20.01.2022 This week is National Child Protection Week. As an organisation, Ngala is committed to creating and maintaining a child safe organisation, that promotes and pro...tects the safety and well-being of children and young people. We understand that child abuse and neglect is one of Australia’s most significant social problems, with over 32,000 Australian children proven to have been abused throughout 2017-18. The term ‘child abuse’ includes physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, neglect and exposing a child to family violence. As a result of abuse and neglect, past victims are grossly over-represented in the populations of our prisons, as perpetrators of crime and violence, and amongst the economically and socially disadvantaged members of our society. To find out more about National Child Protection Week, including the incredible range of free educational events and webinars that are available visit: https://www.napcan.org.au/official-program-webinars-events/ #playyourpart #ncpw

14.01.2022 Interesting read. Something that resonated with me was the comment about the simple need for outside fresh air. "Realising what elements of your life are essential to you can be useful in understanding what helps you to be resilient."

11.01.2022 Speech Pathology Week 2020 Tip #2 for Communicating with Confidence #SPweek 2. Add language to everything! ... Often we can focus on communication as a means for children to request what they would like. Although this is a very important aspect, there are so many other reasons we communicate and should encourage children to communicate too. We communicate to greet others, express our opinions, disagree, describe, comment, show humor, retell events, identify feelings and ask questions just to name a few! Here one of our Speech Pathologist's Piper is pictured with our playground communication board - which assists our clients to communicate with confidence for a range of reasons when having fun in our LotteryWest Therapy Garden.

04.01.2022 Speech Pathology Week 2020 Tip #1 for Communicating with Confidence #SPweek 1. Provide different ways to communicate ... Not all children are at the stage of using their words, this is why it is important to offer and accept the various other ways of communication. Our Speech Pathologist Zoe is holding some examples of other ways children and adults can communicate. These include a core vocabulary board, Key Word Sign manual and utilising an IPad. Children can also use gestures such as pointing, eye contact and hand leading. It’s important to always support and encourage children in their own unique way to become confident communicators Keep an eye out on our Facebook page to know when our next Speech Pathology Parent Workshop is on
