25.01.2022 Peach Tree is a Peer Led perinatal mental health organisation. Any staff member you interact with at Peach Tree, you can be reassured that they "get it"... because weve all been there too! You may have noticed all the beautiful photographs we have been using lately. We are very proud to say that these photographs are all from our amazing Peach Tree staff members and their babies. Women and men who have been down in the dark trenches of mental health and having a baby....s...ometimes more than once....and have crawled out the other side. Sure, sometimes we slip back into the trenches (there is no quick and easy fix) but we know we will get through it again, because weve done it before. Because the beautiful silver lining in perinatal mental illness, is the self awareness you find. The knowledge that you CAN and WILL get through this. The understanding of what you need to do to help yourself. We know that if we take proactive steps to take care of ourself, ride it out day by day, that eventually a day will come and we can look back and realise we dont feel as bad as we used to. The feeling of HOPE is one of the most important things for mental health recovery, yet the illness itself makes you feel hopeless. But...we know you can get through this! At Peach Tree, we hold onto your hope for you, until you re-find it yourself. Join one of our peer support groups for mothers experiencing stress, anxiety or depression. Make your booking here: www.peachtree.org.au/bookings/ Join us over at Peach Tree Parents https://www.facebook.com/groups/peachtreeparents

25.01.2022 "The Mask of Motherhood" - Sometimes we are reluctant to talk honestly about our mothering experiences for fear well be seen or judged as "bad" mothers. So instead, we pop on our "Everything is fine!" mask and keep on trudging on. Looking fine and put together on the outside, but feeling broken and alone on the inside WHAT IS A "JUST PEACHY" GROUP? Our JUST PEACHY groups are for expecting mothers, and mothers who have children aged 0 - 5 years of age. JUST PEACHY is a ...mothers group - but it is so much more than a mothers group too. Mothers need to feel supported and have solidarity with other mothers. We need to talk about what we are going through without shame and fear. Let our guards down and be real and honest. You might be surprised how much better youll feel once you find a village of women who "get it" and you dont have to pretend! www.peachtree.org.au/bookings/ Our JUST PEACHY groups are safe guarded by our Perinatal Mental Health Peer Workers who have LIVED EXPERIENCE and understand what its like to take the Mask off and find support. What happens at a JUST PEACHY group? Much the same as what would happen at a mainstream mothers group. We talk about our babies, we laugh at stupid stuff, we whinge about the mundane stuff. But we also acknowledge the difficult and scary stuff too. We dont have to hide our pain and mask our truth. If you are pregnant, or a parent of an infant or young child, and feel like you arent coping - we welcome you with open arms at JUST PEACHY. Theres no obligation at a Just Peachy group. You dont have to share anything you feel uncomfortable sharing. Just listening and being amongst a supportive environment can help. The beautiful thing about being a member of a JUST PEACHY group, is that we end up not only receiving support, but giving it too. We all have good days and bad days. On the bad days, we are held by the group and on our good days, we lift the group. This is peer support. We now offer JUST PEACHY groups in three locations across Brisbane (Geebung, Morayfield and Springwood) and now we also offer them ONLINE and accessible to all! A booking process is currently in place for our face to face groups, to help us manage numbers and social distancing. www.peachtree.org.au/bookings/ Our JUST PEACHY groups are FREE, because we believe that ALL mothers who need support, deserve support. Come find us

23.01.2022 DAY 6 - GRIEF & LOSS The story of grief and loss related to pregnancy, birth and early infancy is unfortunately one that is far too common. We also know bereaved parents experience statistically higher rates of depression and anxiety. Pregnancy and parenting after a loss is also a really challenging experience. Although a baby may no longer be earthside, they never leave your heart and you carry that love with you forever. ... As a Lived Experience Workforce, many of our Peer Support Workers have their own stories around how their mental health and wellbeing was dramatically impacted by grief and loss. If you are thinking about coming to Peach Tree for help and support around this issue, please know you are not alone. We are here, we are listening. https://youtu.be/N0EhjRlwGjQ #peachyparents #pmhweek

21.01.2022 DAY 5 - TRAUMA Trauma can lead to a wide range of mental health challenges, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression. In Australia, 1 in 3 women identify their birth experiences as traumatic. In some cases PTSD and postnatal depression and anxiety can occur together. However, the key differences are that PTSD is defined by feeling unsafe and postnatal depression is characterised by a sense of hopelessness. ... Trauma can affect how you feel about yourself and how you feel about others. This can be particularly impactful in the perinatal period, where relationships with partners, family and babies are very important for ongoing health and wellbeing. However you feel, please know that there are some great organisations that are able to support you. Peach Tree was created to support parents going through any and all mental health challenges while also being pregnant and/or parenting infants and young children. We welcome with open arms anyone who is seeking validation for their feelings and support while they are receiving treatment. Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. Our community is waiting for you! https://youtu.be/hBSCK0nbCwU

17.01.2022 DAY 7 - SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE Peach Tree is here to support you. We talk a lot about being Peer Led and about our Lived Experience. But what does that mean?... It means that every one of our staff use their life experiences - their struggles with their mental health and finding their path to overcome it - to connect in a completely transparent, honest and authentic manner. The research supporting Peer Support is strong. We know the people who receive peer support as part of their recovery journey, feel less alone, less stigmatised, and more confident to help seek. Feeling validated and valued is a right that everyone is entitled to! This is why we will continue to advocate for genuine, non-clinical professional lived experience led support services to be embedded into the health system. If you are experiencing emotional or mental health challenges, and are feeling alone and lost, come and find us at Peach Tree. 15.01.2022 Its Birth Trauma Awareness Week 2020! We see a lot of Mums and Dads at Peach Tree that identify birth trauma as a contributing factor that is impacting on their mental wellbeing. So, what is birth trauma? Check out our friends over at Australasian Birth Trauma Association (ABTA) who are sharing some informative and heart provoking stuff. ... "We, at ABTA, define birth trauma as a wound, serious injury or damage it can be physical or psychological (deeply upsetting and distressing) or a combination of both. Both mother and the father/partner can be affected by birth trauma." #starttheconversation You can support the work of ABTA by: Register for a virtual walk https://fundraise.birthtrauma.org.au/event/walkntalk/home Purchase a #starttheconversation t-shirt https://www.redbubble.com//54578433-the-abta-start-the-con

08.01.2022 When I ask friends and family what they see in this picture, they see a love between mother and son, like a photo for a Huggies centre fold in a magazine - buy Huggies and you too could be this happy! When I had this photo taken I was on my downwards spiral in to what I thought was an endless dark tunnel of postnatal depression and anxiety. Sometimes pictures cant say a thousand words , that our precious moments have been tainted.... I now have this picture displayed on my wall alongside many other photos, as a daily reminder of growth, strength and appreciation that what ever the world throws at me , I am my inspiration , I am my strength, I am my courage and I am unbeatable. Sometimes we just need to believe in ourselves, self care and ask for help . Its amazing what one person can do and I am proud that I can help mums achieve this too, but mostly I am proud of me. 08.01.2022 We are hearing a lot of stories from mums who have been pregnant and given birth during COVID-19 feeling like they havent had the opportunity to meet and connect with mothers groups and playgroups like they would normally have in usual circumstances. Unfortunately, the knock on effect of this is having an impact on the social and emotional wellbeing of mothers and babies. Good news....... Our JUST PEACHY groups, are for mothers who are identifying that they need a little more support right now. Its normal to feel a little "wobbly" right now, and chatting to other mothers in the same boat can help reduce those feelings of isolation. We are offering these groups both face to face in our Brisbane locations, or online for anyone unable to attend face to face. Our COMMUNITY GROUPS are open for all mothers, fathers and children aged 0 - 5 years, who are seeking social connection. We are now running them across three locations in Brisbane (Morayfield, Geebung and Springwood). All of our groups are completely FREE of charge. However, to comply with COVID measures, bookings are necessary! It is led by Phil and Tony, our Peer Support Workers, who are in the thick of it like you and can share stories from their own lived experience of fatherhood challenges. Because Dads need support too! Dads Branch @ Peach Tree FB page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/dadbrainpeersupport/

04.01.2022 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: We have made the very difficult decision to cancel our Springwood (Logan) groups tomorrow, until we can gauge further implications of todays COVID-19 cases in Brisbane South. We feel that it is of utmost importance that Peach Tree have a responsibility to ensuring a safe work environment for our staff, and not to put our community (ie you guys!) at risk.... We will see how the situation unfolds over the next few days, and re-assess appropriately. We will let you know on the weekend as to what the situation will be regarding Springwood groups on Tuesday. Please note - so far this decision is only impacting on our Springwood (Logan) site. Groups at Geebung and Morayfield will be as usual. We take this opportunity to remind everyone and urge: if you or your child is feeling unwell, or showing any symptoms (no matter how mild) please stay at home! You can still access support with Peach Tree through our online and telephone support options. please try and keep physical distancing in place as best we can (we know this can be difficult with active toddlers!) practice good hygiene, including handwashing and using hand sanitiser (which are provided at all sites). Our staff are ensuring we keep a vigilant cleaning process, and we are regularly cleaning and disinfecting our premises (at all locations). We sincerely hope that this announcement - rather than be anxiety provoking - is reassuring to you that we are doing everything in our power to protect our community. Keep safe all

03.01.2022 Todays post is all about celebrating our own Peachy team! https://peachtree.org.au/ourteam/ Head over to our website to see the friendly faces and names behind the organisation! Weve paired our headshots with our favourite quotes ... Whats awfully special about our team, is that each and every one of us has our own "Lived Experience" with perinatal mental health and wellbeing - and it is the richness of these experiences which inform every single decision and action taken in our service. The richness of staff experiences includes (but not limited to) ..... - antenatal depression and anxiety - postnatal depression and anxiety - bipolar - borderline personality disorder - suicidality (ideation and bereavement) - grief and loss (related to stillbirth and miscarriage) - supporting a partner with perinatal mental illness - eating disorders - perinatal OCD - mothering as an immigrant - birth trauma - chronic pain - domestic and family violence - alcohol and other drugs - complex trauma - infertility - maternal ambivilancy and maternal rage - relationship breakdowns - isolation (social and geographical) - inpatient mental health unit admissions (both adult and mother baby units) - some chose medication and some didnt - some chose to label and diagnose and some didnt.... .....and we are still here to tell our stories and help others! Our message is very clear. Personal Recovery is entirely possible, if we can get through it - you can too! You are not alone If you are pregnant, or raising young children and your mental health is of a concern to you - we welcome you into our non-clinical, community of understanding and support https://peachtree.org.au/ourteam/

03.01.2022 Yesterday, a couple of things happened to prompt this post. 1. For some weird unknown reason our old 2019 Birth Trauma Awareness Week post started to get traction again with more people commenting and sharing. This is our all time most popular post with now having over 6,000 shares. 2. Prominent writer Clementine Ford is posting an extremely well written insightful and powerful stream of posts about her Lived Experience of birth trauma. ... Birth trauma is something that obviously continues to impact the mental wellbeing of our community in profound ways. Which brings me to point 3: 3. Australasian Birth Trauma Association are doing some wonderful work advocating for change. Our health system and our society can do better in reducing the incidence of birth trauma and increasing postnatal support for those experiencing birth trauma. Treatment by specialist Pelvic floor physiotherapists should be accessible to all. Usually at Peach Tree, we avoid sharing surveys and petitions. But this one is too good and too pertinent to ignore. Please help by signing this petition. And remember, if you have birth trauma, either physical or psychological - YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Come find our Peachy community www.peachtree.org.au https://www.change.org/p/the-hon-greg-hunt-mp-pelvic-health

01.01.2022 It can be lonely becoming a Mother. Particularly so for mothers experiencing perinatal mental health challenges, as a typical symptom is to withdraw and avoid socialising. But motherhood can feel lonely for lots of different reasons: maybe none of your friends are at the baby making stage... your interests change when you become a parent, maybe you dont feel connected to your friends anymore its hard to find the time (and sometimes energy!) to socialise maybe youve tried mothers groups before, but felt judged and shamed for your parenting choices you feel as though you have to "wear a mask" at your mothers group, where you cant be honest about how you are feeling because everyone else appears to be coping so well making new friends is difficult, particularly if you have social anxiety! Peach Tree offers a range of different groups, activities and programs for mothers and fathers who have children aged 0 - 5 years, and who are seeking more support and connection to improve their emotional wellbeing. All of our services are facilitated by our wonderful Lived Experience Peer Workers, who help keep our space safe, non-judgmental, friendly and welcoming. At the same time holding space to be authentic and genuine! 01.01.2022 Today is RU OK day, and were re-visiting this post from Peachy Mum Emma: When I was a new mum, I suffered from anxiety and depression and was in a very bad place emotionally. I was caught up in obsessive, circular thoughts that kept me awake even when my baby slept. I thought I was a total waste of space and truly believed my family would be better off without me. This is a photo of me at that time. The message is: you dont know unless you ask. Today is R U OK Day. Today, and every day, asking that question could save a life, or at least help turn one around. You dont have to have all the answers just get the conversation started and make yourself available to listen. Check out the site for some tips: https://ruok.org.au/how-to-ask
