24.01.2022 Racing Set To Resume The UniSA Australian HPV Super Series, the worlds largest HPV racing series, is set to resume in 2020. Unfortunately, Round 5, the Busselton 6hr originally scheduled for the weekend of 15/16 August has been cancelled. However, Round 4, the Adelaide 6hr, to be held at Victoria Park, has now been slated to move to that vacated weekend. For the full story click below.
24.01.2022 Throwback Thursday - Gawler East Primary School Some two decades ago, Gawler East Primary School was working hard to involve its students and community in HPV racing, looking for ongoing improvement. The #84 Stealth car and team is from 2000. The blue car #22 was from a year or two later. The fibre-glass bodies were built by a team connection at Gawler Body Works who constructed a plug from polystyrene foam then a female mould. These bodies were built as a way of protecting t...he students. Headlights were cast into the shape. Square aluminium tube was used for the lower chassis. The central rear roll bar brace is prior to the 10 degree rule being introduced but notice that there are two half way braces. 20 inch wheels were being used as an historically-part-way-step to the universal use of 16 wheels that we now see. Historically Teams had originally started with full size bicycle wheels but as race speeds improved such big wheels could not survive the side loadings created by cornering and race manouvering. The knobbly tyres indicate that the quality Kojak and Greenspeed-Scorcher 16 tyres that we now use were in the future. #AHPVSS See more

09.01.2022 No Change to Vehicle Specifications for 2021 Following consultation with the organisers of the Victorian HPV Grand Prix Series, the Board of the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series has agreed there will be no change to the Vehicle Specifications for the 2021 season. A full six Round 2021 UniSA Australian HPV Super Series is expected to get under way late March, early April, and run through to September next year. With the addition of the Victorian four Round Series, a total of... 10 Events will be held in 2021 under these rules. Maintaining consistency across both Series in terms of Vehicle Specifications provides significant opportunity for Teams to race. Competitors from across Australia can build and design their vehicles with confidence and certainty as they look forward to returning to the track in what will hopefully be a less interrupted season next year, stated UniSA AHPVSS Chief Scrutineer, Rob Spurling. The confirmation of consistent and common Vehicle Specifications means that the work and investment in readying vehicles by Teams for this year will not be wasted. The UniSA Australian HPV Super Series is hoping to still organise up to two Events this year, in August and September, under COVID-19 modified arrangements. See more
09.01.2022 Throwback Thursday - Glen Dix Glen Dix, a name synonymous with the F1 Australian Grand Prix where he waved the chequered flag from 1985 1995 on our own Victoria Park circuit, and again in Melbourne in 1996. Donning his famous self-designed gold jacket and green trousers to show his pride in Australia, he took to the riverside circuit of Sturt Reserve in 2005 to celebrate the winners at the 24hr Australian International Pedal Prix. In fact, in traditional Dix style, he ensured all finishers received the flamboyant celebration upon completion, an effort worthy of his flair and artistry by all. Heres a sample of his outstanding trackside majesty as he greeted trikes across the line at the event finish. Glen Dix, a true gentleman, and great community supporter.

05.01.2022 Thursday Throwback - 2010 Style In 2010 Human Powered Vehicle construction continued to evolve with attention to aerodynamics to reduce drag, and less weight to improve the value of power produced. Coreflute continued to provide low cost body shaping options with ease of assembly and light weight. High hooped exposed roll bars were prominent - an important safety item which continues to be integral in todays design, although now generally set lower as vehciles incoporate lay down rider positions to reduce frontal area. The 2010 trikes were often open again increasing drag with the cockpit catching the air like a parachute and holding the car back. Todays trikes are more enclosed for this reason.
05.01.2022 Throwback Thursday Velofest In 2000 and 2001 HPVs took part in Adelaides Velofest a festival of cycling. All manner of cycles took to the track or special course; mountain bikes, bicycles, BMX, cyclocross, penny farthings and of course HPVs. There were many displays and events, including The Findon Skid Kids. In 2000 it was at Glenelg and in 2001 at Bonython Park, with an HPV race at both. At Glenelg, a special one-off race was held between a bicycle and an HPV. Wayne Hutchinson rode the HPV, just beaten on the line by a full race trim road bike.

04.01.2022 Throwback Thursday - The Le Mans Start History. From its roots as an annual event, the Australian International Pedal Prix, first run in 1985, has evolved into todays multi race Series. The journey has witnessed great development, passion and stories. Join us each Thursday and travel through the annals of 30 plus years of Human Powered Vehicle racing that has become the UniSA Australian HPV Super Series. So to start us off, heres the story of when HPV racing included a Le... Mans style start! The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the worlds oldest active sports car race in endurance racing, held annually since 1923 near the town of Le Mans, France. It is considered one of the most prestigious automobile races in the world. For many years, when the start flag dropped, drivers had to run across the track to their cars which were parked on the other side, climb in, start the car, and drive away to begin the race. The Le Mans style start was incorporated into Round 1 of the AHPVSS for two consecutive years, 2005 and 2006. Riders stood beside their car as Team Managers ran across the track to assist and secure them into their seats. For the full story click on the image below. #AHPVSS #lemans
04.01.2022 The 2021 University of South Australia AHPVSS took a significant step forward today with the announcement of next year's Provisional Calendar With no races able to be held in 2020 due to Coronavirus, greater consideration of spatial control, social distancing and COVID management has been at the forefront of organisers minds in designing the Series.
