04.01.2022 How do you tell the difference between a FAKE and a REAL PEARL? On of the easiest and most trusted test is known as the Tooth Test. A Real Pearl, natural or cultured, when rubbing across your teeth will feel gritty. An imitation Pearl will feel smooth.... Why is this so? The surface of a genuine pearl when seen under a microscope looks similar to a finger print. This is caused by the irregular edges of the nacreous layers. Imitation pearls are marketed under many different names so dont be fooled by a good sounding name. Would you like to know more?
