12.01.2022 With great excitement, we introduce the amazing Shriyanka to the team! Hi there, I'm Shriyanka and I love to teach flowy and strong power vinyasas! I come from a background in breathwork, meditation and freediving. When I started practicing yoga in 2011, I began to understand my mind / body / soul connection. Since then, I have endeavoured to learn the art of listening and speaking to my body. I realised my love for being able to work with my mind, instead of against it.... I have been practicing the balance of calling in stillness and silence, and calling in power and energy - both in body and mind. These are things that I am constantly working on and growing with, and yoga has really made this an incredible journey. The practice of yoga shows me how incredibly resilient, strong, and inspiring my own body can be. My aim as a teacher is to empower every one of my students to feel the same. To learn how to listen to your body. How to communicate, mindfully, to their body. To really sink in... into the knowing of how incredibly strong and wonderful their body and mind is. Mainly, my goal as a teacher is for my students to love their bodies and feel peace within them. Get to the studio 6am Monday's to experience her class for yourself. As your standing foot stays strongly rooted to the floor, & the top of your head reaches up toward the ceiling, you will feel energy moving up & down at the same time. Correct form.... * Keep your standing let in place with the foot facing straight ahead. * Ground down through all four corners of your standing foot to help you balance during the pose. 06.01.2022 Twists, what are they good for? Spine mobility and back health Twists rotate the spine and stretch the muscles of the back. This helps to restore and retain the spines natural range of motion. ... Energising In twists you work with the spine and the action of lengthening is to create space between the vertebrae. When theres a lack of space our spine tends to slump or get stuck and our energy levels drop. Aid digestion Twists are commonly known to aid digestion. It is important to realize what that actually means! Twists are great for creating movement in and around our organs (mobility and motility). So in terms of helping our food being moved along.. twists are great. How can we twist safely? Inhale and lengthen the spine first In seated twists, ground through the sitting bones. If you experience rounding in the lower back here, sit up on a block or blankets so you maintain the natural length and curves of the back. Twist from the lower spine up When twisting be aware that different parts of the spine have different range of mobility. The lower part, the lumbar, rotates only around 5 degrees, the thoracic spine rotates approx 35 degrees whereas the cervical spine has the most mobility with around 50 degrees. To avoid the neck doing all the work involve the whole spine by starting the twist from the lower spine working up, with your neck turning last. This might mean your twist looks less twisty than it used to thats fine!
