This article looks at what resilience is, why we need it and how we can develop more of it. **What Is Resilience?** Resilience is the ability to adapt when something difficult happens in our lives. It means being to able to bounce back after trauma or a painful experience.... Resilience is about not giving up despite any adversities we encounter. No matter how difficult a situation or task is, you find a way to go around it, solve it, or simply do it. Its that extra oomph so youre able to overcome hurdles and setbacks. **Why Do I Need Resilience?** Resilience helps you by giving you a can-do attitude in life. Youre able to say Yes! to challenges, confident in the knowledge that you can do all things even though youve never tried them. When the going gets tough, you get going. You believe in yourself. You dont give up easily. You approach problems with the confidence that you can solve them. You may bend, but you will never break. Children are extremely resilient. When they fall, they get back up right away. They find ways to entertain themselves. They learn from their mistakes and keep trying. However, over the years a childs resilience can diminish. This is common for most humans especially when there is unresolved childhood trauma that may trigger us as adults. **How Do I Develop Greater Resilience?** Lifestyle changes, such as learning relaxation techniques or learning how to say No can help you develop more resilience. He told me every morning he goes around the office to ask every person how they are that day? If he senses that they are dealing with something personal or emotional, he delegates all calls to be diverted to someone else in the office to give time and space for that person. Now, that is a well tuned CEO who cares about his people to help them thrive. All his employees have been working with him since the beginning and no one resigns. If more CEO's could connect with their people on a heart level then staff retention and productivity would be 100%. Open your heart, be authentic and let people know you genuinely care about them.
