presently, some HSC students do not have access to the same resources as others to complete their work. The Committee will take more time to consult with stakeholders and consider additional expert advice to decide the fairest approach to major works in these areas. It will meet again before the end of the holidays to make a decision about major projects. Be assured, that advice from the Committee will remain ongoing, with NESA placing health, safety and equity at the forefront of decision-making. Our COVID-19 support team is available from 9am to 5pm on business days. Call: 1300 138 323 Email: [email protected] Finally, thank you again, following what has been the most challenging Term in our collective memories. Teachers, principals and school support staff across NSW have kept the state running and maintained a sense of calm and resilience in the eyes of our students. I am grateful to you all and will continue to keep you updated in Term 2. Have a safe and healthy break. Yours sincerely, Paul Martin Chief Executive Officer #NESA National Catholic Education Commission Ccsp Nsw
23.01.2022 National Catholic Education Commission Media Release: Catholic education welcomes National Principles for School Education response to COVID-19 The Catholic edu...cation sector has welcomed the National Principles for School Education response to COVID-19 agreed at the National Cabinet today. National Catholic Education Commission Executive Director, Jacinta Collins, said the National Principles reiterate the commitment of federal, state and territory governments for the continuation of quality schooling for Australian children during the COVID-19 pandemic. The National Principles show a continued commitment by governments to ensure Australian students receive a high quality education, while allowing for the delivery of remote schooling as needed during the pandemic, Ms Collins said. They also recognise the need to ensure the health and safety of students, teachers and staff. The first priority for all Catholic schools is the health and safety of students and staff, and as such, the Catholic sector is monitoring and responding quickly to the advice of federal, state and territory governments and health authorities. Catholic schools will continue to remain open for students who need to attend, and provide remote learning to ensure that all students can continue their schooling during this period. We are supporting students and families through fee relief and the provision of devices, internet connectivity or other measures, to ensure students can access learning in the best way possible. Our school communities are to be commended on how they are responding to both the educational and health challenges arising from the pandemic, Ms Collins said. Catholic education will continue to work with governments over the coming weeks to enable students to return to classroom learning as soon as practicable. Nationally, Catholic schools educate more than 764,000 students or one in five Australian students - in 1,746 schools, the vast majority of which are low-fee schools. #CathEdau #Covid19 #NSWEducation

22.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE: NSW Catholic Schools Prepare for Term Two Leaders in Catholic Education have agreed that Catholic schools will continue with out of school learni...ng for the commencement of Term 2. School and System leaders will communicate the timetable for students returning to classrooms during the early weeks of term. The return to face-to-face learning will be an orderly transition, Catholic Schools NSW Chief Executive Officer Dallas McInerney said today. Principals and schools will communicate details to their families, in most circumstances the first two weeks will be for at home learning. He added that decisions will be informed by public health advice, as opportunities arise for a return to normal school operations, they will be taken. Mr McInerney indicated that local conditions require local decisions by System Leaders and principals who are well placed to make these judgements, it is important that schools have this flexibility. Some year groups and school localities will be candidates for an earlier return to the classroom than others, for example year 11 and 12. It is also important for early age groups to stay attached to their learning he said. We will continue to engage with the NSW Department of Education and NSW Education Standards Authority to progress the return of face-to-face learning. Catholic Education acknowledges the ongoing access to government procurement opportunities for hygiene supplies and personal protective equipment. Mr McInerney said that our teachers and school communities have delivered an enormous amount of innovation of online resources and this work should be respected. We support the cross-sectoral working group announced by the Premier today. It is an important initiative that will help identify the most important and valuable aspects of this work and assess how it can form part of the future of schooling in NSW.* Catholic Schools NSW represents the states 598 Catholic schools, which educate some 255,000 students. *Greg Whitby, the Executive Director of Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta, will be the Catholic Sector Representative. 22.01.2022 The latest information and advice about COVID-19 (coronavirus) is as follows: Any student or staff member who has been in, or transited through, mainland China... (not just Hubei province), Iran or South Korea is excluded from work, school or child care services for 14 days from the date they left mainland China, Iran or South Korea (as the COVID-19 incubation period can be as long as two weeks). While there is currently no ban on travellers from Italy, there are now enhanced screening processes for travellers from that country. Any confirmed case of COVID-19 will be excluded from school or workplaces until they are medically cleared to return. Anyone who has had close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 will be excluded for 14 days since last contact with the confirmed case. Students and staff who have returned to Australia from mainland China or Iran more than 14 days ago and have shown no symptoms are able to return to school. To support the continued health and wellbeing of students, staff and school communities, hygiene and good handwashing is very important. 07.01.2022 A letter to all involved in Catholic Education Catholic Schools and COVID-19: Be Not Afraid Dear Colleagues... A popular addition to the Catholic canon is the hymn written in 1975 by a Jesuit Priest, Father Bob Dufford, Be not afraid. While the hymn has become a mainstay for people confronting sorrow or fear; Father Dufford wrote the song seeking strength and guidance during a period of transition, in his case: towards his own holy ordination. Catholic Schools have been propelled into an unexpected cycle of rapid transition as our classrooms empty in response to the pandemic, returning to an era of home-based education and formation. As unsettling as this is for our teachers and school communities, Ive no doubt that Catholic education can rise to meet this challenge in our 200th year of Ministry. There is the obvious point that this pandemic arrives in an era where technology has never been more able to support out of school learning for students who so effortlessly carry the mantle of the digital generation. However its not just technology which guarantees that we are more prepared than our current difficulties allow us to believe - our Catholic Faith and its treasury of tradition comes into full providence at this time. This pandemic has given us a problem for which we already have an answer. As our students open their text books or Zoom into a lesson from their own homes, most likely with their parents or carers by their sides, we recall that we have always believed parents to be the primary educators of their children. It is parents who have responsibility to reveal the wonder of Gods world. As COVID -19 sharply orientates us to this core belief, so let us pray for the graces of wisdom, fortitude and perseverance to respond as both Catholic educators and a Catholic Faith Community. We dont know for how long these new arrangements will be in place, but we do know that the resources required and the experience will be very difficult for many of our families. So be assured that in every representation CSNSW makes to Government, a Department, a Minister, a Premier or the Prime Minister, I will insist that all policy responses consider the varying circumstances of our families and have equity as a non-negotiable concern - no child should be left behind. Finally, for our teachers, this week will be like no other in their professional lives, as will the next period of time through this transition, let us remember the gift of Father Duffords hymn reminding us of Christs promise: Be Not Afraid, I go before you always Come follow me Yours in Christ, Dallas McInerney CEO Catholic Schools NSW

06.01.2022 MEDIA RELEASE: 2020 HSC exam timetables now available The 2020 HSC written exam timetable was released today for the 75,000 students sitting the exams this year.... NESA Chief Executive Officer Paul Martin said the timetable would provide the certainty that students, teachers and parents have been looking for around the HSC. Students have known that the HSC would be going ahead and this timetable provides the certainty many have been seeking about when their exams will take place, Mr Martin said. This timetable starts five days later giving students some extra time at school after the Autumn holiday period while keeping to the original timeframe for releasing results. I want to reassure parents and students that the exams will be conducted in line with the expert health advice at the time of the exams, which are still five months away. NSW schools are supporting the return of HSC students to the classroom from this week with HSC students receiving on average three to four days at school each week. I trust that now students have a definitive plan and timing for the exams that they can focus on achieving their best as they return to school, Mr Martin said. 120 written exams will start with English on 20 October and 51 oral language exams will start on 15 August. Students will receive their HSC results on 18 December. All 2020 HSC students can access their personalised exam timetables via their Students Online account via https://studentsonline.nesa.nsw.edu.au/ from 10am today. The 2020 HSC written exam timetable will also be available on the NESA website from 10am. 04.01.2022 As announced by the NSW Government yesterday, school students will gradually return to school from Week 3 of Term 2 with the approach based on the needs of each... community. The hope is that full student attendance might be possible by the beginning of Term 3. Of course, this objective is subject to health advice and government policy. In the first two weeks of Term 2, learning will be delivered to students in the same way it was provided in the last weeks of Term 1. Schools remain open and parents and carers who need to send their children to school can still do so; however, the State Governments directive to parents to keep their children home, if practical, still applies. As recommended by the Premier, our schools will have two days at the beginning of Term 2 (Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 April) to plan for the gradual return of students in Week 3. Of course, supervision will be provided at school for students who need to attend school on these days. Learning and teaching will resume on Wednesday 29 April. We will share with you as soon as possible further information about the practical arrangements commencing in Week 3 Term 2. The health and safety and our students and staff continue to be our highest priority. Read more here: https://www.parra.catholic.edu.au/News%20and%/Announcements.

01.01.2022 A message for Year 12 #HSC students from the Federal Minister for Education The Hon Dan Tehan MP The work you will do in Year 12 this year is incredibly import...ant and your results will be as valuable as any previous year. COVID-19 will take a lot from our nation but it wont take all your hard work over your years of education. All education ministers met today through Education Council and we agreed that: Year 12 students will get a leaving certificate for 2020. There will be no Year 13. There will be no mass repeating of Year 12. We want Year 12 students to finish their education and next year go to university, undertake vocational training or enter the workforce. Each state and territory is responsible for their government schools and is also responsible for awarding senior secondary certificates in their jurisdiction. It was agreed that every state and territory would follow national principles to support local decisions. #cathedau #year12 #covid19 #coronavirus Ccsp Nsw National Catholic Education Commission
