15.01.2022 We are writing with an update regarding the Peacock Gallery and COVID-19. As an operation of Cumberland City Council, the Peacock Gallery takes the health and wellbeing of our community seriously and prioritise the health and wellbeing of our visitors, artists and staff. The Gallery is currently closed for exhibition changeover, and will reopen with next exhibition Cumberland Art Awards 2020 on Saturday 4 April.... As a precautionary measure, we will suspend all public programs and events until further notice. This includes the Cumberland Art Award 2020 opening and awards ceremony, Creative Connections workshops, Makers Circle, School Holiday Workshops and any other programs. Given the cancellation of Cumberland Art Awards opening and awards ceremony, Cumberland Art Award winners will be announced via Councils website at https://www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/arts. Please note that the measures stated here are operations in effect as of right now. We will continue to monitor the situation as it evolves and adapt our operations as required to maintain the health and wellbeing of our immediate and wider community. 15.01.2022 The African Australian Literature Development Program is a new initiative to support, develop, share and celebrate the richness of the stories of African Australians within the multi-cultural context of Western Sydney. Run by WestWords and the African Australian Advocacy Centre, and supported by the Adès Family Foundation, the program aims, through stories, to create a bridge of understanding and empathy between communities and generations, create a sense of belonging and pri...de. 15.01.2022 Don't forget to submit your artwork proposal for HIDDEN 2020. There are three categories that artists have the chance to submit proposals for including Sculptures, Student and Film. HIDDEN is looking for works that respond to the cemetery and engage with themes of history, culture, remembrance, diversity, love, mourning, spirituality, cycles of life and the passage of time. Proposals are invited from a wide range of artistic approaches, materials and forms, including kinetic ...elements, performance and participatory engagements. HIDDEN is looking for a broad span of works ranging from celebratory, big, bright and colourful through to contemplative, personal, intimate and thought provoking. Cumberland City Council is excited to be partnering with HIDDEN 2020 to provide a Professional Development Award valued at $1,000 (+ $200 for materials) to an artist, to support practice and or project development in our new studio residency program in 2021 at Councils brand-new community arts facility The Granville Centre. 14.01.2022 Residency Program Announced For Artists With Disability Applications are now open for artists with disability in NSW and the ACT to undertake a 6-night residency at the renowned @BundanonTrust estate from 12 - 18 Oct. Up to 5 artists will be selected to empower their creativity and careers by taking part in the 2020 @AccessibleArts and @BundanonTrust Artist-In-Residence Program. Successful applicants will get accommodation and studio space + a bursary to cover per diems. 10.01.2022 In Gallery Two, we have the wonderful work of artist Hayley Megan French in her exhibition Three Houses Down which intimately explores the suburban surrounds of Guildford, including the Guildford pipelines. Writer Felicity Castagna has created an intricate and connected response to Frenchs work in her catalogue essay Notes On Suburbia: How do you think through the collective past of a suburb? Those Guildford pipelines that still carry water across Sydney are a good star...t . . . How do you go deeper, beyond that, how do you acknowledge the stories from before it was a suburb, when Indigenous woman initiated diplomatic talks with white settlers over food supplies and Pemulway led guerrilla attacks against those invaders? We hope you look forward to re-walking the streets of Guildford upon viewing this sensitive work. Three Houses Down is open until 1 August 2020.

09.01.2022 The Peacock Gallery has REOPENED with new COVID19 protocols in place to manage social distancing, contact tracing and hand hygiene! We will be open to the public on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays from 11am - 4pm, so please feel free to drop-in for a visit to view our latest exhibition 'Revealing and Concealing' by artist Ghasan Saaid from 25 May - 27 June 2020. Ghasan's exhibition is 'dedicated to raising awareness in our community about torture, trauma and post tr...aumatic stress disorder . . . it serves as a purpose to contribute in helping to transform emotional wounds of survivors into positivity by remodelling those experiences, in order to recreate reality from the stimuli they experience in their lives'.
