23.01.2022 And how, I hear you ask, is the Dairy Diva and her twins?........Well.......let me tell you.......Kevin finds mothering rather tiring, both mentally and physically. What, with the feeding of her bebe's ......and ......things.....very tiring indeed...... She sits, a lot, particularly, when we are trying to get all the ewe's into the shed for milking. As everyone races in to take their places at the feed troughs inside for some treats, Kevin sits with her bebe's. It is pa...rticularly challenging when the young ewe's, who have not been in the dairy before, become confused. "Do we tear into the shed with the others? Do we stay, with this matriarch in the paddock? Do we simply race around in circles?........ 09.01.2022 Good morning! A little update from the shop......we are open today and tomorrow 10am to 4pm. 91 Hoddle St Robertson.....

09.01.2022 I write this, second cup of tea in hand, the spring air coming through the open window and lambs playing chasings in the paddock right outside the house.........after a whirlwind 2 weeks, today is the first day of calm.......shearing is always a huge few days on the farm. We fill the yards over and over as our patient shearer picks each ewe from the catching pen and takes their fleece off with long blows, while rolling them calming and confidently through his legs. During t...his time, we also had the #cheeseslices film crew for three days filming for an upcoming episode on #rawmilk cheese. It was fabulous to have @willstudd and @thestuddsiblings on farm ......we are super excited about this! It will be aired next year...... Milk is at it's peak and we have been hard at work making Yarrawa and Blue for you to enjoy on your Christmas table! It's a joy to see the shelves of the maturation room slowly fill..... A little side note ......I was so honoured to be named this week in the final 4 candidates for the Prime Super Agricultural Innovation Awards! No newsletter this week..... 09.01.2022 The last picture this year of the girls with their wool on.......shearing is done and they are free of their winter coats..... We have just returned from a quick trip across the Central West of NSW........ and what struck me most was the massive change in this landscape since the drought and subsequent bush fires of 2019. Our climate, vegetation and ecology across this vast land in Australia is fragile, but........ in the same breath this ancient land never fails to astonis...h me with its capacity for rebirth and renewal. Stunning bright yellow Canola fields in full flower give way to emerald green pastures with bouncing lambs. NSW is alive in all its abundant fertile spring glory. It reminds us that on our farm we need to keep trees, remain understocked and under grazed. 07.01.2022 I had such fun creating this cheese cake for a very lucky birthday girl!

07.01.2022 I got half way to the dairy this morning and went back for a coat......despite the delicate spring blooms on the pear tree outside my kitchen window, the mornings and evenings are still cold. Suitably rugged up, I stood for a moment and watched the lambs in the paddock next to the dairy...... In the early morning light, they are taking great mouthsfull of grass. It's so satisfying to see them big, strong and healthy, no longer in need of their mothers milk. Every day th...e milk in the tank is increasing. This milk, spring milk, makes particularly special cheese. Sweet and generous of flavour, the fresh cheeses are each a little cloud of spring joy! 02.01.2022 486 small family owned dairy farmers closed their farm gates in 2019.......unable to make a profit selling milk to the large processors. That number is the largest annual exodus from the Australian dairy industry in history....... I am deeply troubled by these statistics. But there is a way.......for small dairy farmers to transform up the value chain, take back control of their business. By producing branded products.......... Imagine walking into a shop to buy milk, wherever you are in Australia and knowing which brands are your local dairy farmers.....
