24.01.2022 Check our this Mum-to-bes AMAZING core breath! You know how we are always banging on about breathing in Pregnancy classes? Well this is the reason why! Your Pelvic Floor & Diaphragm have a working relationship- as you inhale, your diaphragm descends (allowing your lungs to expand with air) your pelvic floor relaxes and descends too! As you exhale, your pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles contract, and draw up. These core muscles help to maintain your Intra-Abdominal Pressure (or IAP for short!). In pregnancy, your IAP is way high, well - you have a whole other person in there too! Towards your third trimester, when we see poorly controlled IAP we can develop a dysfunction diastasis recti - the widening of the gap between your 6 pack muscles! Prevention is key we can help! #exerciseismedicine

22.01.2022 Abdominal Separation AKA DRAM AKA Diastasis Recti is a NORMAL adaptation if your abdominal wall to accomodate your growing baby. Its where the connective tissue (your linea alba) between your abdominal muscles stretches & elongates. Research shows us that 100% of women will have some degree of separation in pregnancy (its gotta go somewhere ) and often this widening is still present for a period of time after birth. This tissue responds to LOAD & EXERCISE! We can help to provide rehabilitation to support resolution of this abdominal wall - come see us whether you are 6 weeks, 6 months, 6 years or 60 years after birth! #exerciseismedicine

22.01.2022 TFL - Tensor Fascia Latae! If you come to see our team with hip pain we will often test to see if you are holding tension in this little muscle group. TFL helps us in single leg work (think lunges, running, stairs) and connects into our ITB - illiotibial band. Poor ITB often gets smashed with foam rolling - and its often not the problem, we can help unravel the mystery of hip & lateral leg pain #exerciseismedicine

15.01.2022 Saturated fat + endo: saturated fat fuels LPS (lipopolysaccaride) a byproduct or endotoxin of gram negative gut bacteria which increases inflammation, worsening... endo symptoms such as fatigue. LPS have also been linked to a range of other conditions including autoimmune diseases and dementia. This doesn't mean that you need to start eating a low fat diet. Fats are an important part of your diet but look for healthy fats as part of a wholefoods, predominantly plant-based diet; including fish and plant based foods like chia, avocado and olive oil. One way to lower your saturated fat intake is by choosing plant based alternatives to butter such as: avocado, olive oil, hummus, tahini and nut butter #endometriosis #lps #womenshealth #nutritionist #inflammation #chronicillness #endometriosisdiet #endodiet #nutritionalmedicine #endobelly #endowarriors #adenomyosis #autoimmunedisease #avocado #saturatedfat #antiinflammatory #chronicfatigue #plantbased #brisbanenutritionist

11.01.2022 It's estimated nearly 50 per cent of girls stop playing sport by the time they're 17, and women have lower rates of participation in sport and physical activity than men. Many worry about being judged on how they look while playing or exercising. Some wonder whether they're good enough, and others, particularly mothers, don't want to be questioned over their priorities (aka mum guilt).... It can be even harder for those who want to participate in wheelchair sports, because they're largely unisex at the junior and recreational/sub-elite levels. How can we help support the women in our lives ti stay active & involved in sport?

According to the research, physical activity among pregnant women who are obese can actually transform the long-term cardiovascular health of the child....
