08.01.2022 It is time for some enlighten/education to all patients that I see still using whitening products at home and charcoal based powder or toothpastes. Lots of companies recently have come up with this products more and more advertisment each day stating "scientific research". However they forget to mention the side effects and possible risks for your teeth. Charchoal products marketed towards teeth whitening are really increased on 2020/2021. They are shown to remove stain from ...the outer layer of tooth structure and the colour contrast make teeth appear "whiter". Just like wearing red lipstick. As dental proffessional we are seeing a dramatic increase in enamel wear from the long term use of charcoal products. Enamel is the outer layer of tooth structure and unfortunately one of the only structure of human body that can not repair itself. Once enamel wear you can not regrow it or repair it!! Exssesive enamel wear lead to transulecency. It shows the underlayer of the tooth structure which is dentine. DENTINE is bright yellow. When you are to this stage, you can not even whiten proffessionally your teeth annymore and the only way to improve will be aesthetic comprehensive dental work such as Venners.
