23.01.2022 Talk for Writing (T4W), is an evidence-based program designed to teach children how to write narrative and expository texts; it was developed by Pie Corbett, a ...British educational researcher, whose adage is, "If you can't say it, you can't write it!". We are really excited to announce that Emily Jackson (WA Speech Pathologist and Talk for Writing trainer from DSF) is going to present a 2 day workshop specifically designed for Speech Pathologists (and SP students). Emily will teach us how to use this powerful strategy at Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels. T4W is powerful because it is based on the principles of how children learn; it is powerful because it enables children to imitate the language they need for a particular topic at an oral level before reading and analysing it and then writing their own version of it. Dates: 24th and 31st March 2021 Venue: The Hub - Lakeside Recreation Centre Corner Farrington Road and Bibra Drive, Entry off Bibra Drive, North Lake , WA 6163 Sessions run from 8.30am to 1.00pm each day The Early bird Registration is $355 (until 3rd March 2021) but $400 after that date. 14.01.2022 Our Speech Pathologist colleagues work in some amazing places. In an episode of Surgeons: At the Edge of Life S2 E1 One False Move, a patient needed to be awake and talking during brain surgery so his neurosurgeon could remove as much of his tumour as possible. A Speech Pathologist was in the operating theatre to assess his speech during the operation. The episode was aired on the Lifestyle Channel https://www.lifestyle.com.au//surgeons-at-th/episode.aspx

13.01.2022 Courtney, the owner of @reallyusefulrecyclersWA uses his Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) device to talk about his products with Sara, his speech pathologist here at Peach Speech Pathology. If you happen to see Courtney at one of his market stalls, make sure to take time out to chat with him about his business. He makes some pretty cool stuff, and has been learning how to use his device to chat with customers!

10.01.2022 Many of our therapists are creative souls - like Sara! These are some earrings she made as a Christmas gift inspired by Peach Speechies. The Peach Speech Reach program will be starting a small 'Reach Shop' that supports local businesses, including those run by and for people with disabilities. We look forward to launching this early next year.

09.01.2022 Peach Speech Pathology will open our doors and provide services again as of the 6th of February, with masks and safety measures in place. We will be in contact with those with sessions this week with further information. We look forward to seeing you all again.

05.01.2022 An interesting read... Article published in The West Australian, Saturday 14th November, 2020

05.01.2022 It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at Peach... 1 month to go!

04.01.2022 Peach have started using https://www.brandonsshreddingboxes.com.au/ for all our shredding needs. Brandon is a young man with Autism, who after completing school began looking for employment opportunities. After being unable to find a job that could accommodate his special needs, with the help of his mum Simone, started a small paper shredding business called Brandon’s Shredding Boxes. Brandon offers small sized bins (he calls boxes) to homes and local businesses in the area. The boxes are used for discarded office paper that had previously gone into their regular bins and was not recycled. Get in touch with this local business supporting people with disabilities if you think you could use this great service!

04.01.2022 Double celebrations! Jaimi-Lee and Sam had their birthdays this week! Hope you both enjoyed your special days

03.01.2022 James' story highlights the importance of continuing to support all of our clients, even out of childhood, to give them a voice. James is on the Autism Spectrum and it was his speech that made staff at a venue think he was drunk. In the interview, James remarked, I just want the message to be out there that we may be different but shouldn't have to be in fear of discrimination." The maturity James has shown by speaking out and bringing awareness to this issue is a credit to himself, his family and those in his support network. https://www.abc.net.au//brass-monkey-hotel-refus/12867032

02.01.2022 New resource alert! The We Thinkers! series is used to help our clients build social and life skills through stories, lessons, and play activities. The teachings help kids better understand themselves and others, develop self-awareness, perspective taking, social problem solving, and supports students’ social-emotional learning, relationship building, classroom learning, and academic performance.

01.01.2022 It's been a delayed start to the 2021 school year but we wish all our school-aged clients a great first term packed full of fun and learning!
