24.01.2022 Good morning everyone, we tried to post last week and it wouldnt go through, dont know why. So here it is! This message is for all the expectant parents to ...be, in particular the mums. Whether you are a first time mum or not, you probably have a list of things to do. Is your own dental care on that list? Your dental health has a big impact on your overall health which in turn has a major influence on the health of your baby. Just last week we had an expectant mum come in for a check-up. Why, because her midwife thought she should. Due in 7 weeks, best wishes to mum, dad and the new bub from Peachtree Dental Surgery. Your dentist should be an active part of your healthcare team in the lead-up, during and after your pregnancy. Hormonal fluctuations during pregnancy can exacerbate problems with your teeth and gums so you should maintain regular check-ups and cleanings. Your dentist is well-versed in which medications you can safely take while pregnant and which procedures can be safely done at different stages. Food cravings and morning sickness are a fact of life for many during pregnancy. Try, yes we did say try, a healthier option such as fresh fruit and natural yoghurt. If you experience morning sickness, vomit is highly acidic and can cause irreversible damage to your teeth. As tempted as you might be to clean your teeth straight away, leave it for an hour, the acid and brushing too soon can strip away the enamel. Just rinse your mouth with water, chew sugar-free gum or drink some milk or eat some hard cheese. All the very best to you all. If you would like a check-up, give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into our Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads surgery and we can make an appointment for you.

If you need to visit a dentist, we will make sure we look after you, give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop in to the surgery at Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads to make an appointment. Enjoy the weekend everyone and smile Peachtree Dental Surgery is also sending best wishes to those who have been effected by the fires. Fingers crossed for some rain soon

20.01.2022 Hi everyone and this week we are talking about toddlers and their teeth. If you're the parent of a toddler, yep, full-speed ahead for your bundle of energy. ...Getting them to do anything can be a challenge, especially getting them to brush their hair, wash their face or clean their teeth. Yep, a huge challenge! What about if you tell them to go play, no hesitation, off they go. What a special time when your baby gets their first toothy peg and maybe they are a little small to teach at that stage but it is important that you as their parent teach them early on that they need to look after their teeth and gums. How do you teach them, by you cleaning their teeth for them. Initially using just cold water on a soft children's toothbrush and then introduce toothpaste from around 18 months of age. Gently brush each tooth and massage the gum using a soft, circular motion. Silly as it sounds, flossing is also a great idea. Make brushing their teeth a game, find a toothbrush with their favourite TV character, kids always have favourite shows. Kids do put up a fight when told to clean their teeth but the reality is if it's not done regularly, tooth decay can set it, with a host of painful problems. Try to limit their sugary foods and drinks and with twice-daily brushing and flossing, regular visits to the dentist, smiles all round! Early dental visits will help protect your child from tooth decay and it might also show you what is the best way to clean their teeth. It is a shame when a child has to come to the dentist and they are scared, start early so they get use to the dental environment. Plus if your child/children are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Scheme from the age of two, it won't cost you anything. If you or your children need a check-up, give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into Peachtree Dental Surgery, Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads and we can make an appointment for you. Have a great weekend everyone

19.01.2022 Yes, well it is here again, Im sure you are all sick of me saying that but guess what, the weekend is here again so ENJOY IT. Enjoy the weekend though everyone and take care.

19.01.2022 Hi everyone. Hope you've all had a great week and fingers crossed for some more rain this weekend. Whether you use a manual toothbrush or an electric, it doesn't matter as long as you use it. Electric toothbrushes are great, you just hold it against your teeth and let it do all the hard work. If you use a manual brush, that's fine but don't brush to hard. Give your tongue a little clean as well. Once again, don't forget to floss!... We still have some appointments available between now and Christmas so if you would like to brighten that smile for the Christmas photo's, give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into the Estuary Lane, Nambucca Head surgery. Have a great weekend everyone.

19.01.2022 To all our patients and friends, Peter and the team at Peachtree Dental Surgery will be closed from 23/12/2019 until 10/01/2020. Back to work on 13/01/2020. Take care everyone, Merry Christmas and we wish you all a safe and happy New Year. ... Best wishes from Peter, Tracey, Georgia & Jenny

18.01.2022 Good morning everyone. Good news, the Australian Dental Association has advised dental procedures are back to normal. Obviously we will still practice safe distance, when possible in a dental practice. If you need a simple checkup and clean or a more involved procedure, we can help. Give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into our Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads surgery. 16.01.2022 Hello everyone and welcome to another weekend. Dont forget its a LONG weekend, extra sleep-in for some on Monday. It is also time to put your clocks forward on Sunday night, 6th October for daylight savings. Some love it, some loathe it, Im in the love it category, go for a walk , mow the lawn, (dont love that so much) all after work. Back to the weekend! Extra day this weekend to enjoy a catch-up with family and friends but dont over do it.... The sugar and acidity of alcohol and soft drinks are major contributors to teeth erosion. You can still enjoy a great night out partying but dont forget to drink some water. Alcohol dehydrates you, this affects how much saliva you mouth produces, and hence, how much protections your teeth are given. And when you get home, dont just stumble into bed, brush your teeth, protect them and they will protect you, oral cancer not something to enjoy. How about our flowers, arent they just beautiful. Wish my hippies would grow like that! Thank you to Edith and Warren, a lovely couple sharing their love of gardening for others to enjoy. Do you need an appointment, give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into Peachtree Dental Surgery, Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads and we can find a suitable time for you. Enjoy the weekend everyone, have fun but protect your teeth.

14.01.2022 Do you know about Fair Health Care Alliance? It is a newly formed partnership between the Australian Dental Association (ADA) and The Fair Health Care Alliance (FHA) which equips dental practices the ability to refer their patients to seek assistance to address poor performing health fund policies. FHA offers you a personalised comparison services to assess your needs and matches you with a health fund policy to meet your requirements. It does not restrict choice of provider... through discriminatory rebates. Even if you dont have a current health fund, we can refer you to FHA to get some guidance for what will suit you best. Following your appointment at Peachtree Dental Surgery, if you would like the FHA to contact you, just let the reception desk know and we will arrange a date and time for FHA to contact you. Do you need an appointment for a check up, clean or something more, give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into our Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads dental surgery.

14.01.2022 Well its nearly the end of the week, hope everyone has a great weekend planned. Some of us can relax and enjoy the break but we still need to care for your teeth and that includes flossing at least once a day. So dont just floss because you have something in your teeth, like a corn kernel , floss everyday, brush twice a day and see your dentist every six months.

13.01.2022 Dont let your teeth be a reason not to smile. If you need an appointment to make your smile lovely and bright, give us a call on 0265689001.

11.01.2022 Even Dr Seuss knew the importance of our teeth. Brushing your teeth twice a day for at least two minutes each time. Try 30 seconds in each quarter of your mouth, now thats not too hard. You will see the reward! How you brush is important, start at the back with the toothbrush bristle at the gumline or at a 45 degree angle, brush gently in a circular motion and finish with a spit, not a rinse. If you have an electric toothbrush, just guide your brush slowly from tooth to to...oth following the contours of your teeth and the curve of your gums. Give your tongue a little brush as well. Regardless of the brush you use, avoid brushing with too much force so you dont damage the tooth surface. As for toothpaste, dont waste it, just a pea size amount on your brush will do the job. Do you need a checkup, a clean or something else. Give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into Peachtree Dental Surgery, Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads and we can find a suitable time for you. Whatever you are doing this weekend, playing sport, going to a party, or just having a relaxing time , have a great weekend everyone. PS: dont forget to floss!

11.01.2022 Last week we ended with the words dont forget to floss. Why, because we meant it, it is an important part of caring for your teeth. Did you know nearly half the surface area of your teeth is between them! So just brushing is not cleaning all the tooth surface. Flossing will remove the plaque from between your teeth, it is also helping to prevent gum disease, tooth decay and halitosis. What is that you say, well its bad breath. No one wants that! How do you do it? Well..., wind about 45 cm of floss around your middle finger and rest it across your thumbs and index fingers. Use a gentle up-and-down motion between your teeth, going down just under the little collar of the gum and then back up the other side. If you dont want to use the flossing cord you can use a floss pick to do the job. It is one thing to make flossing a part of your dental routine, it is quite another to do it properly. If you are not sure, make an appointment with Peter, have a check up and a good clean and get him to show you how to floss properly. If you need an appointment, give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into Peachtree Dental Surgery, Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads and we can make an appointment for you. Have a great weekend everyone, take care, be safe.

07.01.2022 Do you know about the Australian Governments Child Dental Benefits! This benefit provides up to $1,000 over 2 calendar years to pay for the costs of basic dental service for some children. To be eligible, children need to be aged between 2 and 17 years, eligible for Medicare and also getting a particular Australia government payment, such as the Family Tax Benefit Part A. Parents, you can check by phoning Medicare on 132011 or check online via your myGov account. Even if your child doesnt have any current dental problems, early visits can ensure their teeth are growing correctly and they also become familiar with the dentist. Call us to make an appointment on 0265689001.

04.01.2022 Did you know, the need for dental care increases as people age? Of course you did! Deteriorating health, cognition and mobility can leave them unable to maintain good dental hygiene and more vulnerable to oral disease. The elderly commonly experience tooth decay, gum disease (gingivitis) and a dry mouth, often a side effect from taking medications. You can prevent or manage these problems through maintaining daily oral hygiene, regular visits to your dentist for checkups ...and cleans and an overall oral health assessment. Poor oral health can impact on your general health, your speech, nutrition, sleep and even just socialising with friends. It can cause pain, discomfort and infections, is linked to higher risk of heart disease, stroke and aspiration pneumonia and can also complicate illnesses like diabetes. Eating and drinking for good oral health will also help. We dont want you to stop having that biscuit or two, having a sweet now and again but dont forget there are great healthy snacks like yogurt, fruit and vegetable sticks. Also, have a drink of water after eating, tap water with fluoride will protect against tooth decay. Brush your teeth morning and night, dont forget to include the gums and tongue. Keep your mouth moist, drink water and regular dental visits are important. Do you or do you have a loved one that needs a dental check-up. Give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into Peachtree Dental Surgery, Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads and we can make an appointment for them. Our thoughts are with all the fire fighters out there doing a great job. Thank you and keep safe. Have a great weekend everyone.

04.01.2022 Remember when you were young, enjoyed life, not a care in the world. Well for some, not caring came back to bite them in their later years. It is great to be able to go out and enjoy life, have fun but dont take the fun out of it by not looking after yourself. A healthy lifestyle begins and ends with making sure you eat fruit and vegies and get some exercise. Taking a selfie with you and your friends is not quite the same if you cant smile. Smoking, drinking, pres...cribed and non-prescribed medications, illicit drugs, tongue and lip piercing and stress have a significant effect on how healthy your teeth and gums are and how healthy you are overall. Not everyone has perfectly white teeth but add the staining and discolouration from smoking, NO THANKS. Smoking has been linked teeth loss, bone shrinkage and inhibits the production of the right kind of saliva. Did you know alcohol dehydrates you? This also affects how much saliva you mouth produces, saliva is good, it protects your teeth. Add some water to your night out and the next day you will remember that you had a great night. Dont just fall into bed when you get home, brush your teeth. Illicit drugs, tongue piercings and stress are also areas that affect our younger adults. Drugs will have behavioural effects, can lead to tooth grinding and rapid tooth decay. Piercings might look good but can let bacteria in, lead to swelling and infection not only in your mouth. Stress, well the list is long! So if you are in the older teen, young adult age group, enjoy life but look after yourself. Have your regularly dental checkups so you can keep smiling. Give us a call on 02 65689001 or drop into Peachtree Dental Surgery, Estuary Lane, Nambucca Heads and we will arrange an appointment for you. Once again to all those fire fighters , thank you for looking out for everyone. We greatly appreciate that you give your time to care for our community. Take care everyone!
